Using Avid Studio for AVCHD editing I moved to Pinnacle 16, skip version 17 and now installed version 18.
The overall impresion is very bad - unstable, crashing or doing secret things (GUI is dead, but the background process runs at 88% CPU on all 8 cores). After last update (18.0.2) I'm not able to render any kind of movie(AVCHD 1080p or MPEG-2 for DVD). After a short time (between 30 seconds to 2 minutes) of the movie rendering the GUI is dead and the background process runs for hours without any result.
Similar behaviour was typical for early version of Avid Studio while rendering AVCHD files.
I using INTEL i7 at 3.4 GHz, 16 GB RAM and two Samsung SSD's with 1 TB - so processing power is available. The problem seems to be Pinnacle Studio 18 (64 bit, Ultimate version).
My recommendation - look for Vegas. The knowledge transfer from Avid to Pinnacle to Corel was not good! |
