Unfortunately, ProjectX has now probably come to the end of it life as more and more TV stations are using H.264 AVC in their Transport Streams. I have been using it a lot over the last 7 years also and found it great for cutting out beginnings, ads and endings to mpeg-2 TS files.

I did edit the X.ini file as stated below with:

OptionPanel.enableHDDemux=1

SubtitlePanel.enableHDSub=1

Unfortunately, this is pretty much useless. With an MPEG-4/H.264 TS file, picture decoding is not possible and there is no preview. That is the end of cutting.

It does demux a TS file with H.264 AVC to a video file with a dot 264 extension and audio dot ac3 in my case. This could be raw H.264 video as 3 players I tried could not play it. Again useless.

For the 10% of mpeg-2 TS files that seem to be transmitted now, I may still use it, but it's time to move on and find something else.

Review by wsc4 on Mar 17, 2019 Version: 0.91.0.10 portable OS: WinXP 64-bit Ease of use: 8/10 Functionality: 8/10 Value for money: 10/10 Overall: 8/10

I've been using this to edit and demux digital TV files for about 7 years now and absolutely love it. Works everytime and cleans up transmission errors. I wish I read German and I did do a course years ago in technical German so I sort of can get the gist of some text anyhow there is always Chrome. Today I was looking at the German forum site and found this item on H264. I don't have any TS files with H264 video so I can't test this workaround.

If you edit the X.ini file found within the ProjectX install file to add the following

OptionPanel.enableHDDemux=1

SubtitlePanel.enableHDSub=1

Apparently you can then demux and do a 1:1 copy ONLY and no preview, so no editing

For setting ProjectX up for Australian TV visit http://www.openwiz.org/wiki/ProjectX (not always working btw!)

MY OLD PROBLEM : I did eventually get this to work. It was conflicting with another program

MY RATINGS : I would give this application 9-10 across the board, except it includes no documentation and there are English ones on the web site (the site is also in German).

A *VERY* large issue is the total lack of HD support, given that HD DVB video streams, now now make up over 2/3 of digital broadcasts.

Most of the time this tool is used as An editor to remove commercials and past multiple TS streams together into a single output file (or demuxed files) and that is a lot less useful these days without HD support.

From all I hear this is a wonderful program, and the only one that deal well with DVB and telnet subtitles. I managed to get it to DEMUX which it did quite well. However, that is the only thing it could do.

I tried to find out why however there appears to be no documentation of any kind that is in ENGLISH and the site (http://forum.dvbtechnics.info/) which has the user forums is an ALL GERMAN web site. Had it not been for my High School German (in 1979 and quite poor now from lack of use) I would not have managed to even create an account there, as the google web site translation tool (for web pages) does not work with that site very well (it does not move from page to page when translation the site, or believe you are even logged in).

** PROBLEM ONE - Can't see the video in any file (with rare unexplained exceptions)

The program runs and comes up - however - in my copy of PROJECTX (brand new from SourceForge) when I bring the program up and load a file, all I can do is DEMUX. I cannot edit. No matter what file I load I cannot PREVIEW or edit (the software always tells me - next to the lower right edge of where the video ought to appear that "Preview is not available".

So I just can't see any of the video in order to try to create chapters or cuts (not that there is any documentation telling me how to do this anyway).

I do not have trouble in general with video software. I can use VLC fine (for playing and re-encoding to other formats) however VLC does not honor teletext when converting files. You can;'t use it to produce an H.264 with teletext, and you also cannot edit using it.

** TRYING TO MAKE THINGS WORK

Well of course I Tried "Help" on the menu. It is not very useful. Why? Well, there are some good reasons.

*) The "What's new" link gives me a blank page.
*) The link for "NAQs & FAQs" link yields information under "Hints" that is not useful (it is inaccurate) - for instance - there is no such thing as a set of menu choices that leads a person to : record -> Project X -> ifoedit -> DVD.

There is no "RECORD" option anywhere in any of the menus; not unless they mean a "RECORD" button (with no text on it, or even a pop-up 'hint'). Perhaps it is somewhere buried deep in the program - or perhaps (more likely) this information refers to a version of PROJECTX that does not exist for windows, or to a version that is very very old).

So ... being used to working my way through annoying / undocumented software, I tried looking for a HELP file, but HELP gives me a list of links!!!

There is no included HELP file, or a set of HTML files for various languages (very odd) or even an online manual that is not in German. The site listed under help (www.lucike.info) is (again) in GERMAN and the links for documentation are for PROJECTS version 0.81.6. The online documentation is in German (only).

I want to use this program to EDIT (keep/remove) the correct portions of my TS DVB files and then DEMUX them so I can create a REMUXED version that includes the teletext SUBTITLES (without any extra junk in the file). I can DEMUX a file, but I cannot edit it at all. All I get (before and after loading a files is "Preview is not Available".

There is no english documentation there are no ENGLISH forums where I can ask question other than the ones at (forum.videolan.org) and this web site abuses the various anti-spam lists and uses them to block all IP addresses from accessing the forums if they are on even one of their many lists. Most of these anti=spam sites state flatly that it is ABUSE of the sites database to use it to block access to web sites (including forums) and they strongly discourage this. After all, if everyone did that, nobody could even get any help with a virus/botnet infection. This is why it is considered abuse of the databases, especially given that none of the database sites are perfect, and a few are known for even blocking entire ranges of IP address (even an entire ISP - indefinitely) based on a single complaint or (possible...or in error) detection.

Incidentally, my ISP is the largest satellite ISP for Asia Pacific and its entire IP range is blocked by one of the sites (supposedly for spam abuse about 7 years ago - however there is no way to KNOW the actual origin of any piece of spam because an email is just a text file and even the tracking data can be 'spoofed').

Any news of H264 support for ProjectX? It would make life so much simpler.

Years I use ProjectX and never disappointed me. Waiting for HD version; here out it's a jungle with HD. :)

This is a very useful for demuxing or remuxing mpeg-2 transport streams. The program worked well with my DVB recordings, and it allows the user to cut/remove unwanted parts of the stream, then remux it (creates a m2v and mp2 file), or demux it to mpeg. The portable version compiles all of the components, which was appreciated. This program has trouble cutting interlaced mpeg-2 streams (it didn't want to cut my 1080i DVB recordings) however worked well cutting the 720p recorded DVB streams. I recommend you download this as it works extremely well with fixing and re/demuxing mpeg-2 streams.

This is a wonderful program but is only suitable for advanced users, newbies should not bother.

Demuxing MPEG-2 PS files captured with a DVB-S application (cutting commercials along the way) was smooth, very fast and stable.

I propose that you make better program. As for me, this is incredible useful program, the best one.
Author of that program didn’t know about each user of ProjectX.
I hope in future this program could have possibility work with HD streams.
My rating is 10.

I don't see how this program could possible have a 9 out of 10 rating. It's the most horrible program I have ever used. It has, without a doubt, one of the worst conceived user interfaces known to man. Take my opinion with a grain of salt, because I am not as versed in the science and art of MPEG2 transport streams as some of the others who have rated it, and also because I did not give it a thorough workout. Partly because I couldn't figure out how to use it or what it was supposed to do in the first place, and partly because I couldn't uninstall it from my system fast enough. So noob though I may be when it comes to MPEG2 TS, the fact remains I gave it a 1 score in every category only because I couldn't give it a 0 (zero). In my opinion, even "value for money" rates a 0 and the fact that it's free doesn't change that opinion.

Just needed to update my previous comment about ProjectX and TMPGEnc.

Found that the original mpg file was the problem and had GOPs with more than 15 frames which is not DVD compliant. So the fact that the demuxed files that TMPGEnc created did not work in Encore was not TMPGEnc's fault at all. In fact, TMPGEnc demuxed a different bad mpg file which had perfect audio/video sync in Encore while all other demultiplexers including ProjectX had audio/video sync problem, which of course were not their fault either. The software that created the original mpg files is the problem.

So ProjectX and TMPGEnc are both great demultiplexers.
Just needed to set the record straight.

I love this tool! This tool demultipled a problem mpg file to m2v and mp2 which worked in Adobe Encore. It said it found one error in the mpg file and apparently fixed it because the elementary streams now work in Encore 1.01.

Tried TMPGEnc Plus first (purchased it darn it) but even that well known tool could not demux the problem mpg file to allow the m2v file to work in Encore. Also tried demux which was not able to demux the problem mpg file to useable form for Encore 1.01.

The interface is still confusing to me and I just barely got it to demux but I plan to spend some time to figure out how to use this software to its maximum potential. It can do things that other software cannot.

Essential app for MPEG2 Transport Stream Processing. One of the few free apps which will allow you to convert TO Transport Stream format. An amazing number of options for processing your Mpeg video streams. The program is very good at ensuring proper audio/visual synchronization of processed files. If you have a TV capture card (especially the HDTV kind), you'll want this.

I'd give this app an "11" if I could. Download the compiled version from the download section so you don't have to install JAVA.

Very very very good tool indeed!

I personally use it for cutting commercials off my DVBT recordings - recorded by my Siemens M740 box.

ProjectX works very well, I was very surprised by its usability and namely performance (was a bit sceptic because of the underlying Java).

My procedure is something like this:

1) Having M740 connected via SAMBA proto & 100Mbps Ethernet to my Linux box => so aired DVB-T MPEGs (TS format) are stored right away on the target platform/box.

2) I use Cridical (cridical.exe) for exports of the M740 recording to a single *.ts file (a TS MPEG).

2.1) Note: Not calling PVAStrumento, just cridical.exe, and I select a "TS" export in Cridical. It is very fast (it's basically a merge of all M740 recordings/files related to a single show).

2.2) Note: I run cridical.exe via Wine - without problems.

3) Now, having a TS MPEG (*.ts) file, ProjectX comes into play. I simply open a file in the ProjectX GUI, and then select Videocuts/Specials. Then I mark the commercials out, and from the main screen I select the "demux" and press the "Go" button.

After a while, the ProjectX tells you it's done. Now you have demuxed audio and video streams (*.mpa, *.m2v).

Commercials free, of course.

4) Using mplex from mjpegtools, I create a DVD-compliant MPEG file, suitable for DVD authoring - like this:

$ mplex -f 8 -o final.mpg video.m2v video.mpa

This is also very quick - no encoding here.

5) This final MPG file is the usable in DVDauthor, or can be used for input into other processing (like MPEG4 transcoding via transcode/mencoder or whatever you wish).

So the summary is:

YES! Try this tool! It's worth installing it.

Can't believe no one has commented on this wonderful tool. It has now saved me twice when absolutely nothing else seemed to do the job. I had a transport stream which, though it would play back normally, when demuxed would come out of sync, no matter what I tried. Well, that seems to be the specialty of this little app: demuxing and keeping in sync. Perfect!

Sometime later I was struggled with a VOB set which had been constructed from what were originally 4 separate titles. I wanted to demux the audio and video for reauthoring, but the latter 3 titles always came out of sync. This was true even though every demuxing tool I tried indicated *no* audio delay. Well, I didn't think ProjectX worked on VOB files but thought I'd try it for a lark.

Ya know what? **PROJECT X WILL DEMUX VOB FILES!!** It will demux EVERYTHING from a VOB set and will keep it all in perfect sync!

Fantastic! You gotta try this :-)
