After trying dvdSanta and producing DVD files that were unusable (certain chapters just didn't play), I tried DVD Flick. DVD Flick's interface is simple. It doesn't try to do everything in the book. You create a "project", set your preferences, add your AVI, ASF, FLV, MPG, QT (MOV), RM, VOB, or WMV files, set some preferences per file added (optional), then click "Create DVD".
Seems to run quite well. I like the fact that the software indicates how much of your DVD you are filling. dvdSanta fails to do this... this could be the source of some of the problems I've experienced.
There is a short and easy-to-follow guide included. Nice touch. I'd have to say this software is better than any of the commercial variants I've tried.
Here are some possible improvements:
1 - Would be nice to let user decide if an ISO should be produced or whether to only produce the DVD folders.
2 - Would be nice to allow user to decide where to place the log and debug files.
3 - Would be nice to have a "replace title" button to swap out titles instead of having to "remove title" then "add title".
4 - Would be nice if the project file were a simple XML doc which could be created externally and read by DVD Flick. It would be quicker for me to create several DVDs by copying a template project file, edit the names of the titles (AVI files), then save the XML file and run the projects sequencially through DVD Flick. Set it and forget it.
5 - This may just be my thing, but I hate the browse for folder dialog in any application. I like the browse for file dialog. |
