VLC is a very good media player, lots of functionality buried deep in the settings and with a little research many of the hidden features can be discovered. If you've ever seen the various plagues that are apparent in the videos from some download sites... the movie theatre picture frame, reversed (mirrored) playback, too slow or too fast playback, VLC can deal with these issues. The filters are somewhat complicated to figure out but once you do you'll appreciate em all the more.
I also like the ability to make VLC portable on Windows... download the .zip or .7z version, extract contents, and BEFORE launching VLC for the first time make sure to create a portable folder in VLC's root folder. All of VLC's settings will be stored in this folder, vlcrc, vlc-qt.ini, artwork from streamed videos, etc.
VLC isn't perfect but it's a fine piece of software and free for our benefit. Check it out. |
