I have used this primarily to convert DVDs to H264. The interface is reasonably well laid out, although a couple of things take a little looking for. The encoder is strong (x264), and the output formats supported cover a good range. It is annoying to have to wait for DG-Index to process as each title is loaded (or reloaded, as a previous demuxing is ignored and repeated), but the output quality makes up for this.
Unfortunately one of the features that drew me to Staxrip - batch processing - was the thing that let me down. While it is easy enough to set up a batch to process multiple titles, every attempt I made at this had the same result. The first title would be flawless, and all subsequent titles would have audio sync issues. If I reprocessed the same titles either as the only title, or the first title in a batch, it would encode correctly, but if it was the first of a batch, all that followed would be out of sync. Other tools happily process the same files in a batch without suffering from this problem.
If you are only going to process a single file at a time (i.e. not use the batching) you can add two points to my Functionality/Value/Overall scores. But if you need a good batch encoder, I suggest you look elsewhere for the moment. |
