Staxrip is being continually updated - it's a very powerful frontend . I am still learning . Pays to do some reading first - great has easy accessible scripts included . If you are completely new - maybe start with handbrake to start to understand encoding - then move over to Staxrip for greater control & tools.
Makemkv and MKVtoolNix Gui - are the 2 other progs I use.
Is a lot of fun learning to encode better - but could also just learn a few templates you like for the results you want .
I run a movie through my own matrix to decide on my settings (eyeballing quickly movie helps a lot ) - which ultimately means allocating more processing/disk space to those you like the most & you want to preserve all it's grain/details the most . As opposed to a still very watchable throwaway movie encoded in 3Gb |
