Very good at reading discs for tests. A disc burned by a Lite-On 20A1H and read back at 16x only scored a 78 where this drive can read that same disc at 16x with a 94 quality score. On the other hand its WOPC technology which is aimed to help lazer accuracy with the average disc doesn't work too well (using newest firmware BCIB). Burning good quality Taiyo Yuden 8x Valueline dvd-r the drive creates large amounts of errors towards the end of the disc, and even unreadable data that causes the disc to fail testing. However, with WOPC disabled through the QSuite tool, the burns have PIE error spikes towards the beginning and the quality score goes from 0 to 97. I think that if technology meant to improve actually degrades, then the product needs more work.

Installed without issue. Looks great nice shiney face. Firmware is newer than what is offered online. The BenQ firmware identifier can tell you all your drives firmwares. This thing has ate everything I tossed at it. Mutliple types of DVD-R and CD-R not a single coaster. Fast and QUITE. Did I say quite compared to my Lite-on. Great drive a bit faster than my NEC 3540a in areas and slower in some. Overall A great drive if it lasts like my NEC has I would say its a comparable drive across the board.

Good DVD writer. Burned everything without any problem, but I didn't burn bad media - only Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim. I really don't know how it will work with poor media. All media I burned play very well on my Pioneer DV-355 DVD player even DVD-RW and DVD+RW. I am going to try DVD-R DL also. I used Lightscribe and it was pretty well.

I goofed up. with a little help from BENQ customer service, the DW 1655 is working perfectly. Excellent results so far. I'm ordering another one.
Ignore my previous comments.

Defective. All play and no burn.Well, it burned, but nothing that would play on a DVD player. Returned product after speaking with the BENQ company.
Chinese made.

Worked out the box, burns good media very well, burns poor media well.

The drive also supports media scanning using Nero's CDDVDSpeed so you can see how well it likes the discs & if those discs are going to cause you problems later in life.

Highly reccomended.

I am still new to this, but I installed today and used for a while, burning one disc. Worked flawlessly. All of the settings will take me a while to master, so that I can increase burn speed, reliability, etc. At one point, I put in a disc that I had previously burned, and it froze the player up, to the point, where i had to reboot computer to get disc out. Hasn't happened again, but the burned disc doesn't play smoothly. Could be because I burned it on my last burner, or something else I did...

I bought it as a replacement to my slowly failing Pioneer DVR-109, and I'm impressed with the speed and quality of burns and tools provided. You can disable WOPC, booktype setting works out of the box, and 16X media actually burns at 16X unlike my previous burner.
