After testing more than 5 discs, I could hardly get the media to play at all on three players. Once, the DVD menu started after waiting a while. Usually, however, the players would just say "loading" forever.

Work flawlessly on my Benq burner at 12x. Ive had nerovision stop during the burn process twice...probably just a software error. No coasters in about 30 completed burns so far, using Nero and DVD Decrypter.

Have yet to use media. Have used MXL:RG02 media in the past, which will burn at 4x on my Lite-On LDW-811S. This media however is limited to 2x on the same drive (latest firmware installed). Extremely disapointing. If anyone can find me a hack to enable 4x burning I would appreciate it.

Kick ass discs- burns @ 12X on my pioneer 109 & 16X on my NEC 3520.-no problems.
These are Maxells "made in japan"!! not Taiwan (Ritek G05)-
When Maxell 1st switched over to 8X's- I bought a whole "crud load" of these when they were on sale for $40/100.
Seems like the more recent stock I have seen in stores are now all made in taiwan.
Be careful to check UPC code- for Taiwan or Japan.
Maxell puts a Taiwan sticker over Japan. BUT, some still show japan & ARE NOT from Japan.
Japan discs are smooth right to the spindle hole-
Taiwan ones are grooved around the spindle hole area-
Disc ID on dvd decrpyter confirms it.

Will not backup digital home videos or pictures, Read disc error or Illegal disc error message every time I tried to backup. Also had trouble with backing up data fines. Out of a spindle of 15.I tried burning at all speeds to no advile I have only had 2 record successfully. I will never buy this type of media again. I'll stick with the cheap staples brand that I have never had a problem with.

Good media for Made In Japan. However, I've had two disks that showed signs of "dye melting". Visual circular streaks in the dye can be seen after a burn.. but not before. Speed tests confirm that disk quality for these "bad" disks are not good. But the disks are still playable. So far found one "bad" disk in two packages. On a "good" disk, speed tests have good results. I still think they're high quality disks. $10 for 25pk of 8x media was a pretty good deal.

Burns at 1x, 2x, 4x and 8x using Nero 6. Flawless burns using any of the burning apps listed below. Maxell 8x and 4x -R media has been excellent over >100 burns. My first DVD-R's were a free Imation 10pack and had coaster after coaster...which prompted me to try Maxell (used their cassettes years ago) and haven't looked back.

My NEC 3500a (v. 2.18) using Nero 6 listed all writing speeds from 16X down. Burning failed to initialize at 16X, but did at 12X. The burn took 10 minutes, so even though 12X was selected, effectively a 6X burn resulted. I used an Athlon 64 3000+ laptop with the external HD containing the video on a USB 2 bus and the external burner on a PCMCIA/USB 2 bus.

using pioneer dvr-108 double layer 16x16 burner i do burn on this maxell 1-8x speed......16xthe speed!!!!it is the only disc on the market so far that can do it. it takes just under 7 minutes to burn a dvd movie.at this moment the best disc to burn on.
