Just dicovered that VidCutter now has a Smart Render" feature. Excellent...
I really like the nice and easy to use GUI, just the right balance between ease of use and power. Please resist the temptation to make a full fleged NLE video editor from it.
One problem I found is that it does not handle MKV files with AVC video and AAC audio very well:
The software uses FFmpeg, and this is probably the reason for this problem. The resulting file from a standard MKV source made by the latest MKVMerge (progressive 25fps CFR, 704x396, encoded with the latest X264) has horizontal motion judder while the source had smooth movement. Analyzing the result showed that the file is now 25 fps VFR instead of CFR, and it has non-monotonous timestamps.
What solved the issue for me was to only use it with MP4 files. If the needed container is MKV, remuxing MKV to MP4 and vice versa is just a matter of seconds with FFmpeg...
