Jonathan's Official DVD 2 SVCD Guide

DISCLAIMER: This Guide is for NTSC DVD's. Any other experimentations used with these setting are of you own personal choice. Good luck!

You will need the following programs
1) CladDVD 2.0
2) DVD2AVI 1.74
3) TMPGEnc 1.2a (old version)
4) Nero Burning ROM 5.0 or Higher
5) Jon's 60 mins SVCD(NTSCFilm) Template

STEP1: CladDVD
After installing CladDVD, open program and select source drive (Drive letter of DVD). Once this is done, choose the destination of where you would like the files to go to. Then push the "Select DVD Movie" button. Your movie VOB's will appear in the white box. Make sure in the "Options" it says "Don't Make Multi Region", "Skip Multi Angles" (if not a multi angle movie Ex. Matrix is multi angle) and "Don't Remove Macrovision". Save New Options and "Start Selected Operation"..then wait...

STEP2: DVD2AVI
After installing DVD2AVI 1.74, open program and go to the "Help" tab. Make sure the "VFAPI Plugin" is checked. Now go to to "File", and find your VOB's..click on the first VOB, and it will select the rest. Make sure it selected them in number order, then press OK. The only setting you have to change here is one. Go to the "Video" tab. Then go down to Field Operation and check "Forced Film". When all this is done, go to "File" again, and "Save Project" (NOTE: Do not "Save AVI")..sit back and wait. You will end up with a .d2v file and a .Wav file (Video and Audio files).

NOTE: When DVD2AVI is processing your files, notice what the Aspect Ratio is of the DVD. It will be needed Later!!! (Ex. - 16:9, 4:3, Etc.)

STEP3: TMPEGEnc
After installing TMPEGEnc 1.2a, open program. There will be 3 slots at the bottom..in the "Video Source", put your .d2v file. In the "Audio Source", put your .Wav file. Make sure that your output is going to a drive that has free space. Now for my personal touch. Push the "Load" button. This will bring you files called "Templates" (Basic Setups). Browse for where you downloaded my template "Jons 60 Min SVCD (NTSCFilm).mcf" and open it. Push the "Configure" button. Leave all the settings in the "Video" tab alone. Go to the "Advanced" tab. Remember the Aspect Ratio of the DVD? Enter it in the "Source Aspect Ratio". Now double click on the "Source Frame Range" filter. This allows you to set where your movie will start and end. In our case we want to do 1/2 and 1/2, so slide the bar to the end of the movie (before credits begin) and Notice the total time up top. Devide it in 2 and find out where to start and end. HINT: on the second half, you start where you ended on the 1st! Now click "OK" and "OK" again. You are ready! Press "Encode" and wait..

STEP4: BURNING W/ NERO
Select "Super Video CD". In the "Video" tab, uncheck the "Create Standard Compliant CD". Go to the "File Options" tab. Select "ISO Level 2", and make sure the Character set is "ISO 9660". Go to the "Volume Descriptor" tab. Give your Volume Label a new name (Ex. MIB1 *means the 1st half of Men In Black*). Go to the "Burn" tab, and make sure the speed is no higher than 4X. Uncheck "Determine Maximum Speed" and uncheck "Simulation". Now click on "NEW". In the File Browser, on the right, find your .MPG movie file you created and drag it to the empty box on the bottom left. After the file is checked, click the "Write Process" button on top and then "Write" your CD! Good Luck!!

***REMEMBER - A 74Min CD-R holds up to 740MB! Not 650MB..
