Sony multiregion remote hack

This worked at least in my NS900V and I've heard that it should work in other Sony DVP-series players as well.

- You need a programmable remote cotrol. Any will do as long as you can insert hex-codes in it (PDAs)
- Program individual hex-code (below) into five chosen buttons
- Put your DVD-player to standby mode (main power on and red light above it)
- Push programmed buttons sequentially from one to five (the player starts up)
- Do it again: Push programmed buttons sequentially from one to five (the player goes back to standby)

The player should now be multiregion!

Just to save you all alot of work here you can download the working .ccf file for Sony DVD Players. I used TVRemote for PocketPC to send the codes. Put the DVD Player in standbye mode and press 1 1 2 2 3 3 4 4 5 5 after these codes the player will turn on. Just repeat the same codes again, and the player will go back to standby mode.. You now have a region free Player. Enjoy!!!

Hi everyone!

I am one of those people who haven't any palm computer or a special remote but want to hack their players. After a lot of research i found the perfect solution. There (http://www.abc.se/~m1019/dvdplusrw/regionfree/) i found the ultimate and easy way to send those special codes to my player. The hardware is ultra easy to make (i used a broken remotes ir-led installed directly on serial port-no resistance needed), and the software (pronto.zip) just super. With copy-paste from the above codes (pronto style),(10 times in the raw) and on every paste, clicking the "send" button twice (20 clicks total on the "send" button). It is important to keep very sort distance between sending ir-led and player's ir-recever. It worked for me on 3 players (SONY NS900, 705, PHILIPS 723 with other codes) with no need for a second try!!!!

P.S: Use Pronto with this simple hardware, and not ProntoIrDA!!

Also to confirm, the software and .ccf file Shareman posted works a treat. It was a few minutes' work to download the software onto my Ipaq, load the codes and hack my Sony NS900, exactly as described.

Confirmed using PocketPC plus file supplied by shareman. (thanks friend). Took 1 min to install the software and file to Pocket PC, 20 seconds to unlock the player (NS900V purchased in EU).

NTSC plays back fine in colour using S-VHS output. Reports of B&W are possibly TV related, eg I have (always) to choose between one of two S-VHS "inputs" when selecting input type on my TV. One of which results in B&W and the other in colour. This is true for both my DVD player and Playstation 2 and is possibly because TV is using 4 connectors slots which are actually sharing 2 real (physical) connections to the signal decoder. Try swapping connector positions...

Paul b contacted me following my comment here (I couldn't email you for some reason). Here is my reply.

I just used the 5.4 demo version of the software, which I installed on my trusty (read old) Ipaq 3630.

I assume you have the software operating in CCF mode and Output set to the Built in transmitter and that you have loaded the CCF (well Duh!).

PC IR transmitters are low power devices, so you need to be really close - a couple of inches worked well.

I then just put the DVD into standby, stepped through the 5 functions 1-5 in turn and waited for a few seconds - the DVD went out of standby. I then ran the 5 codes again and it was done.

It took me a couple of attempts before I got it right and I had to be pretty close to the DVD with the two ports aligned.

put in DVD zone 1 -> rejected
Put in Stanby
1122334455 via the ipaq
DVD Player switches on

DVD player switches back to standby
put in DVD zone 1 -> works great !

I tried the Compaq Ipaq hack with TotalRemote and using the .ccf file listed above and it worked a treat on my DVP-NS320! The DVD played actually displayed the message SUCCESS after the update and can now play all my R1 DVDs no problem.

UPDATE!

After all that mess the 12345 hack worked for me too!
Using a Palm m515 I found out that essential is to find out the optimal distance from the IR sensor of the dvd player (not close - aproximately 2.5 meters).
The best method was for met to test each button individually (actually before appliyinng the hack) to figure out the distance and how long to push. Right after it worked like a charm (but no succes on the display).
My dvd player is a region 2 european model. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the link posted by pieter for non PDA owners.works a treat on my sony ns 700.

just download the files from the site, save on a floppy, i used a dell laptop with built in ir port, boot in to DOS (i used a windows 98 boot disk for any one that cant get into DOS), run winsamp.exe, import the file, and toggle thru the buttons ( have the player in stand by mode first).

my player worked first time, only needed to type 1 thru 5 once for it to multi region, did the rest of the sequence just to be sure, no ill effects on the player as of yet!!

I used the hack with a Sony Vaio's (IRDA port), Winsamp etc. and a Sony NS-900V. I had to try different distances between laptop and DVD player until it worked, about 1 metre worked fine, and there was no "success" message, it just switched on and off. It actually switched the Video OFF/ON button to OFF, so first I panicked and thought I had no picture any more ;-).
US disks are in B&W, need to figure that out, but only have scart connection at the moment.

Didnt have any of the above mentined equiment or the bravery to try it. So i just rented a remote thingy from www.sonycodes.co.uk. Ordered it monday got it tues and was regoion free in seconds. I applied the Shareman (see above) hack to my DVP-NS999ES DVD player (using the ccf file data and following the instructions for OmniRemote on my Palm Tungsten T3) and it successfully changed it to multiregion. However, I am using my DVP-NS999ES player in region 3 with output to a 50" PAVV (Samsung) PDP TV and the image is distorted when I play PAL format DVDs but not NTSC format DVDs. So far, I haven't been able to solve this problem.
