I agree with above comment: "every burn was glitched on the outer portion of the disc (last 15-20min)"
This appears to be very unreliable media (some batches perfect, some batches trash), maybe poor product that should not have got through quality control has been released. The media I bought came on 25 spindle, is 2x DVD-R and is not marked DataLife.

datalife 4.7gb dvd -r
bought a 25 pack worked great not a problem.
bought a 50 pack and wont play in apex dvd player or playstation2. Noticed that the difference between the 25 pack and the 50 pack is the thickness of the inner ring on the back of the disc which is just before the written data. The 50 pack has a thicker ring then the 25 pack that I had used with success.

Excellent media. All burns have been successful; no coasters. I only burn at 1x, though (just my preference to quality/integrity over speed.) Works on all my players.

DVD Identifier retrieved a slightly different media code from the two above. That might have something to do with clearing the 4-byte header, but I wouldn't know. Here's what it showed:

I have used these discs with Pioneer's A04 and A05. Amazingly, the disks always needed a firmware upgrade for the writer. With A05 @2x, I had bad results when reading back media written using FW 1.30 but good results when using FW 1.33. Similarly, my old A04 had problems with an old FW @2x, but good results with the latest FW 1.41.

Toast 5.2.1 - Tried burning at 1X and 2X. Bought two spindles at Office Depot. Have 4X capable DVR-105 (Apple SuperDrive). One spindle gave me about 75% success rate (25% failed), and another spindle was all coasters (burned fine, but failed on the verify.) Tried to verify by copying files off failed DVD-R, and yes, it had problems on several files on the DVD-R.

Burned some Memorex 1X DVD-R's that I bought at Wal-Green's just fine.

Bought a 15pk spindle at Office Depot for $30 and have so far burned 3 backups ranging from 3.75gb to 4.3gb. Everything has worked beautifully at 2x record and played back on my 2 settops without a hitch. My media code is slightly different (Replace the 'J' with a 'B') but the upc code is the same. Good media IMO.

Picked it up yesterday from Office Depot, burning a DVD backup now. Results as follows... flippin' perfect. Sounds to me like the other report was a case of a heat damage return. Somebody prolly bought the spindle, left it in the car, and then returned it. I've had that happen a few times. It really is best to ask for the spindle nearest the bottom of the pile. Burned great, no errors, same media code exactly. Not the best price in the world at $30 for a 15 pack spindle... but a nice reliable media.

Bought in a 15-disk spindle for $28.96. The packaging just says Verbatim DataLife (no "Plus" on it), but the disks themselves do have "DataLifePlus" on them. Color on bottom of disks is light purple.

These disks do not burn in my Sony DRU-500AX (firmware 2.0f), even though Sony claims that Verbatim disks manufactured after October 2002 will work.

I bought these disks at Office Depot near Dallas, Texas in May 2003. They said the disks arrived in March 2003. I guess Verbatim has changed disk manufacturers and Sony hasn't tested this batch.

You may also want to see my Media Report for Kypermedia DVD-R, which has basically the same media code!
