eRightSoft SUPER Spyware/Crapware and Expiration Annoyance Fixes
updated for version 2017 build 71
================================================================

1) Add these lines to your "%windir%\system32\drivers\etc\HOSTS" file:

The IP address above points to a router on our LAN, whose HTTP configuration
UI server will return a "404 Not Found" response for any web page requested by
SUPER or its installer. You can substitute the IP of a real web server (like
google.com) or even localhost (127.0.0.1), although an address without a web
server will lengthen SUPER's startup time while it awaits nonforthcoming
responses.

2) Go to your "%windir%\fonts" directory and look for a file whose size and
timestamp are identical to those of one of the first files in your fonts
directory. In our case, the duplicate file was named either "Arialbg.ttf" or
"Arialtbg.ttf", and it was identical to "Arial.ttf" except that its last eight
bytes had been replaced with the following:

Hex: 75 5A 2F 2C 31 37 37 31
ASCII: u Z / , 1 7 7 1

I'm guessing that the "uZ/," is some kind of identifying signature, but the
"17" and "71" are definitely SUPER's Year and Build numbers, respectively.

This fake font file gets checked and updated whenever SUPER is run. If the
Year and/or Build numbers there are greater than those of SUPER itself, SUPER
will refuse to run, claiming that it has expired. Sneaky.

To get an "expired" SUPER to run again, open this fake font file with a hex
editor and replace the last four bytes with ASCII zeros (0x30 Hex) so you end
up with this:

Hex: 75 5A 2F 2C 30 30 30 30
ASCII: u Z / , 0 0 0 0

SUPER will, in fact, run even if this fake font file contains *only* these
eight bytes.

I've used Super before with success. But THIS version - OMG!!! I just bought a new laptop and as soon as I installed Super, I got infected with a fake-alert virus. It was so bad I had to use the "recovery" option to reinstall the system and start over from scratch.

BTW, your "older programs" appear to be totally different software (not SUPER). Might want to check that out.

The trick to installing Super is to turn off your internet connection. It will give an error message that it cannot download additional components. Click next to continue the installation anyway. The "additional components" are actually the adware that is offered by Open Candy. You can also try this trick with other bundle-ware utilities. It is recommended that after you install Super that you reinstall the latest codec pack from K-lite or whatever you use as some of the codecs in Super could be older versions...

@ texangirl
I'm not a codec pro, I just like to check from time to time if my laptop (i7-3740QM @ 2.70GHz) can play some strange or new formats :-).
I downloaded two VP9 video only samples - small and easy from here: http://base-n.de/webm/VP9%20Sample.html and UHD (13.2Mbps, 3840x2160) from here: http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?111230-Google-VP9-4K-HD-Sample .

The first one I can play and skip back/forward with a mouse easily (it's just 132kbps) using PotPlayer, MPC-HC and MPC-BE. MPC-BE crashes, when I try to play the file again.

The second one crashes MPC-BE 1.3.1 4415 beta. PotPlayer 1.5 45342 dev. beta can play it with its internal codec (based on FFmpeg - 100% CPU, or on LibVPX - 35-50%). When skipping with a mouse I need to wait a while till it buffers to the point on the playback slider. The cars go with soft jumps, more with LibVPX. MPC-HC 1.7.3.21 nightly with internal LAV (0.60.1.22, it's based on FFmpeg too) - the same symptoms as FFmpeg in PotPlayer.
Probably I need to find a smaller, but more dynamic test sample. That UHD is a bit extreme :-)

@ AllisOne
I am encoding successfully with super various files into HEVC and VP9
I use the latest LAV 0.60.1 and While HEVC is perfectly played under DirectShow, VP9 hangs up after the first frame. I run Win 8-64
Are you able to play VP9 flawlessly with DirectShow ?

@ mason

LAV Filters (they are x86 and x64)can play HEVC and VP9. But Strongene Lentoid (only x86) decoder seems to use much less CPU: http://xhevc.com/en/hevc/decoder/download.jsp . Unzip it on your hard drive and register with reg.bat file. Apart from HEVC decoder you'll get FLV splitter and MP4 demuxer/splitter moded for HEVC and HEVC source filter.

Feb 6, 2014 Version: build 59 OS: Windows 7 64-bit Ease of use: 8/10 Functionality: 9/10 Value for money: 10/10 Overall: 9/10

I also tested both HEVC/H.265 and the VP9 codec.
I got excellent results with both of them, to my opinion, better then H.264 however there are few things that could be optimized:
1) HEVC/H.265 quality at about 2400kbps is Awesome and output file size is smaller than H.264 for the same resolution and bitrate, however encoding time is double.
2) VP9 has also excellent quality, but encoding time is 40% more
3) unlike H.264 I couldn't manage to find a DirectShow codecs to play my VP9.MKV or my HEVC.MP4
with AviSynth, anyone is aware of some DirectShow codecs supporting HEVC & VP9

Maybe the interface is a bit rude at first but then once you get the logic it's quite easy. I agree that the first habits might take at least...20min (wow) to come, but then it's straightforward, that's why I rated a 8. Plus, as mentionned below, it kept its interface for years now, so once you get it, where is the issue ?

Regarding functionality, well it works ! when I get the error messages, it's simply because I've messed up containers or rates or that I tried to encode something that is not right ! that might be the improvement to make, maybe a guide to show what are the wrong configurations for encoding. But again, straightforward features, last updates always added nice ones. HEVC is one of them and it's great ! I tried VP9 but prefered HEVC. I rated a 9 since it always works and when it doesn't, it's because it shouldn't.

For last rating, you are gonna laugh but gess what: something that works, that get nice updates with new options, that is easy to use (once you try for 20min I agree), and that is FREE, gets a simple 10.

On occasion I like to refer people to my comments regarding my communications with the mystery entities behind SUPER - see the link at the bottom to a previous post here. A couple of things have changed on the site - I don't see the links to the non-accessible forums anymore but most of it still applies. Doing a WhoIs check instead of some non-existent address in Ky it comes up with an address I can't find in Cyprus - though I do find Agios Mamas in Cyprus. There actually is a name associated with it now. You can try and see if any of the e-mail addresses referenced on the site work.

They still respond to the Spyware/Malware question about the software by referring you to reports regarding their website.

From the FAQ related to SUPER

SUPER C) is definitely not for novice, it provides a huge number of codecs and functionalities that surpasses by far AviDemux.

@sambat: "The head scratching maze interface" as you qualified it, has been EXACTLY the same since 2005. either you like or not, in fact it is the most straight forward and punctual interface for doing what the program has been designed to do.
but one amazing thing amongsts every and each negative post that I would really love to get at least 1 and 1 unique answer.
Users that find this program lousy and useless would legitimately rank ZERO for 'Ease of use', ZERO for 'Functionality' or even a big ZERO for the 'Overall score'.
But being a totally free program, why the heck they rate 2 or 4 when it comes to 'Value for money'. Rating 2/10 means they lost 80% of what they paid for !, but they paid nothing, nada!

@sambat, remember you could anytime opt out the third party recommendations, which is really a simple as a "mouse click", and done no more additional installs!

If you are a trusting sort or perhaps a Novice in a Nunnery, go ahead and embrace this horror.
It warns you up front (if you care to read it) that it it will install additional programs that you will find great difficulty in removing.
The interface of the actual converter is a head scratching maze that defies intuition but if you can negotiate your way through it, it might give you the desired output.
Overall a piece of work that left me wanting to slash my wrists.
Thank God I installed this horror under Sandboxie;one click of the mouse and it was flushed, as all steaming turds should, down the black hole.
AviDemux is the better (and saner) option.

HEVC codec with 808:608 pixel is quite enough for me here.
At least it is working, fast and stable, unlike anything else I tried till today.
I tested some VOB inputs and some other AVIs and FLVs.. they all encoded fine.
Plus, I do not know (till today) any other freeware with fully working HEVC/H265 and VP9
so I gave it 10 !

I've just installed version "v2013.build57 + Recorder (July 13, 2013)"

First step (after agreeing to install third party bits and pieces that may in turn install toolbars): an InstallPath Install Manager.

Cancelling this gives the option to quit or continue, with a (already-ticked) box to "resume installation on next Windows startup". Quitting will launch a web page (http://www.installpath.com/thankyou-installation-interrupted.html).

You can, after this, click Next (on the original Setup box) to install SUPER itself, as far as I can tell without any unwanted payload.

Overall score is a 5 due to the booby-trapped installer, otherwise it would get a 9.

@arizonastar: Open your eyes: SUPER is ad-ware - it's even mentioned in the description! During the set up it asks for user permission to install a lot of crap, but as far as I know it installs much more than it affirms to. Probably, this is how they make money. It's more scam than useful software.
Regarding quality... it's not outstanding, it's not even good. It is hard enough to set up an encoder properly and this ui doesn't help much. Development is going slowly and sporadically and with no remarkable improvement. I wouldn't wonder if the changes only affect the ad-ware part.
Everyone should at least try to look for alternatives. There are so many good front-ends out there. No need to waste time with this junk!

Lot of rumers and buzz about adware that i never ever noticed since 2009, but it has been always like this with this freeware.
I was always wondering about this freeware initially released in 2005 where users claim finding
Adware, Spyware and trojans and stuff... but in the meantime, it is still hosted since its first day on Videohelp, brothersoft, afterdawn, softpedia, chip.de and many other download sites sites.

This SUPER uses FFmpeg and MEncoder like all other encoders but it is
still very easy to use and extremely rich in terms of codecs and formats.
You get the quality of your settings. If I speak for myself, I am getting outstanding quality on
my fast Win7-64 machine.
It is a very good freeware and has been here for the past 8 years.

Before installing this app, see if you can find *any* verifiable info about the company or people that produce it on their website. Do a whois and see if you can find their listed address on any mapping system. See if any of their support email addresses actually work.

Then ask yourself if you feel comfortable using this software.

Very easy to use. Also has loads of presets and formats. Just don't expect expert settings. Just make sure you decline all the adware that pops up on install. I just wish they'd be more open and transparent with the adware.

I used Super a few years ago, no problem. Today I installed the latest version, attempted to decline the add-ins, but still ended up with my homepage changed, new toolbar, changed search engine, and a couple of other unrequested addins to FireFox. I was so irritated that I deleted Super without even running it, and spent an hour undoing all the crap Super added and verifying the crap was truly removed. Super is bad news. Stay away from it. If you must run it, use Sandboxee to contain it, and then have the supreme pleasure of sending Super and its crap to oblivion when you are done!

I will now look at other ffmpeg GUIs or just run ffmpeg from the command line.

What is the use of speed and quality when the file m2ts resolution rates are not proper and compatible for bluray instead of 1088 please put it to 1080 to make it more compliant for bluray and also give choices for dts encoder so we choose the bitrate for it e.g 768, 1536. I hope the author is smart enough to do this job and why not add some features for 3d bd muxing into it as nobody has done it.

The change log says "Great overall speed and quality enhancement when encoding into ... Output Container". I'm wondering how the container affects the video quality. Isn't that up to the specific video encoder?
Yet I can't see any improvement here.

I gave it all 10's, but overall a 3 because of all the bloat-ware added. The trick is to agree to the initial install and decline the next two windows... I unchecked all the toolbar checkoff boxes and then hit decline. Also for the weatherbug garbage, I declined that as well. I'll have to see if it installed any other crap-ware on the system. The last time I installed this, I also got slammed with the ad/spy/bloat-ware. It took me an hour to clean it up and install a previous version. The previous version no longer works as they've somehow disabled it from remote. They can do this since all previous versions access the internet to check for a newer version. Quite annoying. It's truly a bummer as this was a really handy too. I'll post an update if I find any more crapware added in.

The adware is not mandatory, the opt-outs just very trickily placed.
The first is above the agreement instead of the usual check boxes under the eula most free software has, and the second is simply the decline button immediately before installation, giving the impression that to click decline will abort the install.

@ leaglebob
super does not assign the temp folder location.
super exclusively relies on Windows to detect the default %temp% and simply use it once found !

you may change anytime and as much times as you wish your %temp% folder location.
it is a functionality in Windows available to anyone.

you may either Google 'change temp folder location' or try this URL
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-files/change-location-of-temp-files-folder-to-another/19f13330-dde1-404c-aa27-a76c0b450818

I was happy with build 50 and really all the prior ones too. At build 50 SUPER CHANGED DRAMATICALLY. I use it to transcode .ts files to avi/divx/mp3 files. The big change with build 50 is that it builds its temporary file on the C Drive now as a renamed alpha-numberic file and THEN it fails to release/erase/delete that file on successful transcoding. I only have about 7 GB free space on my C Drive so basically I can only recode one hour long show at a time. Movies have to be split in half to have enough room for the transcoding.

I was hoping this would be fixed in build 51 but I don't see it addressed--but the change creating this problem wasn't posted either. I don't like updating software when the changes don't give me anything I want. I should have stayed with build 49 for this very reason but I started getting scripting errors that I assumed was a subtle hint to upgrade, so I did. I suppose SUPER can't get any worse for me than it is.

Of Note: the temp files do seem to release on files of small sizes or it might be files of DvD resolution. Haven't yet narrowed down which issue is controlling.

TO THE FOLKS AT SUPER: go back to build 49 and have the temp file created in the destination target folder. That can be made to be off the C drive so that space is not a limiting factor. After that---you could as in build 49 have the tenmp file with the same name as the original file. That way on crash, you still get a partial file--very helpful quite often. Also==of course, the temp file should be deleted when the file is finished.

DESIRED CHANGE: when doing batch encoding, if there is "an issue" just skip the file and note it. I hate going to the computer with 20 files waiting to be decoded because I changed the name one one of the early files to be decoded. Same with the new "wait for response" to the number of audio files detected. Just note a decode, or skip it.

All the improvements in build 50 have made SUPER almost unusable. This has forced me to look at alternative programs. None of them stack up to build 49 in my book.......but we shall see.

ALSO---its asinine to disable the older builds of your program. Yes, the program is free, but what the hey?

I haven't used Super in a while. I've been using Freemake on my 64 bit PC but I had a problem with a H264 that I was trying to convert to XVID so I decided to download Super to try it again. Not only did it load a bunch of bloatware I neither needed or wanted, it gave me an access violation every time it loaded. When I decied to uninstall Super and its bloatware with Revo Installer, the Insight toolbar and software had loaded over 900 registry additions which had to be deleted individually. Took me a couple of hours just to remove that crap. Super has always needed a great deal of resources but even though I have a much more powerful PC, the software is a lot worse. I consider this a disaster.

Long story short, I tried the "problem" converstion again on Freemake, changed the inputs, and voila, it worked perfectly in a matter of minutes.

If you're looking for a free, easy-to-use video converter, I recommend Freemake.

There seems to be high concern for add-ons, etc. in installation; I just installed the latest version and I didn't see anything that was any different from most of the free utilities out there. Sure, there was the traditional toolbar, etc. After all, the guy has to make some money somehow. All I did was choose not to install, the same as I do with 90% of the popular utilities available. No big deal. Just go slow and read all the options as you install and deselect the ones you don't want. As far as performance, Super is like all the others and better than some. It has saved my bacon a couple of times when my other tools would not do the conversion job. And it has failed several times also. Haven't they all? That's why most of us have several utilities installed, right? Ok, the guy has some attitude, but I can set that aside. For free? Come on, folks, it didn't cost you anything after all, and it works. Many times it really works great. By the way, the first time I booted it Avira tagged a "malicious item", but in the details I saw it was a heuristic tag, not a logged virus. I ran Avira on the installation file before installing and it came up clean. False positive. Just thought I would mention it.

Definitely true about the adware, temp file etc. A lot of "free" apps are now doing this however. One thing I always do after installing ANYTHING is run Revo Uninstaller to get rid of the extras. Hate getting stuck with even stuff people willingly download like Bing Bar, the Ask toolbar etc. Revo makes short work of most of them and for those it doesn't ccleaner does pretty good. Both of these are available as portable apps you don't even have to install. As for temp files, I have all my user data files, and also all windows temp files, relocated to a separate data partition on my hard drive. Nothing but the OS on that partition, and have an image backup of the OS on another. Regardless of what adware you get stuck with though you'd be surprised how well and ad-blocking hosts file (just google that term) works on them. Natch browse to the site with firefox with noscript loaded and only permit scripts from the site itself. You pretty much have to do all these things in this day and age.

Mar 30, 2012 Version: v2012 Build 50 OS: Windows 7 64-bit Ease of use: 7/10 Functionality: 6/10 Value for money: 9/10 Overall: 7/10

I was happy with my older version of Super but started getting notices that a new version was available. At the same time I started getting scripting errors in the software. Not all the time but I never got them before the notices so I figured I had better upgrade and the errors were a method to coax me. So I installed Ver 50 and got Browser Helpers and Hijacks and a Turbo Booster that Scotty caught. As per normal Scotty stopped them from automatically loading "but" then notified me of them wanting to load about every 3 minutes. So, I loaded them and took a few hours uninstalling them and doing ccleaner, avast virus and other cleanups.

I experienced all the problems others have noticed here and was going to do a system restore to an earlier time to get the older version of Super back when I noticed that my C Drive was full. One of the changes is that Super now writes a temp file to the C Drive, which I assume is what the long parsing time is all about. VERY BAD DESIGN, but I assume that issue is what caused my partial files and other errors. I had to clean up and delete some files on C Drive to make room and that done now, Super seems to be working as good as ever---maybe a bit slower but that may just be the transfer of the temp file===did I say that was a VERY BAD DESIGN!!!!

Irritating to find a program you like and have it ruined/mal affected with upgrades==but it is working now. Hope this helps for anyone else with the same desire to use Super.

To the Folks at Super: please at least allow user to select where the temp file is located?==and why not have it in the destination folder so that patial files will be secured on partial performance and a double writing of the file is avoided for both time and error purposes. Large temp files to the C Drive is VERY POOR DESIGN for no good reason that I can think of. Old Super worked fine.

After performing the upgrade from the July, 2011 version to the current one of February, 2012 I got a malware alert about a trojan. I uninstalled, and got re-installed the July version. Now even the July version seems to be unstable, shows "you need to update," all the time, and crashed what it did not do before.

I loved SUPER but the latest update ruined my trust in this software.

I contacted the vendor about the virus alerts. Three of the provided email addresses did not work, and from one I got a reply days later saying, "The software is malware free."

However my virus scanner still shows the problem and the vendor simply does not show any attempt of fixing it.

They have lost with me.

Now I am looking for similar software.

Previous versions were quite good, however, this latest update comes with several additional nasty things which were tolerable in the past but this release made them way more annoying. Additionally, it crashes or locks up a lot which previous releases did not have such problems at all. Also, it asks for confirmation when converting high res videos and you have to manually click yes to allow it to continue which basically makes it useless to convert multiple large videos since it will stop and wait for confirmation for each video (if it doesn't crash first). Also, you cannot uninstall it and reinstall an older version which worked flawlessly.

Easy to use for somebody like me and results are generally good. Thats where the positives end though, all the bad things you read about this program are true. IMO build35 of this program is the only one worth using, newer versions progressively introduce more and more bugs along with horrid ad/spyware. With the exception of build35, AVOID THIS SOFTWARE. Use Xvid4PSP instead.

I always used it since 2006, I will always use it. Both office and own laptop
FYI, Adware as mentioned above DOES NOT mean any threat. WINAMP is adware http://www.videohelp.com/tools/Winamp
cause it recommend third party softwares, so what? they need to cover development cost, while still in conformity with all relevant standards. Microsoft and Google(yes indeed) together wiht Realplayer and even the AVG ANTIVIR are all Advertisers with Opencandy.

SUPER is second to none in so many aspects.
for the fellow "pintcat" saying that super "it uses a heavily outdated version of ffmpeg"
please note that SUPER's ffmpeg has started encosing VP6/VP7/VP8 and Webm before any other freeware Mediacoder or other.. have you heard about DLL injection ? that's what's about.

Interesting read, indeed! I stopped using SUPER© a long time ago, mainly due to the fact that it uses a heavily outdated version of ffmpeg. But I still recommended it to other people who were looking for a simple & fast way to convert or remux a video. Well, even this has come to an end now. Thank god there are many other (far better) front-ends for ffmpeg, mencoder and all the other tools, and so, hopefully, SUPER© will be forgotten soon and eRightSoft will be flamed down to their knees to show that exploiting people's trust is a bad idea for a business.

After seeing all the quirkiness on that eRightSoft site, I tracked down the e-mail address on the Whois report and wrote to it. At least I finally found an address connected to eRightSoft that does actually work.

I addressed various issues as mentioned previously. Here's the progression of messages. Are these the kind of people whose software you want on your system?

My first inquiry:

----------

Sent to try1fmk@yahoo.com

Subject: Regarding eRightSoft site and Super

Why isn't OpenCandy adware that's installed by recent versions of Super mentioned on the Super FAQ page on the eRightSoft site? Further, I note that your FAQ refers one to a Norton Safeweb site to substantiate that Super is malware free. However, the page at Norton Safeweb refers to the eRightSoft site, not the Super app itself.

The forum for Super doesn't seem to actually exist. The link on the page just brings up a loading clock forever.

Can't seem to locate 6614 Burton Dr. Louisville, KY on any mapping system.

Hoping you can clarify these issues.

Thanks.

----------

Their first response. Actually got a duplicate response from try1fmk@yahoo.com & support@erightsoft.net - note the .net extension, not the .com address that appears on their site:

Re: Regarding eRightSoft site and Super

If you ever try to install SUPER(C), which is a totally free software that has been hosted since 2005 and currently installed 15000 time a day, you will come across a page that you need to accept in order to be able to continue...

**Editor's note - that's another thing, this copyright symbol after SUPER. Are they trying to claim a copyright on the word SUPER? It seems a trademark symbol would be appropriate, not a copyright symbol.**

that's the END USER LICENSE AGREEMENT (EULA) page.

Why don't you have a look at it, it covers all your queries..

For those who by nature are most of the time unhappy, or wouldn't stop nagging,

the EULA says:

DO NOT CLICK ON THE "I ACCEPT THE AGREEMENT" BUTTON BELOW IF YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND, YOU DISLIKE OR DISAGREE WITH THESE TERMS AND CONDITIONS.

Hope all is clear..

Sincerely,

-Al

----------

My subsequent response:
Re: Regarding eRightSoft site and Super

"..Why don't you have a look at it, it covers all your queries.."

Well, not quite. Such as why under the FAQ when Adware is specifically mentioned there's talk about false flagging due to heuristics but doesn't say "the app installs adware". Alerts regarding adware has nothing to do with heuristics, it has to do with the fact that the app installs adware. That would be an appropriate place to mention it instead of dancing around the subject.

The EULA also doesn't address why the FAQ refers to the Norton Safe Web report to "prove" that Super has passed third-party inspection when that report has nothing to do with Super, just the eRightSoft site.

Also not addressed in the EULA is why none of the contact email addresses currently listed on the eRightSoft site are valid. Ironically the privacy policy also references one of the non-functioning addresses. It also doesn't address why the links for forums don't actually link to forums just to load clocks. Or why there's nothing on the eRightSoft site about specifics related to the company - no names - no president, CEO, founder. Nothing about where the company is located. The address as listed in the Whois report doesn't seem to exist. Doesn't come up on Bing maps, Google maps, whitepages.com.

Is the guy in the suit on the wide image on the home page banner someone who actually has anything to do with eRightSoft or just some model on a clip-art image?

We're told the code for Super doesn't contain malware. Does it contain code to call in malware during install and/or after the fact? Many people in various forums seem to think it does.

If you could clear up these concerns it would be great.
----------
Their response:

Re: Regarding eRightSoft site and Super

**Editor's note - the following (under "point 1") is a link to a report regarding a file related to the OpenCandy install. I'm not aware that it addresses any other aspect of the install of Super. In case something about the link doesn't work out with this comments section, since there's no edit function - here's a tinyurl for the same link - http://tinyurl.com/437vqbl **

point 1)

http://www.virustotal.com/file-scan/report.html?i ... 1317114543
44 anti-virus editors are saying : OpenCandy is 100% clean

**Editor's note - he doesn't address the rest of the Super install as I asked. **

what you say or other people believe is worthless.

so does SUPER(C) whether you accept, admit, believe it or not..

Go and complain to your TV station that commercials are so annoying in the middle of a movie.
Tell them how much you feel irritated by these commercials that you never asked to watch !!
you don't want commercials, you pay a private channel.

The same applies everywhere. If you do not understand this concept, you are still far far behind.

point 2)

All our email addresses are perfectly valid and fully running on very sophisticated servers.
If WE NEED you: we let you in, otherwise you are systematically kicked out.

We could grant you access in a second, But WE DO NOT need you or have any business with you.

We have no relation other than providing a freeware with NO COUNTERPART.
you could either accept or decline the EULA, period.

**Editor's note - they then include a list of bounces of my intial attempts to email the addresses shown on the "Contact Us" portion of the site. Certainly a curious attitude related to publicly listed contact info, eh? I've just included the first one. I've redacted my email and ISP info. These were attempts made before I contacted the address listed on the Whois report, they didn't have a chance to get pissed at me for asking pesky questions yet. **

Thanks, I understand the Adware issue now, but not having downloaded the program from here I had no way of knowing.

Also, interesting thread, especially the part about trying to get straight answers and document-able proof of nastiness related to using Super.

To add to the issues here, I used Super(c) to convert my glitchy MGEG2 files to AVI, then checked them using GSpot, and GSpot showed that Super(c) had added its name in three places in the file's metadata, and GSpot said that there were 3+ GB of unused bits past the video! Hopefully there was an error in closing the file and nothing more sinister than that.

In the end Prism Video Convereter ended up doing a good job with these conversions and that will be my first choice from here out.

Per mike20021969:

"...Regarding people being suspicious of Super, it does say under Type: Adware..."

To clarify this point, it's classified as Adware here on Videohelp, however eRightSoft doesn't say anything about Adware, they conspicuously avoid any mention of the Adware's presence on their website. In fact, as I pointed out below, they imply that there isn't any adware, attributing flags by malware/adware detection apps to be merely due to overzealous heuristics. This is deceptive and misleading.

The even more important question is whether it does other things after being installed to attract genuine malware.

On this post user aedipuss shows a log that appears to show malware directly related to Super.

http://forum.videohelp.com/threads/339221-Is-Supe ... ost2108680

The smoke and mirrors game on the eRightSoft site doesn't inspire trust. A reputable company wants you to know about them and wouldn't have all these blind alleys on their website - non-working email addresses, non-existent forums, referrals to websites to "prove" how reliable their app is that don't actually address the app in question. Further they wouldn't go out of their way to make it impossible to contact them. For all I know "eRightSoft" could be one guy. I wouldn't bet money that the guy pictured on the website banner has any connection to eRightSoft, that it isn't just some stock "corporate" clip-art image.

I just e-mailed the address referenced below in their domain registration. I'll report back what if any response I get.

I'm using build 42, although I just downloaded but will not install build 49 for reasons listed in teh comments below, and due to my experience. Read on.

I just completed some mpeg -> avi conversions. My mpeg files had issues due to dodgy power for the cameras, and Super dealt with them fine. After they were done I checked them using MediaPlayer and noticed a "created by Super..." tag on the top of the screen. In "Properties" for my video file I saw that they had added themselves as a contributing artist. Tacky and unforgivable.

Midway through the conversions (I was converting 6 video files) I got an error message, something about a Java error on line(0), plus the mention of a web page a eRightSoft. WTF? I had already checked for updates. What is this damned thing doing?

I'm done with eRightSoft, much like I gave up, exasperated, with that AVI Converter software that is all over their web pages. It's actually difficult to find the Super download.

I emailed support at eRightSoft and the email came back in a few minutes, rejected. "access not allowed".

I don't have a problem paying for good software. I'd be happy to pay eRightSoft for an honest version of their program. Or rather, I would have been.

I no longer use Super, and haven't done for quite a while. I always found it very slow (compared to the likes of HandBrake/VidCoder etc.).

The app itself works fine but after hearing a lot about suspicions regarding malware related to Super I've done some investigating. Some things I've found since first posting that don't cause me to look positively on eRightSoft. Their website has a number of issues.

Recent releases of Super installs Adware called OpenCandy which I was alerted to by Microsoft Security Essentials. I'd never heard of OpenCandy before. Their FAQ page regarding Super says it's malware free. It doesn't say a word about OpenCandy. On principle I don't have a problem with there being adware that comes up during install - I think most people would understand "these brief commercials are how we're able to offer this app for free". OpenCandy may not be malware per se, but in the interest of disclosure they should say something about it. But there's nothing about adware anywhere on the page. Seems obvious to me that there should be.

The way the issue is even addressed is dodgy. It's prefaced with a question that among other things, specifically addresses adware. The reason an anti-adware app would alert isn't because of heuristics giving a false flag, it's because there's adware in the app. This is what's on their FAQ page as of the time this is written:
Q.033 After or during the installion of SUPER © my Anti-vir, Anti-adware, Anti-spyware, Anti-malware warned me of a serious security threat. Why is that?

A. SUPER © is 100% clean of any malicious code. Check the NORTON Safeweb report.
We have counted 23 specialized download sites proposing SUPER © for download as a safe 100% clean package.

When you encounter a false detection, it is mostly heuristic, meaning that the anti-vir wasn't able to parse and recognize the written code, so the file was flaged "suspicious, heuristic or gen (generic)" by default.

Due to the .exe files packer (tELock) used for almost all the files in the package in order to compress, protect and preserve the integrity of our code, some anti-malware/vir may trigger a false detection as the tElock (Encryptor/Compressor) crypts the files before packing them. A great deal of security is therefore achieved, preventing against the reverse engineering of our codes, but the drawback of this protection is that some Anti-vir cannot even parse correctly the file to scan it, so they flag it "suspicious". Any (with no exception) .exe or .dll file packed/crypted/protected with tElock may trigger a false detection with those "heuristic based" Anti-vir programs. You may try tElock to pack any executable file of your choice to test it on your
favorite Anti-vir.

Advanced Anti-malware/vir like McAfee, Norton, Sophos.. are already aware of the tElock usage in our package and do not trigger anymore those false detections.

If your Anti-vir database is updated online by your anti-vir application, we suggest you send a copy of the flaged file to your anti-vir author to update and correct its database.

If any file of the package has been deleted or blocked by your Anti-malware/vir, SUPER © will become totally inactive, and won't start anymore!
Further, note that it claims that Norton's Safeweb site supports the non-malware claim and provides a link to Norton summary page. Thing is, the page is about the eRightSoft site, not about the Super app itself. Very deceptive wording.

There's a link to a forum for Super and another of their apps - not under "Forums" but under "Messages" - but these forums are non-existent. Whether these forums ever existed I can't say but the link brings up a load clock which loads forever. Above the load clock is the verbiage "Give your feedback and comments, share them with other users, ask, complain, encourage.."

None of the five email addresses listed under "Contact" are valid. After trying all of them, they all bounced back as undeliverable. Ironically, under their "Privacy Policy" they reference one of the non-functional addresses for any concerns.

Under their "About Us" link, you won't find the name of an actual person - president, CEO, founder. You also won't find anything about where the company is located. Just some typical verbiage about their methodology and commitment.

A Whois lookup brings up this information:

Thing is, if you look at Google maps, it brings up no Burton Dr. in Louisville, KY. There's a Bucky Burton Rd (shown as Bucky Burton Dr in Bing maps) and a Burton Ave. The specific address as listed doesn't show in either Bing maps or Google maps.

None of this says "trustworthy" to me.

I think some of the comments here are unjust. I've been using Super for several years. It's stable and delivers.

It's the only encoder I've tried that has the option to put the metadata at the beginning of an h.264/MP4 file so it streams when embedded on a web page (other options > streamable h.264). With all other encoders (including Sony Vegas) this has to be fixed before uploading (MetadataMover is a good free utility for this). Considering the millions of websites that now want to stream h.264 this is a major omission in other encoders.

Yes there is some optional adware when you install Super. Just untick if you don't want it and the authors explain why some people might experience a false positive with anti-virus software. My system is like Fort Knox yet I don't get any warning personally.

Anyway, don't be put off trying Super. It's excellent.

Super build 49 will not install at work because IT has blocked the download of some imbedded crapware function. It always tries to download a file that - by the way has a different file name every time I try to install it. At home, I can install it with no problems but I get all these crapware options I must "decline" and uncheck first. Build 48 installs at work with no problem. I would give this program a 10 for being a problem solver but now it has become the problem itself.

This is the best, "all you can get" converter software. It converts all your media to any format, easy to use (if you know some basic kpbs, fps, format stuff), simple and fast.

But its setup file is a major pain. The latest build setup file contains unnecessary bloats that keep asking you to install other software, not needed in the actual software.

And in my PC, it tries to connect to the internet during setup, and stuck there forever. no problem in my connection. I disconnect internet, but it still stuck there.

Sometimes, magically it finishes the setup, but the software can't open at all. I tried reinstalling, with internet connection (maybe its trying to download something for the installation), It works after a few tries, but still the software can't be open.

This sucks! I had no problem at all using the older Nov 2010 build. This is all because of those "extra" shit they put inside their setup file! I'm still using the old build, and you should too.

Softpedia treats this app as " ad-supported" :
"Reasons why this program is marked as ad-supported:

That´s enough for me .One can find way better (and cleaner) apps here.

I have been using super for a few years now and it is a great converter. The problem is the latest version has a ton of bloat ware stuff that it loads, without my permission. Some stupid toolbar gets loaded, and my default search engine got changed to bing in 2 different browsers none the less. I hate the newest version due to this crap. I've uninstalled it and gone to handbrake instead. IT doesn't convert as many formats, but it doesn't load crap either.

Use to be a big fan of Super because it handles so many formats, but just loaded the latest version after it prompted me to uninstall the existing version and it took over my computer. It loaded a bunch of crap without permission and even when Scotty the watchdog warned me about it, when I tried to stop it it wouldn't let me. I uninstalled it but I still have the toolbar, all I could do was uncheck it so it wouldn't show. Now I have to run a full scan of antivirus, malwarebytes and spybot to make sure something else didn't sneak in. This will take a couple of hours and I am p*ssed. Why would they do this to a formally terrific software? It's more than just adware, it's bloatware. Don't risk loading it despite what the previous comment says.

Absolutely no issues or any other system modifications made during the install process.

Still the choice for converting those stubborn video clips which other programs find difficult or choke.

Just installed the latest version. I downloaded it direct from videohelp.com. The version I installed contained a lot of ad-ware stuff. It changed all of my defaults to "Bing" search engine. Pissed about that. It installed something called a whitesmoke toolbar. My Norton killed that... but I truly wasn't happy with all the garbage that got tacked onto Super. If that's how it is, I'll stick to using the last version from November 2010.

Truly stupid.

This is a great tool, and I advise people to download it. It is great for converting video Virtualdub won't touch and decompressing certain types of videos (mp4, wmv). It's been great, EXCEPT version 2011v44. Download 2010v41 from the "old versions" on this page.

I couldn't install the 2011v44. Some sort of malware/BHO rubbish popped up and I rejected it. I then could not complete installation. I deleted the programs folders so it wouldn't have to uninstall and my temporary files, and it still refused to install.

Hello every one, first time user here although I've always been surfing around here.
Please be aware of this latest version of Super.
I wasn't able to install it (not my fault) since I prevented it from installing spam!
During installation the program asks for internet access, well you say no problem.
Then a strange application name came up trying to install (I forgot the name) but it sounds like spam or scam, money collector or something like that plus browser tool bars.

I tried the whole installation process 3 times and it always failed because I denied spam and advertising from being installed on my computer.
Finally my computer was left with a Erightsoft folder, Super's uninstall applet couldn't uninstall and warned that it was corrupted, my Your Uninstaller was not able to detect the executable, two Super related applications were still running in the Task Manager, I manually deleted Erightsoft folder.

I sent an e-mail to Erightsoft aiming to give my "feedback" and to alert them about the spam thread and the unsuccessful installation.
They replayed but they just "blamed" me for not reading the EULA!!
Now please computer literate people answer my question: SINCE WHEN SPAM IS TO BE INCLUDED IN THE EULA??

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN AND TO WHOM IS CONCERNED ABOUT LAST SUPERC UPDATE

Since Supforum is down, I report here the following bug with
SUPER © v2010.build.42 (Nov 7, 2010)
Any video file (up to 1080p) with H264 codec plays fine on my computer with BSplayer and CoreAVC Version 2.0.0.0 (Updated on 2009-12-18).
Unfortunately, if I install the above SUPER © on my computer and run the program once, then the video files won't play properly any more (the image shows some decompression problem) even after closing SUPER C.

I have to reinstall CoreAVC to play the video correctly again.
I do not like the fact that SUPERC does not uninstall properly and hide some curious files or update onto the HDD

happy new year
Excuse my English cause I am a French Frog!

@ VirtualDoobMon

The purpose of leaving comments in the Tools section here is for the programs only. It is not to make obnoxious, disrespectful comments to other commentators who have the right given to them by Video Help to place a negative review. Also, it was not nasty but constructive criticism and a warning to others that may end up with the same problem. I gave it all 1's because: I could not use it. It did not function. It cost me valuable man hours in trying to get it to work. Thus, overall score 1. My comment was for Build 42. For build 39, I would give 10, 7, 10, 7. But that build's history as with all other builds I have going back to 2007. My machine is "infected" with the Build 42 block.

If Super doesn't work for you, you could always try XMedia-Recode. I use it a lot, and it usually works for me. Its frequent updates ensure that any bug introduced into a new version is quickly quenched. Also, this tool gives the user more options than Super, such as two-pass encoding. Experts will find it easy to configure it to their liking, whereas beginners will find the "profiles" to be very convenient, as they contain some very hand preset settings. For example, a beginner trying to convert a video for their iPod simply needs to select an appropriate iPod model from the list, and let the program do its thing.

Warning! Do not install "build 42". The programmers at Erightsoft have really screwed this one up. There is a major bug in it which makes Super go into an almost endless loop. I tried to encode many different formats from videos to just plain audio. It would take over 15 minutes for the green dial to loop back like a multi-pass before it faulted with an error. These were small test files of only 20 to 1 MBs in size. Uninstalled and reinstall it with no luck.

There is even a bigger problem. Reinstalling to earlier versions is a wast of time, because THEY WILL NOT RUN. Erightsoft have put in a block to that. The program either leaves some code in the registry hive or it point to some file in the system that has been left behind (on purpose) after you uninstall.

I have been using Super for about 2 years now and found it very useful in the past. However, this time I have uninstalled it from my system. I'll not use it till "build 43" is released, and they better get that one right.

@peter77

That is the whole purpose of comments. To leave opinions. That includes positive and negative ones. If you are suggesting comments be censored only to leave positive views, then that defeats the purpose. I support you leaving positive ones, but that doesn't mean you have to suggest I can't leave a negative one. I explained the issue I had. I did not swear. I may have been upset, but I was polite. It's still a genuine issue that needs to be resolved. Perhaps you should evaluate the purpose of leaving a comment before you suggest someone with a different view censor themselves. I'm sure if you had just spent hours backing up and reformatting just so you could use an old version of software that you find necessary for you to do something you do quite often, you might be a little disappointed in the new version also.

DO NOT UPGRADE TO THE NEW VERSION (build 39) WHATEVER YOU DO. It has several issues with crashing quite often and when it does work, it produces files that simply do not work. Audio is not synced, audio is messed up and sounds as if it's underwater, it stops encoding and gives errors halfway through encoding. Not only does this occur, but it's impossible to downgrade through conventional means. Uninstalling and reinstalling an older version that previously worked on your PC does not work at all for mysterious reasons. After installing an older version, the program simply does nothing. Will not start. Produces no errors.

I was using build 38 without problems to encode DV avi files to MP4 and MPEG. Now it does not work anymore. Since i updated to build 39 the program closes the moment i hit encode.
The same source files were working fine with b38. Same config. Same codecs installed.

I have tried to get in contract with Erightsoft. Email doesnt work. Forum does not work.
I can't downgrade to build 38. The program wont let you do it. It won't load after install. It seems super installs a registry key somewhere which prohibit installing older versions.

It's a pity , because Super is the only encoder which accept avisynth scripts whereas Handbrake does not. I am f-cked until they fix this issue. The only solution for me is to reinstall my system in order to use B38 again.

Been using this software for a 2 years fine. I have it on one machine as 2009v35. I installed the latest version on another machine. Both machines are XP Pro. On the new machine converting M2TS files to DivX AVI does not work (video fine, sound bad). This conversion works fine on old machine with 2009v35

Uninstalled 2010v37 and installed the older 2009v35 on the the new machine. Now Super is not starting. Uninstalled and reinstalled the latest 2010v37, and it runs fine, but does not do the M2TS conversion properly.

1. SUPER DOES NOT ALLOW YOU TO INSTALL AN OLDER VERSION ON YOUR MACHINE.

2. SUPER BULLETIN BOARD DOES NOT LOAD UP, and other bulletin boards claim the board is a mess (their opinion, not mine).

3. SUPER SUPPORT IS ONLY VIA THE NON LOADING BULLETIN BOARD ..... (ok others were able to load it but complaining of not being able to sign in .... just google for the reference).

Super does most conversions fine, but may not do all it advertises.

I have always trusted VideoHelp.com but Mcafee also tells me this program has a virus as well. Might be a false positive but I was infected by something about the same time I installed this program so I cannot take the chance. If everyone is getting viruse scanner hits you probably need to change your code. It will not work to keep telling us we are stupid.

Even the author of VirtualDub (one of the best programs around for .AVI work) has to eventually change code because the virus scanners kept nailing it as a problem.

I really like the idea of what this program can do because I have a lot more control over the parameters that some of the other front ends. Until the code changes and the written abuse stops I will continue to use a combination of AutoGK and Handbrake to meet my needs.

Good luck.

My daughter received a Philips GoGear Vibe for Christmas and she wanted to put a video file on it. I tried to use the program that came with it (Media Converter for Philips) to convert an avi that I had on computer but when it was finished and I tried to put it on the gogear vibe, it said file not the right format. This program is set to convert to SMV! I kept searching for a program to use and came across Super. I downloaded 201037 and upon installing I was also prompted it had found DR/Delphi virus. I use Avira as well. I ended up installing the last version, 200936, and needless to say, Super errored about 15 minutes into conversion. I re-read specs needed for file and tried to set them again in super, i hit encode and it failed within minutes. I then went to SMV Converter, it converted on problem but while trying to transfer the finished file it said unsupported format. It is really hard for me to give it a rating as this was the first time I have used this program. I wont give up though, I will try again another day.

Jan-02-2010

Disclaimer: This rant is based on my waking up to find I couldn't use Super build 36 anymore for stream-to-disk, because eRightSoft apparently went into my computer and disabled that feature until I update to build 37. Like another user, on trying to update to build 37 I got an Avira warning about DR/Delphi.gen dropper, so I aborted the update. I screen capped the warning and upped it here:

http://imageupper.com/i/?S0600010060011I26246184582647

Maybe we need a new acronym for Super: PITAware. What makes Super a pain is that it's occasionally useful, but the person(s) behind it often finds a way to irritate users or make them afraid to have Super on their computer, not knowing what the author might do on a whim with all those wacky dll's, packed files, and phone calls to home.

The latest "outrage" is that as of Jan-2-2010, the author has apparently disabled some features of existing installations of build 36 in order to "force" end users to update to build 37. On startup, Super checks with eRightSoft for its latest marching orders. Now that build 37 just came out, the way of irritating users of build 36 is to disable the stream functionality until you update. The update is free (as is the software), but this is still unacceptable behavior, for reasons similar to the Amazon/Kindle fiasco where Amazon went into people's Kindles and removed content it decided they shouldn't have. This makes end users feel violated.

Users (even of free programs) expect software creators to act decently and not callously cripple existing apps. The ethics of going into someone's computer and intentionally crippling the functionality is very shady. If you want people to use Super, they need to trust you. Going in without permission and crippling features is a "scumware" tactic. Nothing in the license agreement appears to give eRightSoft permission to tamper with software on the end user's computer once it's been installed.

The way the relationship between programmers and end users is supposed to work, users update because they have positive feelings toward the product and hope to get improved features. They don't update to get back features the programmer took away when they weren't looking!

The combo of the "forced" update plus the Avira warning gives this user a bad feeling. My impulse is to remove Super and use a different app to save Real Audio rtsp streams to disk. One way of doing this is using SMPlayer Portable, which is a good GUI for MPlayer and comes with all the codecs you need (including Real Audio):

http://smplayer.sourceforge.net/downloads.php

With the portable version, everything unzips to a single folder. No codecs are installed in your system. I suggest running two copies of SMPlayer Portable from separate folders: one set up to save streams to disk; the other to listen normally. This way, you can create a "poor man's Streamripper" for Real Audio and other exotic streams. You can use the two copies of SMPlayer to create a "relay." The first copy saves the stream to disk, and with the second copy, you navigate to the rip (in progress) and play it.

You can label one folder SMPlayerForListening and one folder SMPlayerForRipping. The app comes with different styles and icon sets (i.e. skins), and I suggest changing these so the two versions look different when you run them both at once.

To set one copy of SMPlayer to save streams to disk instead of playing them: Go to Options:Preferences:Advanced:OptionsForMPlayer. In the Options box you'll see:

-nofontconfig

Add -dumpstream to that so the final result looks like:

-nofontconfig -dumpstream

Now when you "play" a Real Audio stream, you won't hear it but the raw stream will be saved to a file called dump.stream. The default location will be .\screenshots but you can change this in Options:Preferences:General.

As for Super, if it's not malware, why the shady actions by the programmer(s)? Why don't they act like good corporate citizens and respond reasonably to user complaints? Why all the sneaky stuff? I would like to be able to use Super and to trust the programmer(s). But they need to improve their attitude, social skills, treatment of end users, and virus-checking before releasing a "forced" update.

Yes, Super is free, based mostly on other people's free code. But the author of Super is so paranoid about somebody else stealing his GUI that he apparently uses various shady techniques which trigger anti-virus and anti-malware warnings.

This might come as a surprise, but to provide services (even free services) to others is a privilege. People who want to develop their career and skills by providing free software have to earn the right to put it on people's computers. This happens through trust.

I'm involved in distributing free food. But if I simply threw the food at people, or made them jump through too many hoops, or gave them the food then took it back again, they wouldn't want it from me. They would choose to trust somebody else.

To be more successful, eRightSoft needs to recognize that providing a service is a privilege, and responding well to complaints from end users is necessary - even if the product is free.

I apologize if these comments are harsh. My intent is not to disparage the creator(s) of Super, but to encourage a higher standard that would make trust possible.

Michael

Checked with NOD32, no viruses. You shouldn't rate something 1 of 10 in all categories because of a false postive. T'ain't right.
This is a great, very versatile tool. So far this is the only (free) software that I have tried that successfully was able to make a DVD compliant DVD5 from a BD movie I converted with BDRebuilder. It converted the .mt2 files that I can play on a standalone (upconverting) DVD player and the picture quality is as good as a standard DVD. I tried 4 or 5 different softwares, (pay and freeware) and this was the only one that worked and it's free. Keep up the good work.

(Disclaimer: The problem described below may apply only if Avisynth is used, or only if a complicated Avisynth script is used with a large source video file.)

I had been using Super for about nine months, and it had worked great all that time.

But about a month ago, it started failing consistently. After checking the possible reasons mentioned in the error message, I checked potential causes: Avisynth script errors, hard drive problems, too little (or too much!) RAM, WinXP corruption, etc. Nothing cured the problem.

Then I remembered that the free space on my C drive had been slowly diminishing, due to my adding new software and files.

Until I tried everything else, I didn't give this a thought. After all, my video source files and converted files were on other partitions, not on C:. And in any event, I had 1.8 GB of free space on drive C, and that was much more than the size of any of my converted files (680 MB or less). Plus, FFMPEG, when invoked directly, worked flawlessly with the current free space, and that's the converter that Super was using to convert my files.

But since I had tried everything else, I tried reconfiguring the location of my TEMP and TMP folders to another hard drive, one that had a generous 26 GB free space.

To my delight, Super once again worked flawlessly.

Since Super worked fine until my free space for the TEMP and TMP folders had diminished to about 1.8 GB, I estimate that Super required free TEMP/TMP space of about 2 GB, at least for my large projects (28 GB or larger input files). It's puzzling that FFMPEG--which was the converter that Super was using for my tasks--didn't share that need.

The above transfer of folders can be accomplished in this way:

1. Click on--
Start/
Control Panel/
System (in Classic View)/
Advanced/
Environmental Variables.

2. "Edit" the TEMP and TMP variables appropriately, in both the "User variables"
section and the "System Variables" section.

I used super in the past for a wile and it was OK. Tried recently again, but encountered some problems. The settings sometime don't allow for default/original video source values, so you are forced to use the drop down values. The program also has installed its own codec libraries and has replaced some of the installed ones in PC. Some conversions started to crash. At the end, I couldn't close the application!!! After multiple install/uninstall/restart process I had to give up. Too buggy and aggressive (the website is a mess). Fortunately, there are better freeware alternatives there.

I checked in here to see if perhaps the authors of Super had corrected their malicious installation practices. I note that yet another person posted a comment (subsequent to my April comments) that once you have installed the latest version, you can't go back to previous versions. Notwithstanding the rant by (I assume) someone connected with Super, it's axiomatic that all programs should enable users to cleanly uninstall them, without leaving obscure registry flags, or other hidden corruptions of the local system designed to limit their ability to drop back to an earlier release. The fact that this has been reported by multiple people posting reviews here, is sufficient to lead me to distrust this software. Apropos the allegations of bias against Super, I used it for quite a few years, and considered it a very valuable tool all that time. It was only when I consulted these reviews and found others reporting anomalies in it's behavior that concerned me that I opted to stop using it. If the authors think they have a right to prevent me from dropping back to an earlier version, it leads me to question what other liberties they might choose to take with my system, hence my conclusion that it is unsafe to install their products.

Fortunately, after dropping Super, I found Any Video Converter (Free), which has a superb, very clean and easy to use GUI, as well as a very sophisticated way of providing intelligent default conversion settings, while leaving the user the option of tweaking them precisely to suit special needs. One of the problems with Super has always been that with so many configuration options, some combinations don't work, or may violate standards. AVC anticipates some of those (mono audio inputs to outputs requiring stereo for example) and performs a smart conversion when necessary. Since I haven't used Super for 8 months, I don't know if they have similar features now or not, but I'm unwilling to even give it a test run given yet another report that their installation process tampers with the local system. I have no connection with AVC, other than as a very appreciative user of a very well engineered product. If anyone is interested in doing a comparison, it can be found here:

Having some issues since the update. I frequently re-encode fraps videos to mkv containers selecting h264/avc with aac audio. since the update, the issue i am having is the audio portion. it does not allow me to select 48000hz with 6 channels even though the pop-up info bar shows that as the option. this is also the same option that i have been selection without any issues until now. it will only allow me to select 6 channels at 44000hz. If i select ac3, i can select 6@48hz, however the audio of the encode sounds like the transformers transmission. any help would be appreciated in the for of a solution or another application. thanks.

I have used this tool over several versions with mixed results. I usually use it as a last resort. It expects to be in the middle of the screen no matter what and will move to center every time one changes an option. The options are well laid out and there are a great selection of settings. It has a great Properties window to show the file specs - very useful. It's a tossup whether a given mix of setting will produce a good file or bomb, but I guess that's to be expected, given the many video and audio codecs in use today. I have gotten burned many times when I changed one setting and other settings changed without notice. One has to review every option in the window before starting conversion, or unnoticed option changes may give an undesired result.

When I updated to build 36, it seems the subtitle feature (to put subtitles in AVI files) is no longer implemented. When I tried (many times, with variations) to go back to build 35 or 33, they would no longer run, though they seemed to install OK. I assume the author does not want users to go back to an earlier version.

My favorite encoder player, easy to use very fast and unlike many other encoders, it accepts all kinds of inputs and is frequently updated to continuously add great features although it is a freeware.
for "cosmotopper" claiming it's a malware and spreading the bad-mouth about this great application and confirming never using it again, why would you really bother to continue to post repeatedly in here (Posted April 05, 2009 by cosmotopper.) and (Posted April 13, 2009 by cosmotopper.) if really this freeware is the last thing you care about.
If you really don't care about it, simply forget it and find yourself some other application.
Unless, you have a specific reason, or a specific target to discredit SUPER and try desperately to promote some other application.
SUPER has been around since 2005, before all these new Windows GUI multimedia encoders start to appear whether as freeware or as commercial applications.
Do you really think you are the unique smarthead to detect a malware while more than 10 million users are still happily using it.
I am not going to mention Google search where erightsoft is listed in about 900 links, I would only talk about YouTube where happy users provide more than 180 links promoting SUPER

Are they all wrong? do you think none of them has ever heard of an Anti-Vir?

My decision to stop using this program was based on two things: first, after version 32 (and several years of having used this program successfully) it began to behave very erratically (inexplicably long startup delays, apparently unable to detect multiple instances of itself, very sloppy uninstall). Second, a very intrusive and peculiar upgrade process which never provided a simple update button, but instead required you to go through a long series of promotional screens and click on links that appeared to be download links, but turned out to be more promotional verbiage etc.

Whenever I encounter a company that misleads you on it's website, and forces you to visit it's website when there's no reason to, it undermines my trust in the company. If, in addition to those issues, they have somehow blocked the option of reverting back to a previous version of the program (as other people rating the software have said on this website), as far as I'm concerned it's malware, no matter what other good things it offers.

That's a subjective view, based on objective realities. If your comfortable with the latest releases, it does provide a very extensive range of conversion options, albeit with a very confusing user interface.

I converted a few videos using Super and the results were decent. However, you don't have more control over the encode: no ability to do 2 pass encoding, you can't use CBR vs VBR, and you can't access the advanced settings for the codecs like h.264 and DivX.

Basic but good.

One of my favorite converters, but one thing seems to be missing, at least I can't find it. The ability to shut down the computer after a conversion. Am I missing something?

cosmotopper (yes, I'm old enough to know who he is as well as Neil and the Kirbys):
So, you "strongly suspect" but "never bothered to check" and you're willing to bad-mouth an excellent, FREE program? I "suspect" it is a very good program, with great functionality. It can convert to more files than I have seen in any other software. No, it does not have a pretty gui and has a bit of a leaning curve, but it is not that difficult learn to do a basic convert. It also has a ton of tweaks if one wants to bother to use it properly, but the defaults will do a good job. All-in-all it's an excellent, Free software. And did I mention it is FREE?

I stopped using Super in November of 2008. I have always been suspicious of this program, even though it does have a broad base of useful features, some of which work quite well. When I installed version 33 (I believe, could have been later), there was so much unexplained activity going on my Vista machine, I uninstalled it and decided to stop using it. The marketers of this program have an 'infomercial mentality', and require you to jump through hoops just to find the download link. I never bothered to check, but I strongly suspect they engage in all sorts of mischief snooping around a system during the inexplicably long startup process. It's too bad, since the core functionality of this program is very good, although the user-interface appears to have been designed by someone with a disordered mind.

Downloaded and ran program. Interface looks nice seems easy to use. It is pretty much click and go. Two problems I had are strictly related to my application usage:
1) There is no CRF (const quality) setting for h264 encodes.
2) Output file destination was the Progam File directory on my C:\ drive which is small and will not tolerate the 20GB files I need to generate when encoding HD-DVD to h.264.

There is probably a configuration option somewhere to deal with #2 above, but I couldn't find it in the 15 minutes that I was poking around for it.

I cannot comment on encoding speed or compatibility of the encodes with my PS3 since I couldn't let the encoding finish.

Add CRF for h.264 encoding and I will defintiely try it again.

One of the best converting programs I have ever used, and I've used about 30 different programs, so I should know.

Super vast selection of containers and codecs, and other features. This converter is a god! I love it. It has so many great features and codecs and it even chooses some options for u when u import a video clip and select ur container.

I would definitly 100 freakin percent reccomend this converter to anyone looking for a great converter that's free!

I like the idea of super, but compared to many of the other cheap software packages out there, it isn't as user friendly. Errors and exceptions should be handled by the app and not by the user. This error correcting requires quite a bit of work however. If the designer would release the source code for the app, others wouldn't mistrust it so much, and the app would become something better.

For a *complete* uninstall listing (PDF) on a clean winxp sp2 machine of super 2008.33, you can use this http://rapidshare.com/files/158582431/Super_2008.33_Installation_Log.zip

It was created with AShampoo Uninstaller 3, so the uninstall scripts will work with that application.

Just remember, that the files/reg entries installed by super may be used by other applications that you want to keep after super is uninstalled.

Thanks again and again for this wonderful freeware. I had a query about xbox 360 so went to the forum board of erighsoft they gave me great hints and promised to add a special profile for m2ts on xbox. super works great on my vistan, it plays and encode every single file to tons of formats with no hassle. i recommend it to every beginner seeking a fast straight forward encoding solution.
if i may suggest a hint to "gonwk" who posted on February 11, 2008 and October 27, 2008 and using vista 64. super does not support 64 bits, it is outlined on their FAQ and on their main webpage, you need to check out the minimum requirements:
"At least 1800 MHz Intel® Pentium4 processor or equivalent. (64-bit CPU or OS support is NOT guaranteed)" besides, you seem always repeating "if they are listening.." this is not their website, if you want them to listen to you you need first to address them on their forum board...

I was all excited about this New Version ... may be eRight has fixed the Vista Crashing problem!!! Well, I ran one Test Clip conversion from .mpg clip to AVI with XviD codec and A-OK. But any other tries after that continually gave me CRASHES. Also, the darn program INCORRECTLY reports my Laptop's Specs ... says that I have an only a 1.0GHz CPU ... when an Intel T5750 is clearly a 2.0GHZ CPU and reports my 4GB RAM as only 1.9GB ... and flags my laptop as not set up to run SUPER.

The only version of SUPER ever ran A-OK for me on my desktop with XP PRO was Version 19. But as the other Reviewer indicated eRight has put in some "DEEP" program that no matter how many times you uninstall the 200833 or any other version past Version 19 it remembers it and WON'T ALLOW a clean NEW install. Now I am not a Software Guru ... but to me that sounds like eRight is not playing FAIR or SAFE! If they are able to BLOCK us from rolling back to Older Version then is it Safe to say that their prgram might even have SPYWARE in it.

I doubt eRight even gives a hoot about our comments ... as it is evident from their Progress in Newer Versions! But if they are listening ... PLEASE, PLEASE have a CLEAN UNINSTALL program.

This progrsam should get a 0 or 1 or MAX a 2 ... basically STINKS to high heaven even though is FREE! G1:)

This used to be the best program that I had for converting but now with the new version it is the worst. I can't even get it to run and have read many others having the same problem! I wish that I would have never upgraded it and unfortunately now that I did I can't seem to get any old versions to work :( Thanks a lot Erightsoft for taking a fine program and f@#$ing it up!

Sadly the last few versions of Super (31 to 33) have, as far as I'm concerned, gone downhill again (see two earlier comments below). None of the above versions can convert my .ts radio recordings from my Humax 9200T DVB-T PVR to mp3, and this latest version once again takes quite a long time to appear on the screen. Back to using 2008.30 for me.

I can put up with the freaky gui - you've just got to remember to right-click to bring up the menu - but the hoops the author makes you go through on the website just to download the latest version is really starting to get on my bits! Don't get me wrong, it's a good program and really fantastic value :), and it will certainly remain in my video toolbox for odd little jobs, but I wouldn't use it everyday.

I have been using this and AutoGK almost exclusively for 1 year now. I find the GUI intuitive and the existing functionality works quite well. I have three problems though
1. What other have said about the uninstall leaving many files.
2. It is hard to control the output on the aspects quality/filesize. There is no way to see source framerate and what impacts a choosen framrate till have on quality and filesize.
3. My biggest issue though and the reason I'm trying every other software out there right now is that they don't support DVD subtitles. You can choose VOB as source but not whole DVD (with several VOB and subtitles) as source like with for instance AutoGK where you choose the IFO file as source.

I've used this software many times, and the results can be summed up very easily 25% of the time it works, and converts the video 75% of the time, it says it can't. Doesn't say why, just doesn't. I don't even bother with it anymore, because if I've tried other softare and it doesn't work, then I know this won't through experience. I wouldn't recommend it.

I wouldn't trade super for any other encoder.
This one supports a huge variety of input formats and works like a charm to encode files into my iphone. I select the apple - ipod profile with the new adapted 480x320 video scale so I can encode realmedia, mpegs, mkv and flv files directly to my iphone giving an excellent quality.

I have used super on my old winxp with great success, and now i am using Norton Internet Security 2008 never had any security issue.

BTW, for the previous poster, have checked their FAQ

Beware of what Super C do to your system!!!

As people mentioned in this malware Security Forums
http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?s=57 ... entry13209

A lot of things SUPER © did pretty much what a malware would do.

Two things combine to make this “look” like malware .

First it removes next to nothing that it adds to windows and system 32 when you uninstall the program. At the very most their uninstaller removed 10% of this software and leaving all those hidden/read only DLLs behind.

Next a lot of these files are hidden from the user and many also have no version info.

And like people mentioned earlier and in the malware forum, those hidden/READ ONLY DLLs can make your system unstable and could break other programs that use those same DLLs.

There is something odd about the h.264 encoding (to MP4 or MOV). I change the bitrate but the file size stays much the same. A 768kbps encoded file is 44Mb, At 384kbps it is 38.5Mb. The same video at 85kbps and with no audio is 32.5Mb! It has been like this for some time. No such problem when using DivX as the codec.

Apart for this, Super is an awesome tool.

This new version seems to address my moans of the last couple of versions (see post below). It's not only much quicker to start but now checks the drive where the TEMP environment variable points to rather than just assuming that it's drive C:. I've also been able to convert a .ts file (radio recording from my Humax DVB-T PVR) to a .MP3 which the last couple of versions wouldn't. SUPER has just gotten a whole lot better again.

One of the best tools, maybe THE best. I mainly use it for 3 purposes
1/encode downloaded YouTube FLVs to play them on my iPone.
2/encode a huge number of MKV files into the DVD compliant format (stunning quality).
3/download many 'rtsp' Media Streams to encode them on my iPone.
this last feature obviously requires an Internet connection, there is no other means to download rtsp streams with SUPER without Internet!

never had any issue with SUPER, while many other applications won't work correctly on my Vista but this is another story.

encoding speed is so great, maybe the previous poster suffers from speed due to his/her OS which is stated as "Other". The faq is very clear on this issue
http://www.erightsoft.com/faqt.html#Q022

It didn't cost me a cent but I gave a small donation as the authors deserve lot of encouragements for their work. They have answered to my suggestion on their forum board when I requested them to implement a streamable H264 option. They have provided a sample MP4 file with streamable H264 for my evaluation and even sent me a beta executable file.

It is unfair not to greatly appreciate such a freeware.

Mar 12, 2008 Version: 2008.build.25 OS: Vista Ease of use: 8/10 Functionality: 10/10 Value for money: 10/10 Overall: 10/10

The claims are at least partly true; this program actually does do conversions where others fail. If, that is, you are prepared to wait. There is no way I would use this program as other than a last resort. It takes ages to pick through the counterintuitive options and verify that it seems to be configured to do what you want. Feedback is very limited and the multi-pass progress bar is useless. SUPER redefines the word "slow"

My main gripes are:

1. Speed. It is excruciatingly slow. I mean S_S_S-L-L-L-O-O-O-W-W-W
2. 2-Pass XviD. This essential feature of XviD is not supported. Why?
3. Maddening UI. I don't mind different, but it's just so irritating.
4. The link to the website starts up IE. What if (like me) you don't have IE? It should start your default browser. Doesn't M$ already excessively dictate what we do?

As noted elsewhere, the program seems to be overly interested in using your internet connection. I'm not comfortable with programs that do this.

The makers of SUPER seem anxious to give it away. Why is that? Might they be using it to make some bucks? (why else would it want to use your internet connection?)

My advice would be to rewrite it from the ground up, with speed in mind. While you're at it, you could implement an intuitive and friendly UI, and some highly useful features, like 2-pass XviD. Then it would be something to crow about.

I was all excited when I saw that SUPER has a new version "2008 Build 25" since the last version that I had was "2007 Build 23". Well at least version 2007.23 would come up EVENTHOUGH it always takes a while for the Splash screen to pop up. And now I am getting "I/O Error 103" which I never got before. And the darn program is Slow as dickens ... but at least is a freeware. The 2008.25 will NOT even initialize ... so, I assume it tries to log to internet to send or recieve some data (not sure ... just guessing). Anytime a program needs to communicate back and forth so it can run ... it gets an automatic ZERO from me. I hope creators of SUPER will read this and do something about it.

Neither of the 2008 versions will convert .ts files (radio recordings from my Humax 9200t Freeview PVR) to .mp3 whereas the previous versions did without any trouble. Also, SUPER now expects at least 20Gb free on drive C: despite the facts that a) it's not installed on drive C:, b) most of the programs installed on my PC aren't on drive C:, c) my system temorary folders aren't on drive C: and d) my swap file isn't on drive C:. In these two areas at least, these latest versions seem to be heading in the wrong direction.

I tried to use this tool several times in the last coupl eyears to convert an unprotected WMV file to DVD compliant VOB, but this tool just can't do it. It converts, but resulting VOB almost immediatley has out of sync audio. Video quality is cleaner than what ConvertXDVD can do, though. I would give my right arm (I'm left handed) for someone to produce a step-by-step guide on converting a WMV full-length movie to DVD compliant MPEG-2. I've tried dozens and none do it well. ConvertXDVD will make a nice 1-movie DVD (any more and quality gets real bad), but its like someone put up a dirty piece of glass in front of people's faces. The tool is not for a noob either. One should do a little research on video terms and conversions before using this tool. Its not that intuitive.

SUPER needs to be available in non-installer format! (standalone or archived)

I have my codecs setup the way I want them (CCCP-project.net) and I don't want any "all in one" or anything else for that matter scattering files in MY system directories or anywhere outside of ONE subdirectory in program files!!

I'd rather not have to capture its install in VMware but oh well.. the tools super fronts for do not 'install'; they unpack. :(

Hi,
Super is a really cool application. But there is one thing I would love it to do as well. That is, after selecting the options one need, generate the command-line parameters nescessary to run it in ffmpeg instead. I need to run command-line batch jobs, so I won't be using the GUI, but it would help alot for this purpose.

Is it any particular reason that they were "hidden"???

Can anyone give a logical explanation ???

The problem with not being able to see the entire SUPER window is usually because the program wants to be run at 800x600 or higher (unfortunately). If you're running below that, set your desktop to 800x600 or higher, and then *reboot* (necessary) before attempting to run SUPER again.

Worked decently enough for the tasks I've given it, although I haven't tried using it under Vista, yet.

I use this tool a whole lot for making DVDs and play 'em on my standalone player.
I wanted to be fair with this totally awesome tool, mostly as a reaction
to the previous post of Relayerman.
this tool has a whole bunch of "presets or templates" as shown in here:
http://www.erightsoft.com/snaps/images/super-container.gif
in this case you need to select the "vob DVD Compliant" output container.
as for being "Not intuitive at all", please read the FAQ related to DVD creation:
http://www.erightsoft.com/faqt.html#Q032

I've been using this tool at home and at work (with other collegues) for
about 2 years. not only i rated it 10/10 but i would say it has no equivalent
to create iPod files or DVDs or to convert Youtube flv files..

Aug 28, 2007 Version: v2007.b.23 OS: Vista Ease of use: 10/10 Functionality: 10/10 Value for money: 10/10 Overall: 10/10

The appeal of this tool is that it does it all and its free. However, after trying to use it several times I found that its usefullness is equal to the experience of the user. This tool is not for newbies as it assumes you know all the terminlogy and all the different codec names and what they do.

As far as actually getting results, my experience is mixed. It could not handle certain FLV to MPEG conversions while other tools did. In fact, converting to MPEG-2 for DVD is quite buggy and slllooowwww. Some MPEG-2 files made were not usable in DVd authoring programs. It wasn't until i figured out you don't want to make MPEG-2, you want to make DVD-compatible file. Not intuitive at all.

The interface is OK if you know what you're doing, but presets or templates would make this tool much better. Yes, the programming is a bit shoddy as you can't resize the window, the progress bar is worthless, etc.

I kept the tool, but I only use it if no other tool in my arsenal works.

In response to rgs_uk issues,

As gll99 indicated a right click anywhere on the gui gives a list of options that you can use to configure the program. One of these options can be used to disable the Check for latest SUPER Update.

I have used the last 4 versions of SUPER over the last year or two on a PC that has no internet access and never had a problem starting the program or running it.

In fact the PC I use is below the minimum required specs as outlined in the FAQ. I use a 1GHz PIII processor and 384MB RAM

(The minimum requirement stated on the website is: 'At least 1800 MHz Intel® Pentium4 processor or equivalent & -512MB of RAM or more'.

I have been able to perform all sorts of conversions on files up to about 1GB in size (never tried a file bigger than that).

@rgs_uk,
Just to comment on your previous post,
I won't say anything about the site because I haven't gone there in a while but to help future downloaders, just use the "Mirror" link at Videohelp. It's a straight download so it must be hosted on this site. Beats fishing around the author's site if finding the download link is as difficult as you say. There is also a link to update the software within the "Super" application if you right click most everywhere within the program window.

I've just used this frontend GUI software a few times and after picking and poking and right clicking I managed to figure things out without too much help but then I've used these encoders before with other frontends.

To the author,
Keeps up the good work this is a good tool that will only get better.

I agree with rgs_uk that you should change the warning message on startup when the software finds a new updated version, although mine still loads even if I block internet access.

Probably the best all-round free encoder out there.

But I really dislike the constant nagging to upgrade to the latest version because the older veerion installed 'might crash crash at any time' what rubbish... Plus the fact that the software won't start up unless it has net access through the firewall.

The website is one of the most horrible and confusing I have ever come across (and I'm a web developer). The visitor has to search through several pages of text to try and find the download links. I'm sure many less-web-aware people never manage to find the download link.

Quite good converter. Handles pretty much all the vodep formats I can think of and it's pretty easy to use. Unfortunately it's still not compatible with Vista (conversion always fails). Hope they will soon fix this though.

Free, easy and hastle free to install and to use. I have just downloaded, installed & used this software in under 4 minutes using my "older" P4 2.2GHz PC. As a first timer in video conversion & trying to get an FLV file from a variety of video formats, this software is very very impresive. And to cap it it's free! I may have problems with more complex tasks later, but as a 1st impression, it is great.

Thank you guys, you saved my day!

to the people saying you can't see the radio buttons & other minor complaints your obviously too lazy to play around with it, all i had to do was reset my resolution & close & restart Super & the buttons were there. Just remember, this is a FREE app & its awesome, even if i had to pay for it i would & i am a tightass if ever there was one. This app is way faster than anything else i've used, including the ones i had to pay for. Ok its not for everyone, but its free for gods sake, if you had to fork out $500 for it then i could understand the complaints.

IT'S FAST!

Plus supports just about every format you can think of.

I like the quick video info box that gives you width and height as well as bitrate, fps and other pertinent info.

Plus it's FREE. Bravo!

Great bit of kit, and has never let me down

If it wasnt for the progress bar that isnt really a progress bar, this would get 10, but due to the fact 9.5 isnt an option, I will give it 10 anyway, the fact its freeware makes it even better

In short, it is the bollocks

SUPER has serious installation issues. Build #19 doesn't display the buttons at the foot of the screen on a 15" monitor whilst build #22 transferred by use of a usb stick (downloaded on to another computer) doesn't install at all. Uninstalling build #22 works but reinstallation of build #19 doesn't work. The window cannot be resized and continually snaps to the centre. I will continue to use Winff to convert Flv to Mpg. Thanks for the try but you could do better.

I can't give SUPER 10's across the board, despite it's versatility. There is plenty going for this app and it's an essential part of my toolkit but at the same time there are enough glaring annoyances to second-guess it when deciding whether or not to use it on a project. Why does it snap to the center of the screen after every single click? What's with all of the radio buttons? How about more pull-down menus. And why not let us re-install older versions if we think the latest ain't the greatest? People are prone to not use the product at all if they can't use the version that works best for them. eRightSoft...are you listening?

While autogk is great for converting DVD's to Xvids for my portable Media Player (Creative Zen Vision W), in these days of Video podcasts and other sources vids from the net, it isn't enough.

Enter Super Video Converter, a freeware utility that comes out of no-where to do many things better than a lot of pricier alternatives.

While I can't speak on every format, is has converted most of what I've thrown at it into Xvid to play back well on my PVP. The quality is not amazing (not as good if you were doing it yourself with specific tools/utilities) but for the speed and ease of use, the quality is more than acceptable. (I'm often resizing down for a smaller screen anyhow).

There is only one downside to this program, and it can be a rather big one. Super is a front end for a myriad of utilities that actually do the work in the background. Meaning that when you install Super it puts a lot of other stuff on the computer. If you are someone who is fairly heavy into Audio/Video on the computer, this can mess with existing programs. Especially with codecs and such that get installed. When I install super video, it will interfere with AutoGK, it does over-write newer programs with older ones (eg. Avisynth), and on my personal system, it corrupts WMV and MPG playback.

If your an average user, this probably is a non issue, and this program will be a godsend. To someone who does a bit more, it's a bit of a pain. I've had to stop using it, because on my system/setup, with what I have installed, it just doesn't play nicely.

But it's free, so if it works for you great, if it doesn't, well it didn't cost you anything to find out.

Aggies

Kudos to the developers of this app for listening to the people!! I am on record previously in this thread because I had several issues with previous builds. The latest build is much more stable and cool additions like iPod Hi-Res AVC presets put it ahead of much of it's competition. It handles Avisynth Scripts better and though the Codecs seem to be limited to 1-Pass the output quality is still good. SUPER Indeed!!

Great program! Let me share a story. My wife and I went to see Rocky 6 at the movies. We really liked it... but she ahd never seen Rocky 1 and wanted to see it. My friend had Rocky 1 on DIVX, but my DVD player is a bit older than most and doesn't play DIVX format. I had been using SUPER to conver some AVI clips to MPEG's and decided to give SUPER a whirl at encoding the DIVX to MPEG. Anyhow when the process was done, I played the created MPEG through Media Player and the output looked awesome. The input DIVX was 701 MB and the output MPEG was 803 MB's. I deciced to use Sonic MY DVD 5.0 Deluxe to make a DVD folder out of the MPEG and was expecting Sonic to do the usual and transcode the beautiful MPEG to a DVD that won't fit on one DVD5 disk. To my great suprise Sonci went righ to work on rendering the project and skipped over transcoding! MY DVD 5.0 LOVED the MPEG that super created. I ended up with a VOB style 2.0 Hour DVD that was less than 1 gb in size that played flawlessy on my Sony DVD plater!!! Great video quality!!! I was shocked! I have been trying for years to find a video source that Sonic My DVD 5.0 Deluxe liked and didn't feel like it had to mess with it! I cyphered and found out the input codecs for the Rocky DIVX, then I started on a project. My wife loves Fiddler on the Roof. It is a 3 hr movie and we have the wide screen edition. She hates wide screen on our old square TV. I took Fiddler on the roof and used Gordian Knot to turn the movie into a DIVX AVI and ran the AVI through SUPER and turned Fiddler into a full screen version and it only used 2.5g's on the DVD5 disk!!!!! The ouput looks great!!!! No skips - no blocks - perfect audio sync. I took the same DIVX and processed it through AVI2DVD using all of the different codecs and I ended up with a MPEG that Sonic didn't like and transcoded the video to a whopping 8.7g DVD disk. I used TMPEGenc to demultiplex the AVI2DVD's so I could use DVDauthorGUI to render the DVD (i have great success with this method) Anyhow all the DVD's that I created with AVI2DVD looked okay on my DVD player, but did not come close to the quality that SUPER created. NOW DO YOU SEE WHY SUPER IS SO GREAT. I'm telling you, If I could package my DIVX to SUPER to DVD process in a package, it would blow DVDShrink right out of the water! I managed to take an 8.7 gb movies and shrink it to 2.5g's !!!!

This program is awesome, It is the fastest video converter that I've seen yet. so far it has converted everything that I've put into it, with no problems.

Make sure that you have the codecs updated(for the video formats) that you are converting from and too.

For other having trouble with audio out of sync, you might need to defrag your computer once a month. when I started to defrag mine once a month the audio sync problems went away. Also get you a program like norton utilites or system mechanic(which I recommend) and run it. Let it repair and fix problems on your computer and you will find that the vidseo conveters and programs will work better.

Anyway like I said I highly recommend this program to everyone who wants and easy video converter to Use.

Good Luck!!!

Great tool. Can convert effortlessly between every format you can think of. Can't see the problem that certain people are having- bordering on the paranoid in the post below! If you're looking for something to convert .flv files, as I was, this is one you want. I've yet to try most of the other formats, but those I have tried (mpeg-avi; avi-mpeg; rm-avi) have converted flawlessly. Congrats to the authors and a big thank you.

What a complete waste of my time. I downloaded and installed this piece of junk that promised the moon and the stars, and it's absolute trash.

First impression: Flakey drop down menus. Insists on repositioning itself in the MIDDLE of your screen ALL THE TIME.

Functionality: Completely devoid of useful function, so far as I can tell. I set it to transcode a .flv file to mpeg-4 format. We're only talking about a 11mb file here. Half an hour later it's ostensibly still crunching on the file, and I don't even see so much as a temporary work file being created anywhere on the system. The progress indicator, if that's what it was, doesn't tell you anything so useful as percentage of file transcoded or anything, it's just a useless little bargraph that keeps cycling.

After uninstalling this junk, I'm going to have to do a complete virus/trojan scan, adware, and malware scan. It's more likely to me that that's what this was, a harmful hoax, than any sort of useful software.

Not recommended to anyone, not even my enemies.

I have been using Super for more than 3 months to convert files to AVI, VCD and lately dvd compliant. It's excellent ...free or otherwise. I would have rated it 10 for ease of use if there is some help on choosing the correct combination of encoders. But it's free, thank you for it. The only glitch that I had run into was that some encoded vcd files ( 1 out of 50 or so) needed to be re-encoded by Nero before burning it. Can't imagine why since the properties of the files seemed to be the same as others.

I did spend some time reading about the software from forums and other internet sources, that helped too.

A mostly excellent tool, but it does have a few drawbacks. It hogs a ton of resources,it encodes avi to mpeg at too low a bitrate despite manually setting the bitrate much higher, and the resulting encodes take too long for the resulting output quality. Which depending on the output format can be below par, regardless of the high quality of the source file. Still,it's very versitile, the price is right, and it gets the job done whatever the file. Future versions should be even better.

I surely agree that Super has tons of features and handles huge amount of video formats. It is so easy to use that you can't miss it. the interface gives you great flexibility for setting changes and the output can fit to just any cell phone or portable device or even home DVD players. Those who are complaining or severly discrediting Super are simply having problems on their own PCs or that their system doesn't meet the minimum requirements to install Super. Amongst our team none of has had any problem installing or using Super and ontop of all it is free.

Super simply works, and given the really huge number of ways video can be encoded, is the simplest, often the only way to easily convert or get access to the content. There are times when a video file is so out-of-spec, or perhaps just plain odd, that Super can’t handle it, but in those cases you’ll probably have problems no matter what software you use.

Using Super is very straightforward, though it might take first time users a minute or two to realize you have to right-click for the menus. And figuring out the best settings for a video can take more than one try -- this is due to the video, not Super.

Flash video can be especially difficult when you have no idea of the fps or anything else. Super will handle Flash video with an original fps of 10 – 15, converting it to 25, 29.97, or 30 fps if you want, but you might have to change (time stretch/compress) the new audio to match the video for good sync. Again I don’t think this is Super’s fault, but a result of the way the original was encoded and packaged.

Super itself doesn’t seem to have any huge impact on CPU or other resources – encoding no matter how you do it does take some horsepower, and Super is just an interface after all. Some formats and/or sizes require more than others, and you’ll find this regardless the software you use.

Super does go online, and I like to clear the IE cache etc. after using it.

I haven’t seen Super itself causing any problems for Windows or Windows media handling, which doesn’t mean pre-existing problems won’t show up using Super. Setup.ini in your Super folder lists the files installed. Version conflicts are always possible, and I’d guess for example that a newer version of x264.exe in the system path (i.e. …windows\system32) might cause a problem.

In case of problems can’t imagine it’d be that much work to troubleshoot, and if you don’t want to bother, uninstall is only a button click away. :?P Worst case after all is losing the time it took to download and install.

Easy to use......if it worked properly.

Someone called this program "the dogs bollocks". I would just say it's bollocks.

I tried this on the basis of it being incredibly simple to use. Well the layout is simple enough, just boxes to check or uncheck... but not only did the program greedily hog a ton of resources, it didn't work. I sat there and watched whilst it encoded the file. Then the "encoding" text dissapeared, and there was no encoded file anywhere to be found.

Super? Er,no. Anything but. It's a piece of rubbish. useless.

I have tried using this program 2 times on separate occasions ... and each time I end up REMOVING it from my computer. The program "if" it works it would be great ... because it is all you want under one program BUT ... the darn program never fully works ...
- The preview never works.
- It crashes my other "Applications" such as DVDShrink.
- Duuring installation it gives me False Warnings ... if a program already has been installed then either pass it over or if your pacakaage is newer installl that.
... with all it's problem for me ... Thanks God it has never given me the Blue Screen of Death.
Thanks!

I have had flash video converted to 3gp for my sony ericson and into VCD for dvd player playback, converted to VCD (via vcd tools to mpeg) and play on my dvd player.Converted WMV and burnt to CDr to play on a phillips DVD player, its a wicked little progam and definately worth the Dogs B's label if your machine will run it and u want easy as cake conversion.

I put it on my older 500Mghz machine and it refused to run tho.

Any Brits reading this will understand what this comment means:

This program is the Dogs Bollocks.

Which translates as "rather good". It converts anything that you can play in a Media Player. I had real problems with converting Canon MJPG MP4 AVIs to MPEG. Even with Codecs installed and them playing perfectly all s/w used seemed to use its own way of decoding before encoding so I got black screens with sound. There is a nice tick box on this allowing you to in effect use the same routines your Media Player does and then all works fine. There is SO much in the way of features here.

The only possible criticism is the UI, which is probably understandable complicated cos of all the things you can tweak.

"Rather good" !!!

As mentioned by many others, it doesn't work well with cygwin and put hidden dll in your windows directory.

As mentioned by someone in their own Super forum....
================
- Ruins your cygwin installation, by installing an old cygwin1.dll in WINDOWS/System32. They also install this .dll as a system file so you can't see it unless that is turned on in your folder options. Cygwin re-install notices this rogue .dll, but can't erase it. This is an appalling programming practice. There has to be a way to use cygwin.dll without screwing up the lives of cygwin users.

Worse still, uninstall leaves the rogue hidden cygwin.dll still there! C'mon guys. Super is a... super program... surely you know better than this.
===================

There are quite a few free program use Cygwin under the cover so if you can't use other programs after install Super, then may be caused by whatever Super installed.

SUPER.....(Not So) I really, really hoped this software would work for me as it is so popular on this site, I've downloaded it three times over various versions and given it a fair chance but I just can't get it to work with any stability. First I attempted some test clips using XVid, every single one had terrible A/V Sync isues. I tried unchecking "Directshow" and the results were no better, The source clips encoded flawlessly in Nero Recode, MPEG Streamclip, MeGUI & VirtualDub. Secondly I fed SUPER a valid AVS Script to try it's H.264(x264)functionality, after 2 attempts with different settings the file crashed during encoding at approximately 75%. Lastly on a few occasions when trying to launch SUPER the Hourglass would appear indefinitely and I would have to kill the machine to restart. I run several other Conversion Softs with no issues, My machine has no Codec conflicts and is regularly maintained. This software has an intuitive GUI and offers almost every Video Conversion possibility, Unfortunately in this case it just won't deliver!!

Awesome encoder, converter! You can even encode to H.264-AVC1, which you normally buy for $99! My only gripes are it doesn't convert wmv well, and my camera videos are out of sync (mov. files). I use Rad Video tools and STOIK 2 freeware to supplement its inadequecies, but I have looked around and not many payware programs meet up to its abilities. How many converters can convert vob. to anything else! And it makes animated gifs out of your video clips! Unbelievable!

This is the most amazing conversion tool i have ever seen. It is truly an all in one convertor.
The best part it is free and i hope it remains free.(on of the their softwares is a paid one).
The quality is superb and doesnt crash/hang. It has so many features. I have yet to use.
I converted load of flv form you tube to vcds. Not directly thought as i the crop/pad tool doesnt seem to get activated no matter what.
So i converted it to divx(at good speed with very good quality) and then in virtual dub did the padding and then converted to mpeg with tmpeg. I am still skeptikal about any other encoder for mpeg because i dread the non-compliant warning from nero when making vcds.
I converted h.264 with aac!!!!! Finally a software that is a truly 1 click x.264 with aac convertor.
Only problem is i cannot figure out how to encode in 2/3 pass.
I need to encode 3 pass as some of the files i just want to cut them down to size and 3 pass works great for quality with bitrate below 500 i use 350 and get pretty decent quality.
But i fail to do than in super. searched like crazy for the option of 3 pass encodeing.
I am off to the videohelp forums to post a query as i dont see any support of forum for super.
If they fix these little issues then i am sure this will be all you will ever need to encode.

Installed and worked first time. It even sets up the directory structure which you can copy to your PSP memory card. You can setu up a list of files to be converted by drag and drop. It wasn't too happy to drag and drop multiple file though, just one at a time.

When converting from RMVB, see my comments 2 months ago. The audio out of sync. mainly due to selection of options. In North America or 60Hz NTSC countries, the frame rate should be set 29.97. In 50Hz PAL countries, the frame rate should be set at 25. When there are encoding trouble results, just be patient and play around with all those settings and you are good to go.

Jul 27, 2006 Version: 2006.19 OS: WinXP Ease of use: 9/10 Functionality: 10/10 Value for money: 10/10 Overall: 9/10

Great functionality and has a lot of potential but when I tried a RMVB to MPEG 2 conversion the audio was way out of sync. Also Winamp played it for a minute and stopped and VLC couldn't play it. Only KMplayer could play it ok by detecting the audio problem and adjusting for the delay.
I converted an avi to MPEG 2 and that worked ok but the video quality was not very good.

Awesome program! very easy to use, much better than many payable video softs that I regret buying.
I am mainly using this great freeware to convert my WMV and RM files to AVI H264 but also to MP4 format for my PSP.
Thank you erightsoft. It is definitely a Must have.

I installed this to convert .wmv files and so far have gotten this message every time, when you "click" to "read more" you just get a generic list of possible problems, this program needs an error log, apparently it is working for some, for me it has been useless.

OK I finally managed to download a copy of the installation package that works.
I must say that from what I've seen so far I am very impressed with this piece of software. It really does do what it says it does and it does it for free. You really couldn't ask for more.

Excellent piece of software. My only complaint is that if you have a cygwin installation, SUPER renders it useless. Behind the scenes, SUPER copies an older version of cygwin1.dll to the system32 folder. Since the system32 folder is first in the %PATH%, cygwin tries to use this older version. I resolve this personally by going to the system32 folder, and removing it manually. If the developers of SUPER happen to read this message, please relocate the cygwin1.dll file to someplace outside of the PATH. For more information, see: http://www.khngai.com/blog/index.php?/archives/15 ... ygwin.html

For me, the Battle for Most Useful Pound-for-Pound Conversion Tool is now over. After a reasonable amount of patience, this baby does all that she says she'll do. How long have I ben missing out? Yeah, the bogus progress bar and clunky GUI is a little annoying, more than tolerable (especially considering the money). After a weekend, I've uninstalled almost all of my other other A/V conversion tools (except Virtual Dub). Now... if I figure out to use it to capture and convert a few certain new-fangled .flv movies, these peole have a contributor in me, come payday.

A small hint to " shaynew" who poaste before me:
You gave the program a low Overall score 4, although it's your

Cheers ;)

I have myself converted many RealMedia files into MP4 and MPEGII.
Unlike the previous post, I can confirm that Real Player DOES NOT
necessarily need to be installed. It looks like the user of the previous post has used the "Use DirectShow" option, in this case you obviously need the RealMedia drivers to work in conjunction with DirectShow. In all cases, SUPER can convert any RealMedia file to different format without the DirectShow Option and without Real Player installed.
That's said, i would like to thank all the erightsoft team for a great free wonderful software.

May 30, 2006 Version: 2006.build.19 OS: WinXP Ease of use: 10/10 Functionality: 10/10 Value for money: 10/10 Overall: 10/10

I converted some .RM and .RMVB files to MPEGII. Here are what I have discovered:
1. Real Player must be installed.
2. Multiple files (source and output) conversions should be done on HDD only.
3. Check output files for complete conversion. Many times that a file had been done incomplete without errors or warning.
4. File names and subdirectory should be in English or there will be errors.
I will try other format conversions. So far this software is very good and if there is a user guide for each type of conversion, it will be perfect!

I am not really convinced by this tool. The results are not overwhelming. E.g. the result video size doesn't seem to make a difference if I convert an AVI into Flash. Now I just tried to covert a .rm first into an XviD, then into a DivX. Video and audio are out of sych in both results, BSPlayer crashes when trying to play that video.

The GUI is a catastophe and after first install it constantly tried to access the Internet. The icons have been installed everywhere, even though I have chosen NOT to have them on my desktop.

Since it's free, I guess it's OK, but I am not really convinced if it is not spyware.

Absolutely incredible tool! I have been able to replace a whole suite of conversion apps with this one program, and it's free! I agree with prior comment that the internet connection request appears to be for automatic update checks. This is a must-have tool for any multimedia maven.

When I tried to play a certain streaming link rstp://verg....
it told me that I need to connect to the Internet. I think this is normal and quite logical as how would i play a stream without internet. my feeling is that if "Super" is requesting internet or connecting to the internet it is harmless and legitimate for its operation.
besides, it plays the internet stream like a treat. and on top of all i saved the .rm file on my disk which i encoded later to avi.
great , really great.

I think it accesses the internet to look for new versions.

On another subject, I dowloaded the latest version last night and am having an annoying problem. The drop-down menus are empty unless I first right-click as if to load a file. After right clicking, if I click in the drop-down window the choices suddenly appear.

Warning: I had to download the program twice. The first time I got a virus warning when installing, then had to scan my whole system before going to the site to dowload the program again.

Apr 27, 2006 Version: v2006.build.19 OS: WinXP Ease of use: 7/10 Functionality: 10/10 Value for money: 10/10 Overall: 8/10

Alrighty, as someone else stated, this program attemps to access the internet for some reason. I've not looked into it any more, but I do wonder why it needs to, espcially considering it works just fine without accessing the internet!

Besides that, the program is great. The layout is a little different, but it all works well. I've really only tried one conversion so far(OGM to MPEG2/DVD) and that seems to work great. I did get a skip in the video, so I'm going to try again later when I can just let my computer render without me using it.

Speaking of rendering, it's a tad annoying how the progress bar works. It just keeps repeating so you never know how far along you actually are. About all you can do is go outside the program and play the file(which is probably why it skipped :P)

Anyway, all in all, it's a great converter. Definetly reccomended...but I also reccomend having some firewall software block it ;)

Apr 26, 2006 Version: v2006.build.17 OS: WinXP Ease of use: 8/10 Functionality: 10/10 Value for money: 10/10 Overall: 9/10

Fantastic little utility!

The user interface is a little odd... not the usual File>Open type dialogs, but it works brilliantly on all those difficult movie formats and converts quickly and painlessly across the variuos standards.

As a minus - my Firewall has picked up attempts by the program to browse my network and to access the internet - without being invited to, and with the website claiming it is simply a GUI running command line aps... none of which have any business looking about on the net or on my other machines.

I'll happily continue to use this prog, but will always be firewalled or disconnected first!

simply amazing.
It is so easy to use so I rank it 10.
Being a Freeware, the only Value for money would obviously be 10.
Function wise, I made large conversion of those FLV I am
gettin from YouTube directly to my iPod, it works marvelous.
I can play the FLV directly on Super as well..
I also use it to encode my old RealMedia to MP4, never disappointed. so again I rank 10.
On SUPER's forum, they are announcing the New version with
AC3 6 channel support, it is gonna be great

Now, I've only used this for rmvb to avi conversions, but it is the only thing I've found that works. If you are getting all pissed about the rmvb thing, give SUPER a shot! I think I'll give my normal apps a rest & try a few conversions with this for dvd, vcd, etc.

Please disregard my ratings for this product. The reason being is that after 4 times trying to install it, it hangs. CPU usage hits 100%. Even rebooted and turned other apps off. So i wasnt able to install this. A shame though as i heard this was good too. Will keep trying to install nonetheless.

I have no idea if this software works or not. I am unable to complete a project because the program puts its temporary work files in the operators TEMP directory. My system has 206GB of free space but the C: drive has only 2.51GB of free space. The C: drive being used for the system files plus program files (it’s a dual boot computer). This means that if I want to use this program I will need to re partition my hard drive. No thanks. In 22 years of owning desk top computers I’ve never run into this problem.

Shortly after starting a 16GB HDTV video project my system informed me that I have a full C: drive. It seems that you can't fit 16GB of video into 2.51GB of free space. Additionally, SUPER will not let you designate an output file name or directory. I guess its back to the Gordian Knot for .264/AVC file conversions.

As confirmed by their tech support, SUPER will NOT work on Win 98SE machine:

"support@erightsoft.com writes: SUPER(C) is written using some codes that cannot be interpreted by the version of Windows you are using." [Win 98SE]

When I tried to install SUPER on my Win 98SE PC, I received the following popup error message which showed the minimum configuration:

Windows 98 SP1
IE 5.0
Display 800 x 600 x15
Mem Size 0

My machine exceeds all these minimums and I mistakenly assumed Win 98SE would exceed the "Windows 98 SP1" minimum.

Great program!!! Works great converting movies for the pocketpc. Must have!

One change I would like to see the author add would be the option to encode multiple files to one directory without asking for each file. That way you can encode say 8 vob's and can step away from the computer and let it do its thing without having to answer 8 times where you want to put the file.

I have installed this program in two computers at home

In one if I check directX box it encodes fine

In the other IF I check direct X box it doesn't encode

video component. I get only the audio

However, if I leave it unchecked it transcodes fine

I don't know which active X file one of my computers is missing

I don't know what advantage is there if it can be

encoded with the direct X checked

Anyhow it seems to work fine.

This tool is a must have!!!
Like eRightSoft states on their site "SUPER © does for FREE what other encoders CAN'T do for money."
Before I discovered this very useful tool I was using River Past Video Cleaner and what a mistake I made purchasing it.I like to keep my software updated as I'm sure a lot of you do,but I found annoying bugs appearing that weren't even present in old versions.Crap support as well.Steer well clear of their soft.
SUPER,I have found supports many formats for conversion and I haven't found any annoying bugs.As a bonus it has a very neat, user friendly interface.
Come on people dont pay for other junk when SUPER is FREE and "WORKS" very well indeed.

Simply amazing, second to none.
all rendered mp4 file with H264 are playable on both my IPOD and my PC using quicktm.
I used megui for long time (x264 gui), but was never able to get one single working H264 file! I use to spend hours with those useless avs scripts with no success. Tried the command line of x264 with forum discussion with other people that I finally found that were simply trying to learn like me!!
With SUPER, for the first time ever I was able to define myself the H264 profile and level. it works like a swiss watch, its marvelous.

SUPER (c) 1.809 is a MUST HAVE.
have been trying a dozen, they bug they crash and none is free.
Just try this 1, drop any file realmedia rmvb or windows wmv, or even any avi(depending on used codecs), mpg or vob.
now select an output type like 3gp, amr(to make Nokiaphone rings), aac(nokia playable songs), swf(flash playable), mp3(extract songs from video clips) mp4..
see for yourself the quality, if you know any other software that can do all this for free, just name it if you can.

Now wait and see if rm and rmvb gets into project , would be nice touch ...

Very good but CRIPPLED.
Stops encoding after 1 minute ( or approx. 11.5 Mb ).
This is Freeware and is not supported by the developper, so it's impossible to give feedback or ascertain faults.

My advice - find something else.
