Bought this at Office Max for 69 bucks. Installed it. Now I can't burn from I-Tunes nor will it burn a movie using DVD XCopy. Looks like I bought a piece of crap.

Got one of these, it's a BTC 1008.
No coasters with DVDXCOPY, but burns at 1x.
I'm trying Nero 6.0 tonight to try to burn faster.
I'm using Verbatim DVD+R 4X media.

I also bought mine from Office max for $79 with out rebate's and have been able to copy 5 4x + & - dvdr's without any problems. Roxio works good and has a nice dvd maker feature but I'd rather have Nero. Work perfect with dvd shrink 3.1 and nero for dvd copying. Haven't tried a 8x dvd yet.

For Pacific Digital Mach8 buyers:

If the serial number on the box starts with P, then it is a BTC 1008IM.

If the serial number starts with numbers then it is a LiteOn.
There is no need to open the box first.

I bought the drive at Staples and obtained a LiteOn drive in the box. After applying the latest firmware updates from LiteOn, proceeded to burn several Memorex 4x DVD+R blanks at 8X speed. Burnt a DVD in 8 minutes!
DVD+R is definitely more compatible than my old Pioneer DVD-R A03, as these DVD's worked on all the DVD players I have tried.
The LiteOn works great with Nero 6 Ultra.
Using DVDShrink 3.1.2 (free software) this drive will rip a DVD to the hard drive in less than 7 minutes!
Also burnt several CD's at 40x with not one coaster or an incompatible CD (tested on several different computers).
I highly recommend the LiteOn drive if you can find it.
I.e. Check inside the box before you buy.

I have had no problems with this burner since purchasing at office max for $80 two weeks ago. I have burnt using shrink 3.1.2 and nero 6 on verbatim datalife plus dvd+rw 2.4x media and plays just fine in my zenith dvb312.

This writer is great. I have burnt about 20 or so movies using TDK 2x(G02), Fuji 2x (richojpnr00) both at 2.4x, also burned Ritek g04 @4x. All turned out perfect and works in my Apex 1500, Toshiba sd-m1502, and ps2. For $80, can't go wrong!
Software used:
DVDShrink 3.1.2
DVD2One 1.3
Nero 5.5.10.54

Great drive!! burnt DVD+RW's & DVR+R's and played in my Apex-1500. Everything worked perfectly. Could not get Nero to work on it, had to use Roxio's Easy CD & DVD software supplied with the drive (no big deal!!)

Bought it for $79.99 at office max on 1/11/04 as a sub for magic spin.

I purchased MACH8 from Officemax for $79.99. They
had this product as a substitute for ioMagic MagicSpin
8X DVD burner that was on sale. However when i opened the
package the label on the drive indicates it is a BTC DRW10081M. Have not tested yet.

Not rating this one yet as I have yet to fully test everything. Picked this up on the same $80 deal at Office Max. Mine is a rebadged Lite-On 811S. Came with firmware HS06 & I flashed to HS0K. It burned Memorex 4X rated DVD+R at 8X with no problems. The movie works fine in my Pioneer player. So far everything seems good! I will be testing Memorex DVD-R next.

I got mine at OfficeMax for $80. The drive is LiteOn LDW-851S with GS08 firmware. It's the latest firmware according to LiteOn site. The drive was manufacturered on December 2003.

Bought at office max for $79 here in Ohio
It was the lite-on 811s also.
Sonic mydvd was the only software with it, and i could not flash the firmware on it. it said to contact the vender.
Anyway, it bunt memorex 4x +r and -r with no problem, but the green value disk, it would not even reckonize(sp) when i was done.

I bought this writer at Sam's Club for $149 with a $30 mail in rebate. It came with Roxio 6. I am a Nero fan so with current ASPI from Ahead it seems I can only burn at 2x!

Drive is made by BTC. I'm not sure of the model. I have backed up 3 DVD titles sofar without issue.

I also purchased mine at Office Depot for $79. (Are you in Ohio?) Since it was a replacement I did not have to send in rebates. I have had good luck with the drive using Memorex 4X DVD-R media both as data discs and DVD video. The only downside I have so far is the limited number of programs that support this drive. Many software packages just don't see it at all. So far, Roxio is the only reliable burning software I have found so far. No luck with NERO.

Came back to update my earlier post:
Burned a Fuji dvd+rw (2.4x)with no errors. Then I tried to update the rev to 054 using the live update and it worked just fine. The disc played perfect in my Apex 1500, Toshiba sd m1502 pc dvd, and my playstation2 v5. Tried burning to Fuji dvd+r (2.4x) and everything was perfect. Disk tray solid. Great burner so far. Don't care for the software. I use Dvd2One and Nero 5.5.10.54
Now to try different media....

I purchased the Pacific Digital Mach 8 at office max for $80. It was substituted for the magic spin. The label on mine is a BTC 1008 with rev 052 out of the box. Tried to update to 054 but it wouldn't do it. I'm burning as I write this so will let ya know how it turns out later.

i purchased MACH8 from Officemax for $79.99. They
had this product as a substitute for ioMagic MagicSpin
8X DVD burner that was on sale. However when i opened the
package there is no mention about LineOn. i was hoping i
got a liteOn 811S too, since the review was good. Did
anyone else buy MACH8 that is not LiteOn 811S

Just bought the Pacific Digital Mach-8 DVD Writer. The label on the drive indicates it is a LiteOn LDW-811S.
Will comment further after installation.

I purchased this one in Staples. I saw the manufacture as LITE-ON IT CORP (Model: LDW-811S) on the label of the drive. I do not know whether Pacific Digital is marketing this DVD with its name. Could any of you got this DVD?
