I needed to use this again for an avi encode, used to use Celtic Druid's super free build(accidentally deleted it on hard drive!), but many builds later it went payware. This latest version has both freeware and retail formats. Most of the time it handles DVD beautifully, but throw a pure interlaced source in and the audio is out of synch with duplicate video frames. Choose aggressive error correction and parts of DVD may be missing during the encode as FU wizard discards specific chains as being uneccessary. Basing my score on specific interlaced or hybrid sources this software fails some of the time to handle them correctly and having to use iso all the time rather than a ripped DVD folder is such a pain. That said its GUI is the best I've ever seen and it does make a lovely xvid or a h264 output from the profiles. Dated now, would have loved to have seen a mild denoiser built in like AutoGK and a h264vfw better build as the one onboard washes out facial details badly at times. Still relevant and useful tool though. |
