platinum dvd-rw 4x speed not compatible

Comments posted by litsjin from Netherlands, December 28, 2004. Rated this writer No rating.

Comes with cables, software, blank cd-r and dvd-r. Very nice drive. Based on Pioneer A06 drive. Burns just about any media you stick in it. Runs quietly and burns a FULL DVD movie in about 14 minutes. I cannot express how much I like this drive. I had two other off brand DVD burners and they just did not like the cheap media. You will not regret owning this drive. I had no problems setting this one up. I see no disadvantages either.

I had the Optowrite DD0201 and a DD0203 and they just did not like cheap media. This drive LOVES cheap media. I have burned about 70 DVDs so far and NO coasters. What a buy. You get basically the Pioneer drive for a bargain price. I use 4x media from http://www.Humphreymedia.com
and it works great with this writer. The "Mirror" Discs cost .74 each in 50 packs (Free Shipping too in U.S. )

I got this drive a few days ago, it's written cheap DVD+RW and DVD-R media as advertised right out of the box using the supplied software and Nero 6, and ripped no problem. Too early to rate, but looks very promising.

Bought this drive for 150 euro. Burned in excess of 100 DVD's so far without a single problem. Would recommend this over any other DVD recorders that i have owned.

This drive appears to be Pioneer A105, but with the upgrade provided from ASUS web site it is upgraded fully to same as what is known as Pioneer 106D. Excellent hardware for much less price (185$C - retail price).

Bought it three days ago...updated to new firmware right away...burnt about 10 dvd-r's of cheap media, Medianca and Princo which are both compatible with my Stand Alone Mustek dvd player...

Software package is kinda crappy...Ulead dvd movie factory 2 SE is slow and is prone to block...and haven't even bothered to test record now dx for cdr's...

Anyways recorder works great, writes 4,7Gb DVD-r in 15 minutes in Nero...and even burned an ISo image with Dvd derypter in 10Minutes Flat!!

Also tested it with blank cd-r's of cheap media too...and it writes at the announced 16x with no problems using easy cd & dvd creator 6...no problems there like other writers are known to have...(LG 4040b)

This writer was a perfect buy...and i bought it at 200€ here in portugal...best price in the country...

I do recommend this writer against other more expensive writers like pioneer 106 or LG-4040b unless you want dvd-ram...which it doesn't support...

I give it a 10 even in spite of crappy software package...use easy cd creator 6 for cdr's and nero 6 for DVD video

Ok, I have never tried this drive, just looked for the product on ASUS page... And, surprise, by downloading the bios update, on the xls file included, we can see that this drive IS the Pioneer DVR106D (or DVR-A06), the file included in the asus bios update is called DVR106D History.xls, and in the file we see some Pioneer related indications. :-) So, I suppose that this is a good piece of hardware! I'll buy it soon.
