Looking at my previous post I thought it was strange that the drive wouldnt work with the Datawrite Ritek 04/05 dye disks when the drive technically should. I took the drive firmware back to version 150E which is a nice easy process with the optorite drives. It will now burn these dvd-r at 4x no problem. So much for the updated 160E update that was supposed to improve compatibility.

Will not write at all on the optorite DD0405 with the latest firmware. It does pick up the disc, but only offers a 2x option. But fails with a Power Calibration error. The DD0405 drive is compatible with other ritek dye disks, so hopefully these disks will work on a forthcoming firmware update.

Had a few dvd done by a friend on these discs and they work great on everything. Even my LG 5000 DVD/VHS combo.

Its label 4x but it is acutally RitekG05 which means its probably capable of 8x. DVDInfoPro reports Media Id Code Speed =8.x 11080KBps. I never tried because my drive on do 4x.

My NEC 1300A started to burn at 2x (even it said it is burning at 4x) a while ago. After many attemps to reflash the firmware, I finally got it working at 4x using the NEC's release of 1.0B (DOS). Its a bit of hassle to do it in DOS but it works fine afterward.
