  1. Tools required: DvdComposer 1.0.0

DvdComposer is an advanced DVD authoring application targeted at those who have outgrown wizard-based DVD authoring.

In order to make the transition easy, DvdComposer comes with its own project wizard (similar to those in other wizard based software) that will allow you to get started quickly.

You can start by modifying the wizard generated project, and slowly learn more about the individual advanced features offered by the software.

Part 1 of this guide details the creation of a project in DvdComposer using its project wizard. Part 2 will continue with the basics of using DvdComposer without the wizard.

    Using the project wizard
    1. Launch DvdComposer, and click on the Wizard button on its toolbar:

    2. The project wizard launches. The first screen will prompt you to check whether you are appending to the existing project, or overwriting it. Since we're working on a new project, simply select "Overwrite Existing Project".

    3. The second screen is where you import all your video files. Click on the ADD button to add your video clips (you can add multiple videos at one go). A point to note here is that DvdComposer creates a "Multi-VTS" DVD. As such, you can import different aspect ratio video clips or video clips with different audio types in this screen:

At the bottom of the above screen, you can instruct DvdComposer to auto-add chapter points to your video clips. These chapter points will show up in the chapter menu screen that you'll configure later. If you do not wish to have chapters, you can simply type "1" for "Number of Chapters".

    4. The next screen configures the title menu. This is the main menu that shows all the video clips you've added. You can choose not to use this menu if you want, by unchecking "Enable Menu". Also, you can opt whether you want to have motion menu, by checking/unchecking "Animate Menu".

If you're customizing the menu with your own audio files, do note that the audio file you set here has to be of the SAME TYPE (you cannot mix say AC3 and MPA) as the one you set in the next chapter menu screen.

If you're customizing the menu with your own background, you can use both image stills or MPEG video files for the background. DvdComposer will blend your video background together with the video buttons, if you have "Animate Menu" selected.

    5. In the next screen, you configure the Chapter Menu. You can opt not to use the chapter menu, by unchecking "Enable Menu". All the other settings are similar to the one for Title Menu:

    6. OK, you're ready to create your project. To have DvdComposer build your DVD immediately, select "Generate Project and Start Building DVD". The resulting VIDEO_TS folder will be created in the Output Folder that you've specified. Alternatively, if you wish to go through the project generated files and modify further, you can select "Generate Project Only":

That's it! DvdComposer can be very easy if you just want a quick wizard generated DVD. However, you will only unleash its flexibility and power if you use its other features. The next part of this tutorial will explore the basics of those other features.

To me, the single most important piece of this great app.
If it has the flexibility of DLP (can't wait for part 2!), I may be a convert
