Well, I was gonna buy a new one if this didn't work anyway, so I figured what the hell...

Jeffrey S. Worley was kind enough to explain how he had hacked his Zenith. I noticed the all the Zenith hacks described here seemed to indicate a sort of menu screen with fields to be changed. I figured that the settings might be the same reguardless of how U get to them amd Mr. Worley was also compleat enough in his description of the results (as were most all the posts). His hack works just fine on my: US model DVB216

Notes:

Locate all keys mentioned in the below hack before attempting to execute it. I didn't. It made for an uncomfortable time because I was attempting to hack a player not documented. If you take too long between keypresses or 'lose track' of where you are in the hack, power off the device, power on, and proceeed from the beginning. I did this several times and still succeeded. God protects fools and drunks.

This hack enables VCD playback on the Zenith 2350
Power on the player with no disk in the drive
Press "PAUSE" on the remote
Enter "1472" on the remote
Press the UP arrow three times
Press "PROGRAM", "5", "PROGRAM", "5" (the characters 04 EE should now be displayed)
Press "ENTER" (the display should flash briefly)
Press "RETURN"
Power the player off and then back on
Play a VCD! (I had to press Play on the remote to make the disc play). Don't know if that is normal or not. I don't own a DVD player. I bought this one for a friend of mine as a gift).

Easy as cake (whatever the hell that means:), i did it the first time and stuck in a VCD, bam, success

The region hack for the LG 5083 works perfect on this unit, and probably any other zenith model.

This is the multiregion Hack for the Zenith DVD Players. (should work on most models, tested on DVB216)

Follow this instructions exactly:

Step 1

Download the file lg5000.zip by clicking on the link:

http://www.area450.co.uk/images/LG5000.zip

Step 2

Unzip the file lg5000.zip. It will create a directory folder called RMTM0000.

Step 3

You need a CD Writer to write a new disk with the files you've just unziped (RMTM0000 folder).

Step 4

You need a CD burning software (like Easy CD Creator, Nero, CD Clone, HP RecordNow, etc....) to make a Data disc.

Step 5

I've read not to use a 700mb capacity CD-R, but mine worked just fine! For information, I used a Memorex CD-R 700MB 24x. This speed (24x) I think is the key to success, not the capacity or size of the CD-R.

Step 6

Using the CD burning software, create a Data disc and add the directory folder RMTM0000. That's all you need !
*** When burning the disc do not use DirectCD ***

Step 7

Switch "On" your DVD player and TV and insert the newly burned disc. When prompted select "0" for multiregion and then ENTER. The unit will eject the disc and turn off by itself when you close the door. Turn it back on and your set!
Good Luck!

This hack for some of the other Zeniths worked well on my DVB216 to enable SVCD. I have been using VCD hack since I purchased this last year and was disappointed that SVCD was not supported. I could not get the VCD header trick to sync properly. It would play, but skip frames really bad. So I worked on the DVD side to try and get SVCD support working. I used this post from Shagey to get mine working like a charm.

VCD (tested) and Macrovision(not tested)hacks

1) Power up with NO cd in the drive
2) Press PAUSE
3) Press 1472
4) At the EEPROM screen write down the code for backup (Mine was 55 53 00 45 14 55 64 FF)

**Use the left and right arrows on the remote to move
**Press the number keys on the remote for number entry
**Press and hold numbers 1 thru 6 for letter entry

5a)If you want to enable VCD AND disable Macrovision:
Enter: 55 53 00 47 14 55 FE FF
OR: 55 53 00 46 14 55 FE FF

5b)If you want to enable VCD without messing with Macrovision:
Enter: 55 53 00 47 14 55 64 FF
OR: 55 53 00 46 14 55 64 FF

6) Press PAUSE to exit the EEPROM screen
7) Press POWER to turn the unit off
8) Press POWER to turn the unit on
9) Insert VCD disk

I just wanted to let people know that the Region Free hack works for the DVB213C as well. Burned a CD(700MB, 16X) and it works like a charm!!!!

The VCD hack by Linuxphre@k (7-20-03) worked great on my DVB216 to enable playing a SVCD disk, using the code in his 5(a) step. The instructions could be clearer in that users should know that the 2 pairs of numbers above the 8 pairs of EEPROM code represent: 1st pair= which of 8 pairs below, and 2nd pair=the code itself. Use up/down remote keys to select which of 8 pairs to change, then use the remote number pad to input a replacement code. I also noticed that playing a SVCD changes some "Setup" parameters in the player which I needed to change back when playing a conventional DVD. Good Luck

This is added info. to my above note: When I change the EEPROM setting as per the VCD/Macrovision hack, it disables the player's ability to decode DTS 5.1 on a regular DVD, such as Pearl Harbor. It instead plays a stereo signal. I therefore changed the EEPROM code back to the original (fortunately I wrote it down). I'd rather play DTS 5.1 sound on DVD's than watch a inferior video on a (S)VCD.
