Amplifying on original post, have seen enough reports of compatibility prob caused by mainconcept encoder files I wanted to include a couple of links so you can judge for yourself.

Search the SOFO site Vegas Video forum for other complaints. In personal experience, causes a direct conflict with Ligos codec as installed by Roxio, Magix, older Ulead. Conflicts with same named Mainconcept files installed with Adobe Prem. All caused mpg2 open/play prob in other prog as well as windows.
Still think Vegas is Great, but realistically wanted to warn potential users so it doesn't get a bad rep... If these compatibility prob. are a potential prob for you, do the trial first, & back up your registry before install! I've read several reports of folks having to reinstall windows (particularly XP) in order to get things back to normal - even after uninstalling Vegas.
Also please check the SOFO site for capture compatibility. The capture app included as part of Vegas is designed for DV capture over firewire, & some firewire cards will not work. While analog capture is possible it's not recomended by SOFO techs. You can't select a codec so capture is uncompressed. With 2 or 4 gig file splitting not available either, IMO analog capture is unuseable.
