Got the IOMagic IDVDRW8D... is actually a BTC 1008im for $99 at Staples. Had problems getting it to work right. First problem was mine... I had my IDE controller set to PIO mode cause my old DVD Matushit 8538 needed it. I fixed that by changing to allow DMA mode, but drive still did not burn right. I upgraded to firmware 54 and it seems to have fixed the problem. The buffer in NERO 5.x now stays at 98% or higher, unlike the bouncing it was doing with firware 52. I will burn a few more and report back.

Got the BTC as part of the OM substitution deal for $80. The Khypermedia +R burned aok at 2x.

I have the BTC in a 1394 Pyro enclosure and it's working aok. Only problem is the firmware flash prg can't find the drive to update firmware. Is it worth updating to 54? Is there a workaround for external drives?

I bought this as a pacific digital mach 8 U30201. I have had no problems with this burner since purchasing at office max for $80 two weeks ago. I have burnt using shrink 3.1.2 and nero 6 on verbatim datalife plus dvd+rw 2.4x media and plays great in my zenith dvb312.

Pacific Digital Mach 8...rebagged BTC1008IM. Updated f/w to 054. Bought in Jan 04 have burned 20 or so movies using Fuji +R 2x (ricohjpnr00) that burned @ 2.4x, TDK-R 2x (TDK G02)that burned @ 2.4x, and Ritek G04 that burned @ 4x. Every disk plays perfect on my Apex 1500, Toshiba (PC) SD-M1502, and my PS2. For $80 you can't go wrong. Player has good build quality, quiet. No problems with this writer yet.
Software:
DVD Shrink 3.1.2
DVD2One 1.3
Nero 5.5.10.54

Bought a Pacific Digital Mach-8 (8X) Dual-Media burner in early January from OfficeMax for $80 which turns out to be a rebadged BTC DRW 1008IM. Came with 052 firmware and promptly updated to 054. Using Nero 6.3.0.2, burned with Memorex & Fuji (Ricoh JPNR01 4X DVD+R & Ricoh JPNW11 4X DVD+RW) without problem. Able to burn @ 4x on both media. Unit was packaged with Roxio 6 which was nothing but trouble, Nero works great!

Great deal for the price, do wish however it had greater media support for 8X.

I have burned several different brands of DVD-R and DVD+R with this drive without any problems. I am currently using firmware revision 54, but also used revision 52 with success.

Works well for me using Nero 6.3.0.2. Have also used DVDDecrypter to burn discs.

Bought a Pacific Digital 8X Dual-Media burner which turns out to be a rebadged BTC DRW 1008IM. Came with 0052 firmware and promptly updated to 0054. Using Nero 6.3.0.2, burned with RITEK G03's @ 2X. Burns fine. FAILS VERIFICATION @ ABOUT 85%. Tried again this time with simulation. SAME THING. I've owned a Pioneer A05 for over a year and never had this problem before.

This burner is going back to the store if it can't even burn to RITEK's correctly.
