Software: Pinnacle Studio
User review: I've purchased a brand new HP Media Center PC, fully loaded for creating and editing video, but have not been able to get Pinnacle Studio 10.5 to successfully create a functional DVD. I've been pleased with the program's ability to capture and edit video, but none of the 15 DVDs I've attempted to create will play on my Panasonic home DVD player. Some come close, with "only" degraded images or dropped audio; some won't play at all. I've reinstalled the software twice, installed all the latest patches and updates, used multiple brands of DVD media, burned at slower speeds and using safe mode and slower bit rates--nothing helps. On the other hand, the basic Sonic MyDVD software that came with the new computer is rock solid--it creates functional DVDs every time (though it's nowhere near as sophisticated at editing video in the first place). I even burned a DVD with Sonic using a disc image created by Pinnacle and it worked perfectly. I've contacted Pinnacle by e-mail twice in the past two weeks and have got no response whatsoever. I called their phone help and was told that I'd tried everything they could suggest other than uninstalling the "competing" Sonic software, which I'm reluctant to do because it was resident on my computer and I have no way to reinstall it later. For all practical purposes (given that I bought the software to create DVDs), Pinnacle Studio 10.5 has been a waste of money.
