Hi,
"Avidemux" is no less than excellent (if not among the very best — of its "kind" if you want), since it's EASY, PORTABLE and AUTONOMOUS, plus... FREE.
Plus, important points: able to and even set by default to stream copy (good!)
= (simple reminder to beginners) no recoding => no quality loss + very fast, although lossy compressed videos can only be cut on their key ("intra", labelled "I" by "Avidemux") frames, in stream "Copy" mode / double triangle blue buttons will find them key frames for you;
AND providing a no-more-than-what-you-need set of commands or menus / buttons. All that in one Win. 10 (64 & 32-bit) + XP + Linux + Macintosh compatible tool, being rather unique.
Some free editors sure are easy but may lack portability or any other of those qualities — when they don't come bundled with idiotware, while "Avidemux" comes with NO spy/malware whatsoever.
I've tested quite a few... tons of editors, including excellent, e.g. "VirtualDub", "Sony Vegas", etc., of course. "VirtualDub" really lacks an option to save to more containers than ".avi" (".mp4" possible but way too complicated to set).
And "Avidemux" lacks the ability to crossfade (so does "VirtualDub"); I mean, withOUT the help of "AviSynth", but sure gets: TO-THE-POINT faster than anything else, i.e. at once: —— edit... EASY!
OK, it's been "quite" buggy, thus forcing me to switch to e.g. its 2.5.6 version when 2.6.x versions would crash or display their delightful "Video saved but too short" warning. Nevertheless, as already posted here, 2.7.0 or 2.7.x is much more stable.
A tool that lets you and helps you concentrate on video instead of on its (complex) commands, is no less than essential. Obvious if not boring as can be, such a remark is intended as a reminder to (so) MANY a programmer!..
