| It seems that there are 2 w58e's, single and dual. This dual layer one, does that refer to WRITE dual? How do I determine if mine is dual without spending $40 for a 3pack of Dual blanks? I saw somewhere on the internet an indication that w58e-003 or -004 may be dual, mine is a -044? It came with my Dell Dimension 2400, and I've since updated the firmware to D.OJ, don't recall what the previous firmware version was, and now I read this warning about the Dell D.OJ firmware version being single layer only. | I'm very happy with this drive: It is quiet, good build quality (sealed opening, heavy), fast tray, fast burning. Reliable. Good-looking if you prefer a clean front without toy volume control. Supported by Nero. The list of accepted 8x media is reasonably long. So far it has burned every media thrown at it ... and that means mostly el-cheapo media in my case: imation, benq/daxon etc. Unlike my previous NEC1100A, which was a real diva and developed a habit of read erros, this drive hasn't given me a single problem. It just burns and doesn't upset me :) Negative points: 1. supports DVD+R but not DVD-R (if you care). 2. No firmware update in the last six months 3. Speed control tools like CD Bremse do not seem to recognize the drive. Note: there are two versions of the DV-W58E. I have the newer dual layer version with firmware 2.0B (May 2004).
