I've had nothing but problems since day one. Never works reliably via Firewire, but its the only Firewire I've got, so that may not be this drive. The first one I had would burn video to +/-R just fine, but coastered on data, & +/-RW wouldn't burn consistantly. The disk tray failed when I updated the firmware.

Sony replaced that one with a new unit - this unit burns +/-RW just fine, but -RW's aren't being read in a drive that did read disks from the first unit. +/-Rs burned on the new drive won't read in my stand-alone player.

I've never been able to read +RWs burned by either the first or second drive on my notebook's internal drive, which is rated for +RW playback.

I've tested disks burned by this drive on a QSI SBW-241 (Notebook Internal - rated for +/-RW read), and a Panasonic DVD-L50 (portable player, doesn't read RW)

I bought this burner about 3 weeks ago.
I only used the Sony DVD media to burn home movies so far.
- The Sony DMR47L1 (DVD-R) media worked like a charm, no problems when played back on the GE 1101P player I have.
- Also tried the DMW47L1 (DVD-RW) and those worked on more DVD players than mine.
- When I tried the DMR47L2 (DVD-R) which are the new bunch from Sony, none of them worked on my GE DVD player. So far I got 4/4 coasters. Some of them showed the menu and some didn't. Some played with pauses on the audio and picture, so those are a NO GO!
- Have yet to try, DPR47L1/DPW24L1 (DVD+R/+RW) to see.
