Ok, so it's allowed for us to talk about D/L TV shows. presumably this means they aren't considered warez, so does that mean people can provide/ask for links for getting them, or is that pushing it to far?

Seems like a simple "yes" or "no" would have been easier, not to mention much clearer.

come on offline, baldrick has said we can talk baout downloaded TV shows no problem. he has an explicit no Warez rule. as far as i can see that makes TV shows not Warez, so should be ok to ask as you would about any freeware.

if that's not the case then that's ok too, I'd just like some clarification.

    oh, um...... "hypothetically"

    You push it...

Here we discuss video from a technical prospective. How to convert one thing to other, how to author, how to fix it, how to edit it, etc.

Also we have the off topic section for bitching SatStorm and his English skills.

I don't see any need and I don't see that there is a place here to link downloads of shows.

Or, to put it a little bit different: In this forum, we talking about converting/editing/fixing/author a source (that we don't ask what it is and where it came from) to something that we can watch to our standalones.

    Is that more clear?

So, in theory, if say, in OT, someone had a thread about the TV shows they like to dl or capture/convert/author/burn (all appropriate actions by your statement), that would be ok. Now if others were to PM those individuals and discuss other things within that topic, that would be ok as well.

    Is that an accurate assessment?

I disagree - I don't think he's pushing it at all, and I would also like clarification on this - we talk about all sorts of things on this board, aside from the technicalities of video.

Baldrick has made an exception to the generally-accepted idea that downloaded copyright material = warez. he exempted downloads or exchanging of captured tv shows.

personally, I don't see the logic, but that's his call to make, it's his site. bearing that decision in mind, I can't see how asking to trade a tv show is any more illegal / against the AUP than asking "where can I get a good deal on 4x DVD-Rs?"

I agree, and I'd love to see it clarified.

although with Baldrick's penchant for terse replies, the post will probably read

PMs are like emails. Their are personal and not open to public. Of course, the best alternative IMO is the email

Another reason not to link sites like that, is spaming... Just imagine: Videohelp.com is a popular site: If you open that door, then any distributor of the net would come here and link his site.

It is very risky and I still say that we are pushing it if we link to those sites...

  16. Of course it was a "Perfectly reasonable question".
I was just joshing (having fun).

Baldrick and I, as well as one other of the mods,
have gone through this all before in detail.

I have talked with BOSS (a.k.a Rob) about
warez and he is happy to have it on his site.
    Go there.

Here is the "pirates" method as described by Bugs Bunny (if you don't know who Bugs is, then don't comment). (at least I think it was bugs, could have been someone else )

As long as the show is still being broadcast (cable) and the DVD's have not been released, you are OK. As soon as the DVD is released, any further posting will get you in trouble! This was in reference to some Buffy the Vampire Slayer posts several years ago on Usenet.
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?

i was more on about links to torrents than web sites, avoiding spam problems. for the time being i'll take any queries to politick, but i'd still like an answer if you're reading Baldrick.

it is not okey to say that you have downloaded tvshows from a warez ftp, p2p, torrents.
it is not okey to requests tvshows here.
it is not okey to link to tvshows.
    then it is warezing.

sharing captured tvshows with your closest family / friends is okey but not with the entire world.

    this is my rules...no laws.

    What's the difference ?

    I can see it now:

Hey Baldrick, meet my ..... ummmm ........ brother, yep........ that's what he is, my brother....... he lives overseas........ far far away......... and he's emailed me a TV cap of my favourite TV show. What's the fastest and best way to convert it to DVD without losing quality ???

    TIA.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Why you bring back this topic?

Why you wish to push an international forum to its legal limits, determined by the laws of the very few well known countries that care about that specific thing, just because you like to do fun?

IMHO, do your fun and keep your sarcasm on other subjects, not those who gonna lead this forum to a much more limited and unpleasent place.

I'm sorry you feel so passionate about this Sat.

I was looking through the feedback forum and this was near the top so I felt entitled to have my 2c just like anyone else.
    If in doubt, Google it.
