MKVBatch

NO MORE UPDATES?
MKVBatch is basically a front-end for the excellent MKVMerge program. MKVBatch will scan the Video Path folder for acceptable video files, then run the command line version of MediaInfo to get the video's information. Using this information, MKVBatch will construct a batch file with the relevant info and your chosen functions and then run it on each of the recognised video files which have been found. Requires MKVToolnix to be installed.

Note: This is an updated version of my original instructions, including solutions from other users, a few things I forgot to clarify previously, and general improvements for better clarity.

Please note that this guide was specifically tested for v1.3.2. I don't know if newer versions have fixed some or all of these bugs since I haven't had the time to test them, but if you are using a newer version and still running into problems, this guide should still be useful to you.

Streamlined Step-by-Step Guide to Getting MKVBatch Working Properly
================================================================================

If you are experiencing crashes, "Not Responding" hangs, or execution errors, follow these exact steps to get the program working:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Install MKVBatch. (If you previously tried to open it and got errors, completely uninstall it, restart your PC, and reinstall it clean before moving to Step 2).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. Download and install UniSuiteFree.exe from this archived link:
https://web.archive.org/web/20191102063959/http://www.cyberactivex.com/download/UniSuiteFree.exe

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. Go to the MKVBatch installation directory (C:\Program Files (x86)\MKVBatch), locate the file named MSCOMCTL.OCX, and copy it into your Windows system directory:
• For 64-bit Windows: Copy it to C:\Windows\SysWOW64\
• For 32-bit Windows: Copy it to C:\Windows\System32\

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4. Register the OCX file using an administrator command prompt:
• Open CMD or PowerShell as Administrator (Search "CMD" in Start Menu, right-click, select "Run as Administrator").

• For 64-bit Windows, type the following two commands (press Enter after each):
cd C:\Windows\SysWOW64
regsvr32 mscomctl.ocx

• For 32-bit Windows, type the following two commands (press Enter after each):
cd C:\Windows\System32
regsvr32 mscomctl.ocx

• You should see a success message confirming the component was registered.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5. Download MKVToolNix version 8.9.0.0 (up to version 19.0.0 maximum works, but version 20.0.0 and newer will break the app).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6. Download ffmpeg to get the ffprobe.exe file.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7. CRITICAL STEP: Extract both MKVToolNix and ffmpeg into root directories that contain NO SPACES in the folder names. The app will freeze or do nothing if there are spaces in the path.
• Good: C:\MKVToolNix\ and C:\ffmpeg\
• Bad: C:\Program Files\MKVToolNix\ or C:\My Tools\ffmpeg\

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
8. Open MKVBatch, go to Settings -> Set Executable Paths, and use the built-in browser to point explicitly to:
• C:\MKVToolNix\mkvmerge.exe (or wherever mkvmerge.exe is located inside your extracted MKVToolNix folder)
• C:\ffmpeg\bin\ffprobe.exe (or wherever ffprobe.exe is located inside your extracted ffmpeg folder)

Do not use drag-and-drop to set these paths, as it can cause the UI to crash.

Program is a GUI.

All those can be also done with: https://github.com/Serede/mkvtoolnix-batch
and does not require any installation nor portable. I run it in Windows 10/11.

No one has written a review since that last update (2022-Nov), so I am. Using MKVBatch 2.5.5 with
* MKVToolNix GUI version: 87.0
* mkvmerge version: 87.0

It worked as-is, not like previous reviews said. I did encounter one bug, though.

I replaced the audio in a bunch a MKV files, but the "Default" setting did not work. It did not matter if I set the "Forced" or not. Here is the options file that was created for each audio file:

Language=English (eng)
Default=yes
Forced=yes

The resulting MKV files have "Default" set as "No".

Information using MediaInfo:
Language : English
Service kind : Complete Main
Default : No
Forced : Yes

I'm agreeing with everyone that claims installing and trying to get this software to operate is a waste of time. I could get the software to operate only after "running as administrator" and placing both mkvmerge.exe and ffprobe.exe in the same folder as MKVBatch was in. The program would run but immediately (within a few seconds) go into "Not Responding" condition and then close itself.
Don't bother. Guess I'll continue to use MKVToolNix program on individual files (I've used mkvtoolnix-batch.bat program successfully but don't know the proper script to add an audio file that has been converted to another format).

Installing a bunch of side programs in order to be able to start this program and finding out that all these efforts result in errors once it finally starts...

Nah, not worth your time. it's crap...
