Version history / Release notes / Changelog / What's New

Version 2.0e Major changes since last version
--------------------------------
1) Added colour picker tool for picking colours in plugin parameters.
2) Added Chroma key plugin
3) Added support for Freeframe video plugins, they can be used just like internal Wax plugins with full keyframming support and save/restore plugin parameters. More info on Freeframe plugins at www.freeframe.org.
4) Added Track Properties feature for video tracks where the track's opacity/compositing modes can be selected (and keyframmed if required). Click on the small tick mark icon next to the track's enable/disable button to view track properties
5) Wax now plays audio when previewing (audio plays when preview is running, not when scrubbing the timeline)
6) Added support for frameserving in future. A new version of the Frameserver will be released in the next few days to work as a plugin with Wax.
7) Added new stretch mode for images and video elements in the timeline. Earlier image/video elements could be stretched to fit and with or without maintaining aspect ratio. Now these options have been replaced with 4 stretch modes with one new mode - to fill the output dimensions complete with the image/video maintaining the aspect ratio. Try the 4 stretch modes to find the difference.
8 ) Bug: Context menus had the project settings option enabled when running as a plugin. Fixed now.
9) Bug: If a light plugin was applied alone in a track it was not getting used (eg. modelload.wxp sample has such a plugin in the last track and it did not show any light on the model). Fixed now.
10) Added multiple selection ability, you can now press ctrl when clicking on elements in the timeline to do multiple selection and move all selected elements/delete all selected elements etc. easily. Also with this comes improved drag/drop support so you can select multiple files from media pool and drag to the timeline.
11) Bug: In Quick3D plugin the transformed image was showing a dark border when composited over a background, fixed now.
12) Added support for Vegas 6.0.
version 2.0c (June 2, 2004)
-------------
1) Fixed rare hang when closing Wax plugin window inside the NLE host.
2) Fixed issues/crashes with drag-n-drop of media/plugins in Wax.
3) Added "Choose color" item to color selection button choices because new
users were unable to find how to choose a new color.
4) Added loop function to the preview toolbar.
5) Fixed crashes when rendering from Wax standalone as mpeg/swf.
6) Fixed overflow bug in mpeg output which caused strange colours in output
when overflowed.
7) Added new shortcut in start menu to change Wax preferences without invoking
Wax, so that users who have issues with hardware accel can change settings and
try again.
8) Added option to disable loading 3rd party plugins (including default
directx plugins) to optimize for users who dont use them.
9) Added feature to choose the display of timeline position from three
formats.
10) Fixed rare crash in the vegas plugin.
11) Added full support for using Avisynth .AVS scripts in Wax.
12) Fixed bug in using of image sequences as videos.
13) Added seek support while using as Vegas plugin. Now if you click in the
Wax timeline the correct video frame from the vegas media will be shown.
14) Added ability to dynamically preview in the Vegas preview window (and also
in any external monitor connected) while working in Wax.
15) Added feature to use Wax as plugin without accessing the host media. This
speeds up load time and works even on hosts that cannot give host media info
to the plugin - for eg. if Vegas is unable to run scripts or if you have
errors using Wax standard with Vegas you can enable this option and run Wax.
16) Fixed bug in RotoMate bezier approximation.
17) Improved RotoMate - you can now view shape outlines for better clarity
while drawing/editing shapes - the outlines are shown even when you are in
masked mode. Also added feature to delete/add points to existing shapes. To
delete a point select the point and press del key, to add a new point select
the shape and double click on the shape where you want to add the point.
18) Added presets feature. Wax comes with many stock presets for
FX/transitions and users can create their own presets as well using the
standalone version of Wax. These presets can also be shared between users and
online at the Debugmode Gallery website.
19) Added Wax plugins for PureMotion EditStudio.
20) Combined Position3d, Rotate3d and Scale3d into a single plugin named
"Transform3d" for easier use. Also added a user interface for this plugin -
you can open this plugin's options dialog and using the tools shown there you
can rotate/resize/position the 3d objects by click-n-drag in the preview
window.
21) Alpha channels in 32 bit avi files were ignored. Fixed now.
22) Fixed issue with undo and drag-n-drop : after doing an undo/redo using the
Ctrl+Z or Ctrl+Y key combination, the next drag-n-drop was failing. Fixed now.
23) Fixed bug in Text3d plugin that produced strange edges for some characters
if bevels are used in the edges.
24) Added feature to save compressed audio in rendered AVI files (earlier only
WAV output had this ability).
25) Added "Shatter Image" 2D plugin to shatter non-3D image/video elements. If
you got any image/video element with an alpha channel and want to shatter it,
this is the plugin to use.

To previous poster, Avisynth scripts work fine for me in Wax, must be something else in your system that is affecting it.

Review by Safesurfer on Jan 25, 2009 Version: 2.0e OS: WinXP Ease of use: 10/10 Functionality: 10/10 Value for money: 10/10 Overall: 10/10

It is supposed to support .avs files (avisynth scripts) but it doesn't.
It wasn't able to open a single script no matter what I tried (different color spaces, resolutions, ultra-simple script etc).
It always raises an error saying "Unable to open file"...

Dissapointed -useless for me.

Tried to import an AVI to Wax to try a transition: got "Wax has performed an illegal operation". Closing the window resulted in an infinite loop of Waxinvoker error in KERNEL32 that prevented normal shutdown, so had to hit hardware reset.

A fantastic special effects video editor. Not as powerful and feature packed as Adobe After Effects, but it will easily get the job done and it's Free. It will even do some basic 3-D rendering. It can be used as a plug-in for many video editors, or you can use it as a stand-alone editor. It supports multi-layers, transparencies and offers keyframe acurate editing. It comes with a decent list of filters and is a lot of fun to play with. I recomend it to anybody.

Most advanced freeware video editor I have found, but no MPEG input support yet.
