It was with a heavy heart that I found I had to switch to Staxrip to do a dvd conversion to h264 as the latest version does not support virtualdub anymore. But either way I went into it with an open mind hoping that perhaps this tool would be as useful and easy to use as virtualdub. Useful it is indeed, Staxrip is feature-filled and I was impressed. But its heavy-reliance on outside apps and the messy(i have 56K atm)auto-download feature of the external apps was a pain. Moreover staxrip only seems to support a very precise version of the external apps(Avisynth, DGindex, virtualdub codecs etc). Once everything is set up, the program is a breeze(well almost anyway)to use. A good tool for beginners and intermediate users like me, but the initial setting up brought the whole experience down for me. |
