I run a dual-boot system with XP Home in one partition and 98SE in the other. Recently, I installed an NEC 3550A DVD/CD burner. Since my Nero version was bundled with my last burner, it wouldn't recognize the new burner. And while I do ISO burns of DVDs with DVDdecrypter, I only needed CD burning capability.
On the 98SE partition, DeepBurner Free worked flawlessly. However, on the XP partition, a number of weird anomalies surfaced. For example, it would sometimes merge tracks ... burning two tracks as one (one track following another) instead of as two separate tracks. And sometimes, following a burn, it would shut itself AND Windows down. On one CD with 77 minutes of programming, it created a CD that cut off the last part of the last track and showed it as having 90 minutes of programming.
In short, I consider it a completely reliable tool in my 98SE partition and a completely unreliable tool in my XP partition. However, in fairness, I have no idea whether these anomalies are caused by the software or if my new hardware (or the XP OS) have something to do with them. But, until further notice, I'll be using it exclusively in my 98SE partition. |
