A followup to my September 18, 2003 posting. I tried burning a movie at 1x speed and it failed to burn. I concur that this brand of disc sucks for movie backup. I would not want to give it a chance for data backup if they are this unreliable. Other media brands I've tried work a lot better than this one.

I bought a 10 discs that came packaged in a 'dual slim case' packaging. This means there are 10 discs, but only 5 slim jewel cases, thus 2 discs are held in each of the slim jewel cases.

These discs suck for burning. Of the 6 discs I've tried to burn (DVD-Video) 5 have resulted in being coasters. I've been burning at 2x, so maybe I'll try to burn the rest at 1x and see if it makes any improvment. Note that most of the failed burns happened less than 2 minutes into the burning cycle (quite early).

This is how it went for me . Two five packs in jewel cases burned at 2X perfect . One twenty five pack burned at 2X perfect . One ten pack one burned at 2X perfect , eight failed at 1X , still have one left . One twenty five pack that scanned at 1X so I took em' back . All from Office Max .

I was very afraid to try this out because of all the negative comments on here. I had to give it a try though because I am tired of spending so much for the media I normally use (verbatim). I bought a ten pack and the first one works. The only problem is that when it plays it will not bring up the chapter menu until I press stop, then the menu button on the remote. The color isn't quite as rich as the verbatim but I don't think most people would tell the difference (I am a bit of a perfectionist). In a cost comparason sense I would say they are worth the menu problem however I want to run through the 10 pack and see how many turn out to be coasters. That will determine whether I switch to this media. The silver tops are totally blank so I think they may be a bit different than some of the dvds that others have been using.

Media: Silver top with some wording and light dark pink on the bottom.
Purchased 10 from Micro Center @ 0.8 each (after $5 rebate)

Burned 5. 3 played back fine on my standalone JVC XV 501BK player. The other 2 had problem passing the 1 title. It took much longer to read the discs but eventually, it would play. I had to manually skip the 1st title on the one of the bad one then it would play OK. For the other bad disc, I had to wait for the player (can not even skip). Had not had time to finish the whole movie playback yet.

The same 2 bad DVD could not play back with WinDVD but played fine with CinemaCraft 2000

Not recommended. Spend a little more for Ritek media from Meritline would be a better choice.

Unable to get a successfull burn. Died 6 minutes into burn (similar to other post) at both 2x and 1x. Tried 4 different disks.

You can see the difference in write amount on the disk at the different speeds, and it was almost exactly 6 minutes into the burn.
Strange... Oh well.. Back to the more expensive Verbatim media.
