Burn errors are happening almost every time at speeds that I've tried 4x-16x on Pioneer DVR-112D. I would never expect Sony to sell such an unreliable product. Every other disc fails to burn but sometimes I'm lucky enough to get 3 in-a-row to work. What a waste of time! Thanks Sony! As if I have all kind of free time in and extra money in this bad economy!

Works fantastic for me, have burned nearly 300 so far this year with NO coasters: not one! This is the most-compatible DVD-R media still easily available in stores to use in older recorders. Burns smoothly on Pioneer DVR-710 PC drive, Pioneer 510, 520, 531, 540, 633, 640 recorders and JVC DR-MV5s recorder. Plays back on Windows, Mac and every DVD player I've tried. HOWEVER: does not burn on many Sony-brand PC burners! Odd. And check the wrapper to confirm Made in Taiwan before buying these, avoid the Made In Malaysia product- it is different and not nearly as good.

I USED to swear by Sony media as a close 2nd to Verbatim, but now it seems as if their media quality has gone the way of the rest of the company's quality. Granted, test results weren't as horrible on these as most other brands, BUT these discs will ONLY register as 4x compatibility in my Pioneer 111D that has been cross-flashed as a 111L (so I can bitset my +R discs). The packaging says that they are 16x discs. Prior Sony discs have been perfect for me, but it seems this year they've all turned to crap. Also, discs that have that James Bond promo packaging won't burn at the rated speed either. And a 50pk of Made in Taiwan discs that I just picked up at Office Depot are returning fairly poor test results in CD Speed, or they have a power calibration failure and won't burn in the first place. (The Verbatims I have left are still burning perfectly, so there's no chance it's a drive problem.) Anyway, no more Sony ANYTHING for me.

Average media at best. Bought this at OFfice Depot on sale $24.99 for 100 pack. This media code SONY16D1 is listed as supported at 20x in my Lite-On 20A1H. So far it's been less then spectacular at 20x. Even burning at 16X I get more PI errors than I would like. I may have to try going down to 8x or 12x in an effort to achieve better results.

Not the Taiyo Yudens one sees around sometimes, on the Sony label, but this cake of 50 is a bargain nonetheless.
The best name-brand media out there are the Verbatims, but if you can't get those, try the Sony ones, especially if you have finicky Zenith products.
I have burnt backups of dozens of my movies, without one hitch.
On sale at the time of writing at Best Buy, $12.99 per 50.

Could not Burn directly from Studio 9.4. Then tried to burn a basic data disc with NERO. Also would not work. I tried 5 discs, all the same. Then I tried one of my other DVD-R's and it worked just fine. These are going back to the store!

The x16 -R Taiwanese media doesn't burn as well as the x8 +R Japanese media, but Nero scans were good. A reliable alternative when Verbatim or Taiyo Yudens are not on sale.
