WORST media ever. Over 60% failure. Every disc seems to burn fine, but later appears as blank disc. Used 3 different burners at 2 different speeds(4x, 8x), and tried to playback on 3 different PCs and 5 different players. None would work. DO NOT BUY.

I've had a series of these FUJIFILM03s error out on me in my Pioneer drive. The discs usually spin up and error out just past the lead in. When they do burn to completion playback on my three DVD players is not an issue. Ps2 Games backed up on this media is not recommended. As playback glitches were common. Fujifilm used to use Prodisc. They were very reliable compared to these. I won't be purchasing the FUJIFILM03s again.

Burnt using DVDDecrypter. First tried at 2X but CD Speed Quality scan reported 168 PI Failures when I tested in my LiteOn DVD-ROM. Burning at 4X were much better but the FUJI PRODISCS get better burns. At 4X I got 4 PI Failures. FUJI has always been really reliable but these FUJIFILM03's might be a hit or miss. Have not checked playback reliability in my standalone DVD player.

Only had two of these to try, they scored a 93 and a 95 in Nero CD-DVD Speed. Seems okay, but not great. One of them had a visible spot in the dye, seems like they could stand to have a bit more quality control, but it didn't affect reading the disc at all. About as good as ProdiscF01, but I'd rather not use either.

Hmmm...BestBuy has the 25 pack on sale for 9.99 down from 19.99 (no rebate). Have not tried them yet but was confussed after reading all the comments. It seems that when you look at the comments from all the other Branded names that say the media is FUJIFILMO3 the general feeling is that they are GOOD. But when I read those comments that are under the FUJIFILM branded area you guys give it a "mixed" report.

Am I missing something or is my impression that if it's the same media type is it manufactured by the same company but branded for the respective labels?

Wow it seems that the namesake of the media type got the least favorable reviews.

Cheers
Ike

I'm surprised at the reviews! I have been using Fujifilm for almost 1 year. Started with the 4x and have been using the 8x ever since they came out, maybe 6months?? Out of thousands, I have had less than 10 coasters! Plays in every DVD player I have tried excpt 1 or 2! Tried more than I can remember. And for around .50 a pop, these are the most reliable I have used. I have also tried on 3 different burners with no probs. Get them from Fry's Electronics.

Tested in 8x as well as 4x burning speeds. When burning in 8x, I received a really odd error message from Nero right after burning was finished. It couldn't even start verifying the compilation!

Then I tried burning a disc in 4x, which Nero verified successfully. But, when trying to read from the disc, the PC kept freezing, as windows explorer kept crashing!

I then mounted the disc in the standalone DVD player which kept saying "Loading". Playback never began, though.

This media is 100% junk that I paid good money for at Best Buy. If you burn these at 8x, they will instant come up with errors--burning at 4x or 6x gives better results but reliability is horrible. Stay away from this media like the plague.

Comments posted by jack Fruh from United States, September 23, 2004:
Since this is a thread and I didn't get to enter the media code, let me confirm that DVD IDentifier shows the media code block to be FUJIFILM03 - This is the Fuji DVD-R media that's sold in 25 and 50 packs at Fry's and other retailers in the US. In particular mine came from a spindle of 50 and I paid $39.99-$10 rebate USD.

The media has been a letdown, (which is unfortunate, I purchased based on positive experience with some older Fuji Media that was rated at a lower speed)

It has been problematic in both my PC DVD burner/readers as well as my settop Video DVD recorder.

On the PC side, (using an emprex 1008 DVD burner (rated at 4x for dvd-r) I made a few movies with a few tools and they wouldn't play on any of my DVD players - you'd hear the head moving back and forth as the Player attempted to read, and then the player would lock up. Thinking it was an issue with older DVD players, I purchased a new DVD player that has DVD-R support and it failed in that too!

As for data, with my drive (the emprex 1008 rated at 4x for dvd-r) it would only write at 2x and then wouldn't even play back iun the same drive! (nor my pioneer DVD-104 DVD rom drive.)

So maybe "up to 8x" media is really "8x only"??? Not really sure, but I know I've wasted $40 on discs that I cannot trust.

(I have had good luck (both pc and settop) with the Fuji "for movies" DVD's that Fry's sells in a 6 pack with dvd cases, but I think those were $10 for 6,
I've also had great luck with the Panasonic dvd-r that frys sells in 10 packs (which they just lowered the price to $4.90 for 10 with cases!)

I then tried recording one in my settup Video DVD recorder (a JVC DR-M10) - that wouldn't play in regular DVD video players, though the DR-M10 would playback what it recorded.

Problems in both DVD players for video as well as DVD Rom drives for video and data.

In my PC burner (emprex 1008 - also from frys with latest 059 firmware) it only writes at 2X.
I also had a problem with my settop deck - a JVC DR-M10 - would write to the fuji 8x media, but no other players could read it.
