| I have this NEC 2500 DVD writer for a few months. In the beginning it burned OK but now these DVD+R's (Platinum) are going to have read problems. Secondly it burns not any more new DVDR's. They are destroyed immediately. As a check the same brand DVD has been burned on a Lite-on burner with no problems. I will return this burner to the shop. | Burns fine (my 4X DVDs at 2X). The only problem is I can't get it to read anything. Using DVD Shrink or DVD Decryptor they both come up with CRC errors. This is on original DVDs and copied ones. So I have to rip the files using another drive and burn them using this. It plays the films fine. It just won't copy them. Tried every firmware available and there has been no change. | So far this thing stinks. I can burn CDs OK, no problem. I was able to burn a Traxdata DVD+R, which didn't play on my Toshiba SD 210E, but I'm waiting for a friend to report back on if it works or not. Anyway, I'm trying DVD-R since I'm pretty sure the Toshiba has played those in the past. Both Fuji DVD-RW 2x (not on the recommended media list) and Verbatim DVD-R 4x (on the recommended list) give me an 'Unspecified Target Error' when burning a DVD with Nero Express 6.3. The NEC website is absolutely no help, since there are no firmware downloads nor driver downloads available there for this model. | Just got this player from NewEgg for $91.00 US. So far has burnt DVDs just great and has played back everything I've asked it too. Seems to work with all the programs I've asked it too and had no trouble with installation on my built AMD system. For the money it's a good buy. | Quiet, fast, and makes quality burns. This is it look no further. This device has absolutely no drawbacks. It writes at 8x with no sweat. I literally have to look at the light on the drive to see if its burning the dvd. It's silent. If you are looking for 8x media, consider (get) Samsung 4x 4.7gb DVD+R dvds. Amazing stuff. Its made by Tayo Yuden, arguably the best there is. And you dont have to pay the premium price. I got my 50pk at newegg.com for around $50. | Have had the 2500a for a month with no problems reading or writing any type of media cd or dvd. TDK 4X dvd+r burn at 6X. When 8X media is reasonable I'll give them a try and report back. | Recieved my new burner, couldn't get it to open(pissed) sent it back and got another. Burnt 2 DVD-R's and a DVD-RW (which wouldn't burn on my Toshiba SD-R5002)and all came out perfect using DVDXCOPY. The DVD-R's were two different kinds and both generic, the DVD-RW was a Memorex.I'm impressed by how quite and fast this little machine works. It's a must have. | This drive ROCKS! Picked it up for $92 at Newegg in a 24-hour sale early last week. Arrived in 3 days, hooked it up to a Compaq Presario 2800T laptop through the USB 2.0 port (using a Plumax high-speed external drive enclosure). I've only tried 2 kinds of media so far - some shit media that Newegg sells for $8 (but sent free as an "appreciate the order" gift by Newegg), and some FujiFilm 4x DVD+R disks (rated at up to 4x, but which the NEC burned at over 6x). All burned flawlessly at a great speed (although I expected some slowdown in burn speed for the external connection, so far, so good). Forget the Plextor and Lite-On, this drive freakin rocks! | I will give this drive a 1 becuase every disc I write at a speed faster than 24x will not read in any player I have. Some it won't even read itself. I have tried several types of media which are rated at 52x. So far the DVD's I do not have high speed DVD media. My guess is this thing will burn shitty dvds at high speed as well. | I purchased the NEC ND-2500A, had it for a day, this drive is excellent. I owned the Sony DRU500A which has been replaced by the 2500A. I recenly purchased some DVD+RW's 1 out of the 25 was faulty, well with the Sony DRU500A it was, just by chance i tried that faulty disk in the NEC ND-2500A and it worked perfectly, and i was about to throw that disk away. | Just bought the 2500a (Pacific Digital U-30213 Retail Box) at Staples for $100 AR (be careful, the Pacific Digital U-30201 is a Lite-On 811). At first it could only read DVD-Video at 2X and write 2X for a Ritek 4x DVD-R, even after it is flashed with Dangerous Brothers 1.06 firmware. Tried a few different media, the read/write rate was still at 2X/2X. Finally I flash it first with the one from 1.06 (20031219) http://forum.firmware-flash.com/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1740 then again with version Windows 1.06 http://tdb.rpc1.org/#ND2500A now I'm reading DVD-Video at 6X and writing at 4X (Ritek 4X DVD-R)! | just tried in an old pc 200 mhz with nero 6303,clone dvd,andvd ,t and they all work and take time in trancoding remuxing(depending on compression ), other wise takes around 15-20min to burn happly at 4x speed well done nec burn ritek(datasafe media)dvd and taiyo yuden cdr media and no coasters so far .well done nec ,and thanks to dvdrhelp to choose me this dvd writer ,thumbs up dvd help ,if this writer can run at such low pc (p1 200mhz) without coasters is very low noise (virtually nil) compared to yamaha f1 cdwriter (which sounds as if it was a helicopter when it starts to read or write )thanks to all of those who reveiwed here helped me a great deal for buying it.
