This is an update to my original review.

After upgrading the Lite-On SOHW-1693S (X is removed as I moved it from USB enclosure to internal EIDE) - to firmware KS0B, the media was recognized and was able to perform full burns on 3 successive media at the rated speed of 4x. Read also seems to be no problem...

BUT - using Roxio, Nero or DVDDecrypter the writing pauses for 30-40 seconds after writing the lead-in. Also after writing about 2.5GB, burn proof kicks in as buffer levels drop to 0% - consistent on all three burns so far...and it can be noticed in the burn on the disc by a color shift in the burn shading.

So, I am not sure about cross drive or long term burn reliability. I am not sure how to test even.

Just wanted to update my intial comments.

Used the following: DVDDecrypter, Nero Express 6 & Roxio 6.0 Basic DVD Edition (OEM).

Should have checked earlier reviews on Starlogic/PRINCO - useless media. Could not get this recognized on NEC1300A with f/w 1.0B - until I upgraded the drive to herrie hacked 1.0C - got ONE out of 8 to complete burn when burning an IFO with DVDDecrypter (Roxio/Nero woudn't even start a burn after lead-in)- for the 'completed' DVD (3.8GB approx.) anything burned after the first 2 GB was unreadable on any drive/player. Also failed to burn on NEC3500AG (fw: 2.1A) at ANY speed. LITE-On 1693SX does not recognize the media at all.

Does not work on Sony DVP-NS715P
