This site's version v4.4.1.0 is older than the one I am reviewing v5.1.0.
The new version can be downloaded from the developer's GibHub site:
https://github.com/o7q/MediaDownloader
unfortunately, the 'Visit developer's site' link on this site is broken.
and the prog ver. is not the latest. but believe me you should try the latest
ver.
if you ignore my tip and decide to download ver 4.x from this page then this
will happen:
-Prog checks for yt-dlp.exe & ffmpeg.exe and won't run till both are downloaded
to its folder.
- Prog loads and immediately checks for a newer version and offers to download it
for you. It uses Updater.bat & update.ps1 to download the latest [v5.1.0].
save yourself some steps and go to GitHub directly.
Unfortunately, v5.x insists on re-downloading yt-dlp.exe & ffmpeg.exe to its bin
folder!! but after that it loads v5.x.
Pros
----
- GUI is better than v4.x
- Dark theme
- Fast download [mp4(fast)]
- Auto name
- Download queue & Job management
- output folder selection, and open output folder
- Dowloaded media modifications [Res, FPS, Vbr, Abr, & Trim media]
- Download history
- Add yt-dlp & FFmpeg custom arguments
- Console preview [log]
- config files .json & .txt, and reset config button
Cons
----
- GUI, a bit crammed, can still be improved
- URL input box does not clear, or use right-click paste
or clipboard paste
- Creates a lot of folders [some useless]
- Keeps multiple copies of yt-dlp.exe & ffmpeg.exe
in multiple folders [bin, resist, & temp.
- Keeps multiple copies of downloaded media files
in multiple folders in [temp, subfolders]. this is bad
if you download large files.
I am still testing the prog, I haven't figured out how
to to do few things like add jobs to a queue, clear the
console window, etc.
Summary, Prog is worth a try [from GitHub], but needs
few changes to become the perfect Downloader. |
