Aud-X |
Aud-X is the name of very efficient mp3 5.1 (surround) sound encoder and decoder. For a long time people converted DVDs to Divx/Xvid with mp3 stereo sound. The main Aud-X project task was to bring to people an easy technology for encoding Divx/Xvid movies with 5.1 sound the same way they used to do it with the simple mp3 stereo encoders.

[1.24] - MP3 48 kHz problems fixed Hide changelog [1.24] - PseudoSurround artifacts for noisy signals eliminated [1.23] - Memory leakage problems of the Virtual Surround (VS) module fixed [1.23] - AC3 5.1 decoding and conversion to the VS stereo problems fixed [1.23] - Code optimizations of the VS module [1.23] - DolbyProLogicII decoder module separation filter quality adjustments [1.23] - Code optimizations of the PseudoSurround module Aud-X 1.22 is available. All changes since 1.0 release: [1.22] - Sound quality improvements of the DolbyProLogicII decoder [1.22] - New Virtual Surround (VS) DSP algorithm which allows for recreating surround panorama on stereo headphones. The algorithm is based on modified HRTF (Head Related Transform Function) filters with linear error correction adjustements. In addition, it consists of DSP routines emulating acoustic wave propagation in a midium size room (20 square meters) equipped with 5.1 speakers set. The VS algorithm can be configured to emulate surround panorama based on Aud-X sounds, but also on AC3 5.1, or can be applied to any other 5.1 source when the DirectShow filter is configured as a postprocessing unit. [1.21] - Compatibility bugs related to Windows Media Player Classic fixed. [1.21] - Compatibility bugs related to Nero Recode fixed. [1.21] - Compatibility bugs related too Ogg Vorbis DirectShow filter fixed. [1.21] - Other minor DirectShow related problems fixed. [1.2] - DolbyProLogicII DSP decoder. This is the only free and truly working DolbyProLogicII decoding algorithm (with proper front vs. rear channels separation). [1.2] - New set of DirectShow configuration options, which allow for easy disabling/enabling of the Aud-X DShow filter, without the need of reinstallation. [1.2] – Direct AC3 to Aud-X transcoding via the executable front-end. [1.2] – Memory leakage problems fixed. [1.11] - Fixed problems with FFDshow compatibility for 48 kHz mp3s [1.11] - Ampliutude autonormalization (causing problems) removed. [1.1] - Now Aud-X HGHQ option is mp3 stereo Dolby Pro Logic II backwards compatible. Thus this option is meant for external DVD players and home theatre systems. When reproduced on a PC with Aud-X codec, similar to AC3 quality is achieved. [1.1] - Stereo output of Aud-X DirectShow decoder is DPLII compatible. [1.01] - Aud-X DShow decoder does not block access to FFDShow Audio any more. Standard mp3 tracks are now decoded with orginally installed mp3 decoder (eg. FFDShow Audio) and next the sound is passed to Aud-X for pseudosurround or just playback. This way users do not loose access to their favorite configuration pannels provided by their previous mp3 decoders. [1.01] - Aud-X DShow decoder does not block access to AC3 Decoder. Now both work together smoothly and you can access features in AC3 Decorer and Aud-X at the same time. [1.01] - Aud-X Decoder is used alone only for Aud-X encoded surround tracks.

Wow! Now that I have your attention, I would like to say that Aud-x is a good way to go if you want to save some room for your video as compared to audio. It sounds good. By the way it is free! Keep up the good work Aud-x.. The audio from Ac3 to Aud-x is great. But, it is tricky what ffdshow you use. I suggest this ffdshow version ffdshow_rev621_20061203. You can find it here http://sourceforge.net/project/downloading.php?gr ... e&73289594

Very good tool, about my only real gripe with it, is it's speed...i know that will eventually be worked on, but for now, it does what it says it does, and it works very well...but it took around an hour and a half to encode a 2 hour audio stream (using a rather powerful computer at that) whereas regular mp3 encoding takes a fraction of that time.......give it a few more versions and i'll bet this will be a bit more known about than what it is right now...
