Thanks for your insight Moralez but actually now is
the other way, the subs I feed to the program were ansi,
when changed to utf-8, they came right.

So i think the author should make it more explicit which
text formats the program support.

Going to try Subtitle Edit.

Thanks anyhow for taking time to answer.

I forgot to mention in my previous post since I haven't used this program for quite a while and only used version 3.5. IIRC Txt2VobSub only really, really likes ANSI formatted text. If your SRT file is in UTF-8 format you will get the square boxes you mentioned. When I had a UTF-8 SRT file I would open it up in notepad, change the name of the file slightly and then change the encoding to ANSI. This alone will not convert your special characters correctly. I would then open the new file up in MS Word and do a spell check. This will catch the incorrectly converted characters. I would also open up the old file in notepad. Also open up Windows Character Map and set the Character set: to DOS: United States. When Word caught a bad character I would look in the old file to what see it was supposed be then find it in Character Map, select it and replace the bad character in Word with the selected character. Tedious I know. That is why I now use SubtitleEdit.

I found using SubtitleEdit to be a better creator of SUB/IDX subtitles. It does not have the limitations Txt2VobSub has. It will process the characters you mentioned plus it will do more than two lines.

Generally speaking works flawlesly, but there some errors
with spanish special caracters, accented words, like á or é are figure as squares.

This program works like a charm.
Very easy to use and it will create an average sub/idx file in less than 2 minutes.
You can select font, color and position of your subtitle.
It can be used in order to watch on your standalone divx player.
Thanks to the author.
