Did some tests today using H264 at bitrates of 2000kbps in this Ssvc program and compared its output with 2 pass same size in a couple of others e.g Handbrake, aviDemux, mpegui etc. To my eyes no quality differences. Proves to me that 1 pass abr at higher bitrates shows no visible subjective quality loss compared to 2 pass. Ssvc has some nice presets and a few editing options. You can deinterlace too, if needs be. Really useful software with a sleek GUI. Kudos to the folks in Spain who made this. Thanks guys.
Obviously there would be a better psnr in 2 pass and maybe a 1 to 5% or more increase in quality and purists would know this. I prefer crf myself but the size is unpredictable. The output of Ssvc was excellent at its slow/best setting and it worked in my old XP laptop too. Also it allowed me to recode some H265 videos which were choking up my player. One for the video toolbox, especially since FFMEG builds for Windows are shutting down, unless somebody takes the mantle! |
