Bought this drive about a month ago and having a blast. Burned on TDK 2x, but bought some Khyphermedia 1x just to try because it was cheap. Looking into Ritek 4x. only one coaster so far because of image problem...the TDKs ran fine in my Toshiba SD2800...

After I burned a Disk with just data on a -RW with this drive should I be able to read that disk in a regular DVD-ROM Drive on my computer? Just curious...if so what do I need to read it. Any recommendations would be great. Using Firmware 1.21. JB

Had my drive for a week. Using 1.21 firmware. The dvd-rw that was included works great. I was able to burn some video to it and play it in my apex 1500. Verbatim DVD-R and Memorex DVD-R have worked great.

Well I did it. Picked it up at Staples (did not want to do the web order wait). Got the whole thing for $150 after rebates and credits. I installed it, updated firmware, loaded Sonic MyDVD and burned a quick one on the provided disk. Just for fun I re-wrote on the disk. Works great in my Mintek machine.

This is a super burner. Using DVD2One, DVDDecripter, RecordNowMax4.5, I have backed up numerous movie DVD's that play flawlessly on every stand-alone I have tried. Note: I only use Ritek 4x DVD-R or Pioneer 2x DVD-RW media and have not produced a single coaster so far. Stay away from crappy, cheap blanks and you should have similar happy results. Having paid only $129 AR makes this burner a best buy.

I've had this drive for about 2 weeks. I'm running a P4 1.6 GHz with Win98SE. This drive has performed flawlessly. I did install the pioneer firmware patch (1.21) before using. Additionally, I purchased 25 Accu DVD-R (ACU-DVDR4.7G-025) at about $.88 a piece. I've burned all but 4 without any problems. They play perfectly in my APEX-1500 DVD player. I'm very happy with this drive.

I've been having the same problem as Bob. When I burn DVD-R discs, the burned side is inconsistant and fuzzy at times. There seem to be 'rings' of misburned data. It looks like the laser is getting 'off-track' or something similar. I have tried burning data DVD-R's and video DVD-R's with the same results on both. I've tried using Nero 5.5.9.17, Nero Express (came with burner), MyDVD, no luck.

I've burned Hypermedia & Memorex DVD-R's with bad results for both. I can burn Memorex DVD-RW's just fine. Go figure.

I haven't has even 1 successful DVD-R burn. I'm going to try the TDK's next.

DVR-105 OEM firmware 1.0 Bought for $150 Staples 249.99-50IR-50MIR . I Do not use any of the software that came with the drive. Using Nero Full version 5.5.9.17, ASPI 4.6 and WinXP sp1 on a 2.4 P4 system. Drive is master on Secondary IDE with Pioneer DVD-ROM DVD-119 as slave. Bios set to both on UDMA2. The drive has been flawless with rima.com sample pack and the dvd-rw media disc that was included with the drive. They all burned at 1x. I bought some Verbatim 2x retail DVD-R and (G02) They burn at 2x and properly with full 4.6gb movie burns.

Did have problems with some retail Princo (VX) cello wrapped jewel cased 5pack box set. These burned at 1x but even 4gb movies would completely freeze at about 70 mins into the films on any dvd player or dvd-rom. So rima bulk princo was good but locally bought retail princo was crap.

I know its not the drive or my setup so its just plain bad batch of Princo. Other than that It's my first DVD burner .I have been wanting one for thelast 2 years now and the price was finally right.

I wish 4x media was cheaper but 30 - 60 mins is ok for me now until 4x media falls under $1.

I have had this drive for about a week. Disk that came with drive DVD-RW from Princo. Works Great. Bought some Memorex DVD-RW the other day. Was able to burn data to it but I can only read it in the Rewriter Drive itself as compared to the disk that came with drive which works in every device CPU DVD ROM, Daewoo DVD Player, Toshiba DVD Player and my XBOX.

I have not upgraded from Firmware Version 1.0 to Version 1.21. Everyone keep posting your experiences so we can figure out the best scenerios for this drive. Overall I'm ecstatic about the drive.

I bought this a little of a week ago. I burnt to the dvd-rw that came with the burner and it worked fine playing in my RCA 5240P dvd player.
I have had lots of trouble with the Memorex dvd-r media. It seems to burn but lags and locks up in my dvd player. I tried this with a downloaded movie and a copy of a dvd using DVDXCOPY.

I did use the Pioneer update to move my CenDyne from 1.00 to 1.21

Since it didn't come with DVD-R media, I had picked up a 3-pack of Memorex Media (UPC 34707 05510) to try. I burned three coasters. The burn pattern looked funny to me (smoky/foggy), and unlike anything I'd seen with my CDR/W stuff. Anyway, I thought it was a crappy drive.

Today I purchased some TDK media rated at 2X (UPC 20356 48069) sold in a 4-pack at CompUSA. It burned at the 2x speed, taking about 21 minutes to burn 1hr42min of video. It worked flawlessly in my PC, a laptop, and a PS2 (but not in my old Toshiba SD 3109 player (2-3 years old).

Here is a photograph that shows what the Memorex burn pattern looked like (disk on the right), and what the TDK pattern looked like (photo in middle). The left hand photo shows the CenDyne 4x box and what the media look like.

It doesn't look like this particular Memorex media works with the CenDyne/Pioneer DVR-105.

Got this like others at Office Max for $169. Have burned using the included DVD-RW disk and has burned perfectly. Bought some DVD-R's at the same time I bought the drive.

I did have some problems when I first started running Nero 5.5.10.0. All the DVD-RW I would burn would work fine with the DVD drive in my computer, but when I tried running the DVD on the Standalone DVD player (Apex AD1100W) I would get a "No Disc" indication on the player. After reading some user boards, found out the Nero 5.5.10.0 was having problems with DVD-R's and DVD-RW's. Reverted back to Nero 5.5.9.14 and everything ran fine. Just wanted to let everyone know if you are Running Nero. It is not the Drive but the Nero Program itself.

Have ordered 50 DVD-RW's and have burned almost my full box of DVD-R's. All run fine and run perfectly on the DVD Drive. This is a fantastic writer and and as everyone has mentioned, the drive is the Pioneer A05 drive.

Got the Cendyne drive (aka Pioneer 105) at Office Max for $169 after rebates. Burns perfect Playstation 2 backups. Couldn't ask for a better drive at such a low price!

I burned two out of two DVD-RW so far with no problems using Ulead DVD Movie Factory. I am very pleased with this drive. Got a great deal at Office Max a couple of weeks ago for $160.00 after rebates. I'll rate it a 10!

This is a Pioneer drive like the last post said.

I've written VCD, CD-R, SVCD, DVD-RW. All success, no problems. I haven't written a DVD-R yet because I don't have anything ready to do permanat yet.
