Most horrible product been used. Now It burn
all kinds 8x or 16x DVD disks at 1X or 2X speed.
Tried all versions of firmware upgrade and it's no
use. Will NEVER buy a plextor!!!

This writer's performance really is superb, apart from looking very stylish, too.

Having had a lot of problems with playback on standalone DVD players, I decided to purchase this drive and have not had one single coaster or playback problem in any player I've tested. You can't really ask for more, can you?

I'm using quality AA+ Ritek DVD-R's. I've found it really doesn't pay to use cheap media, although the Plex seems to cope well with cheap stuff, too !

One very happy Plextor customer.

this Plextor PX-708UF is worth it.. burned almost a 75 dvd-/+r as of now... still no coasters encountered.. just recently upgraded my firmware to 1.06. tried the cheapest dvd-r media for $13 50pcs already consumed the half of it.. and still no coaster.. although its a bit pricey.. but you get both firewire and usb2.0 ports... you can use it with 2 computers using the port selection switch, the other one is connected via usb2.0 and the other one using firewire.. i prefer using my drive with firewire.. :)

Have had this burner for about three weeks now and have burned about 40 dvd movies, have not had one single coaster. Using dvd decrypter, dvd shrink, and Nero for dvd movies. Also comes with stand so you can store it vertically (very nice if you have mutliple drives :)

I can't say enough about this burner as it is pricey, but burns fast and perfect!!!! I had an external tdk 4x ext. 440n burner and returned that as I only burned two watchable movies out of a stack of ten with the same software!

Simply the best! I cannot get a coaster even if I'm trying :)
Using Nero 6 Ultra edition, DVD Shrink, DVD X Copy and works excellent.
Tried Khypermedia, Memorex media... DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW and all of them work great.
I did about 30 DVD's with multi Xbox games using ISO Craxtion and no problem to play them in moded Xbox.
Also tried CD-R media to burn some audio, iso's and data in combination with Nero and also everything was perfect.
No problem to download files and browse internet (DSL), do a streaming (using Relax 0.74) to Xbox at the same time when plextor burns DVD. My machine is PIII/733 MHz, 512 MB RAM.

ok once again the drive is the best...Roxio basic that is included with drive is poo poo!!!. I got Roxio plat (full retail just to test of coarse) from web and it is far superior (encoding) than the basic that is included with burner. I burned a dvd now with smooth video and good picture.. the encoder that comes with basic makes a large video look real blocky so poo poo to Plextor for not giving us a better program with our lovely drive and poo poo to roxio for releasing a version that will try to force one to pay alot to get what they should of got in first place..

Great drive!!! the basic roxio software could be better but better dvd authoring software can be easily had on the internet...try Tmpgenc software it is pretty good ..I burned quite a few dvds and not one coaster... I would suggest the internal or external version of this drive..good job plextor...and poo poo to Roxio!!!

Superb DVD burner. Decided on this model after narrowing the field down to the Sony DRX500ULX, Plextor PX-708UF and the Pioneer DVR-S606. The deciding factor for me was Plextor's long-standing reliability, compatibility and support for their products. I have been a long-standing supporter of Plextor's products and will continue to be one in the future. The only negative thing I can say about the company is that their products are a little pricey, but you get what you pay for. If you want commercial grade products that will likely outlast your current computer for a couple dollars more, then go with a Plextor you will not be disappointed.
