I've noticed comments like, "good for movies under 2.5 hours", etc., but keep in mind that the length of the movie has little to do with how much re-compression will take place. It's the total size of the VOBs on the original disc that you've selected that will affect how much video re-compression is needed.

You could very well have a 1.5 hour, high video bitrate movie (superbit?) and a 3 hour, low video bitrate movie, occupying the same amount of disk space uncompressed, yet they would need (approximately) the same amount of video re-compression to fit into 4.35 GB of space.

Anyway, I don't have any complaints with v3.05b, although I have seen some noticeable video artifacts turn up using v3.17 on more recent conversions, using the deep analysis option on +7GB DVD9s. So, I'm going back to v3.05b.
