IFME(Internet Friendly Media Encoder) encodes, remuxes and repackages video and audio. It handles subtitles and font attachments, merges multiple streams into a single file, drops the streams you do not want, and can pull subtitles straight out of another video without extracting them first. AviSynth scripts are supported for advanced processing. What makes it different is that the encoders are not baked in.

Version 8.7.0 (Mezame no Uta)
-----------------------------
[Fixed] Pressing Stop then Start again did nothing, the encoding worker was disposed by Stop and could never be reused. Start now works after a Stop.
[Fixed] Stop no longer aborts the worker thread mid-write. Encoding unwinds cleanly between stages and the running encoder process is terminated properly.
[Fixed] Encoding progress percentage and ETA showed garbage when the encoder reported an unparseable frame count, a failed parse used to reset the total frame count to zero and divide by it.
[Fixed] Progress line now omits the percentage and ETA instead of showing nonsense when the total frame count is genuinely unknown (multi-pass, some sources).
[Fixed] Pressing Stop while an encoder process was starting could crash with a collection modified error.
[Fixed] AVX / AVX2 CPU check never actually stopped the program, an unsupported CPU carried straight on into startup.
[Fixed] Startup continued past the "no encoder available" dialog instead of closing.
[Fixed] Splash screen fade read and wrote window opacity from a background thread, racing its own updates.
[Fixed] Bundled ffmpeg and MP4Box lookup no longer depends on the process working directory, which a file dialog could move.
[Fixed] Importing a batch of files silently skipped the remainder if the progress dialog was closed. A file that fails to read is now logged and the import continues.
[Update] Selecting a queue item is now instant. Each selection used to start a thread that slept 50 ms before updating the panel, which also let rapid clicking display the wrong item's settings.
[Update] Encoder log output is batched and flushed on a timer instead of one blocking marshalled call per line, so a chatty encoder no longer stalls the interface. Console is capped at 5000 lines.
[Update] Window resizing is roughly 22% cheaper, banner artwork is decoded once and cached instead of being reloaded and rescaled on every resize event.
[Update] File list columns now scale with DPI and shrink as well as grow, previously they only grew beyond a hardcoded 1000 pixel width.
[Update] Importing files now runs media probing off the interface thread for real, previously the work was marshalled straight back onto it.
[Update] Removed the fixed 1.5 second wait after every encoded file and the 0.5 second wait before muxing. IFME now waits for the encoder to actually release the file, which is both correct and faster on large batches.
[Update] Tab pre-loading no longer sleeps 100 ms per tab at startup.
[Update] Encoding engine no longer references the interface at all, it reports through a small interface instead. Groundwork for headless and command line operation.
[Update] Timers, cached artwork and the splash image are now disposed on close.
[Update] Removed BackgroundWorker2, its Thread.Abort based cancellation is unsupported on modern .NET and blocked any future runtime upgrade.
[Update] Reworded the English (en-US) interface text throughout: plainer wording, consistent terminology, and clearer explanations of what each option actually does. Deinterlace method names now describe their real effect on frame rate.
[Update] Removed duplicate Alt-key shortcuts on the Video and Audio tabs, where Alt+R, Alt+F, Alt+O and Alt+D each triggered several controls.
[Update] (Release/Windows) FFmpeg git-2026-07-12-a09be9b
[Update] (Release/Windows) SVT-AV1 4.2.0-73-gfb0ed7e59
[Update] (Release/Windows) rigaya QSVEnc 8.26
[Update] (Release/Windows) rigaya NVEnc 9.31
[Update] (Release/Windows) vvenc 1.15.0-dev

Encoders are plugins
Every encoder is described by a JSON manifest in the Plugins folder. IFME discovers them at startup, so you can update x265, swap in a build tuned for your own CPU, or add an encoder IFME has never heard of — without waiting for a new IFME release and without recompiling anything.

"Author": { "Developer": "MultiCoreWare", "URL": "http://msystem.waw.pl/x265/" },
"Video": { /* presets, tunes, rate-control modes, CLI arguments */ }
}
On startup IFME checks each plugin against your machine, skips ones built for the wrong architecture, and can test-run each encoder so a broken binary is caught before you rely on it.

Makes great quality videos at half the size of AVC h.264 (when using HEVC h.265), however there is definately a bug with the subtitle option... I tried several times but it does not really incorporate subtitles, not even when you select to hard burn the subtitles to the image...

Review by JackAstermind on Oct 15, 2018 Version: 7.7 OS: Windows 7 64-bit Ease of use: 9/10 Functionality: 8/10 Value for money: 10/10 Overall: 8/10

Was looking for something straight up to re-convert a problem x265 10bit found this figured I would give the portable build a try, after figuring it all out without seeking a help page anywhere I think I got it down. The outcome of the video was flawless and much smaller than the original. I love that it is super simple to do a 10bit encode.a few more builds to fine tune a couple of things and this will be my go-to encoder beating out vidcoder.

Not so friendly, very limited audio cap, no many x265 GUIs around as well, thus look promising.
Doesnt work natively on XP sp3, but works with a renamed x265 1.8+205-d94f6c2b45f8

x265 keeps all its promises
Size 49% of the heavy compressed x264 with CRF 28, quality a bit lower, smoothing a bit too heavy.
Guess that will be ok at 55-60% of the size
Got half the speed of x264 medium with x265 faster.

Review by movmasty on Jan 9, 2016 Version: 5.1.0.0 OS: WinXP Ease of use: 5/10 Functionality: 4/10 Value for money: 7/10 Overall: 5/10

I've been using IFME since version 3.1 and it really did have a shaky start with videos coming out unusable in some cases, but now that's all changed!

The UI has been improved with this latest version and is much easier to use, some fantastic preset to get started if you're not sure or are new to video encoding with x265 & it is now stable enough that it can be used to encode all of your videos (I'm re-coding all of my Anime right now!).

If you're looking for a solid x265 encoder that will do what you want, look no further as this is the encoder for you.
