I've used Studio video editing Products for a couple of years now (Studio DV, Studio 7, and now S8). In my opinion, they cannot be matched for utility versus cost. However, my major complaint is that the ability for the casual user to have success with the software directly out of the box is almost nil. Or, if they have initial success, they will eventually have problems. This is not at all apparent from the Hype on the box or at Pinnacle's web presentation.
Then why am I somewhat of a fan? I have found that the peer-to-peer support is excellent. There is almost a cult-like following of us who enjoy using the software, going to the webboard (forum) if difficulties are encountered, and getting/providing help.
HOwever, as I said, this product is not for the casual PC user who expects faultless performance out of the box.
The major problems seem to occur with users with minimal system performance (P2 or lower, low RAM, small fragmented drives, etc.) However, even mega-systems will sometimes need tweaking to get the software to operate flawlessly.
Anyway, there's my advice. Excellent software if you have low expectations of first-try operability and plan to work with the thousands of other successful users on the webboard. |
