I got nero 5.5.10.56 installed in one PC and nero 6.3.1.15 installed in the other.
I use this application mostly for burning activities and I do not think the upgrade was necessary. For Video DVD I prefer to use TMPGEnc DVD author writing tool. For DVD+RW media just install InCD 4 and this will still work on top of Nero 5.5. For data Nero 5.5 is just fine.
I would think that the only real reason for upgrading would be the support of double layer burners.
