Bought an HD camcorder recently and have been checking out editors. I installed the eval version of Pinnacle Studio 14 Ultimate and really like it. My PC is an i7 quad core PC with 6GB ram running Vista 64bit and a good graphics card with dual LCDs and tons of disk space. For video I use RAID 0. I think it is important to mention what AV (anti-virus) you use, as some can have a heavy burden and even cause problems. I use Prevx combined with ZoneAlarm free version.
PS 14 had hung a few times, but didn't bring down anything else with it, and when restarted it didn't loose any work. I am blown away by the feature set and ease of use, however I am aware of the huge negative press, and am reluctant to purchase this in spite of my favourite experiences. Too often I've bought s/w only to regret it later. Unfortunately the eval period is only 15 days, but I am sure I could repeat that for longer evaluation.
I am also looking at Vegas, which has better reputation, but fewer features.
