This hack works also with One For All URC7562 Remote Control.

PostRegion code hack posted by hobbitfeet, November 19 2004:

I've not confirmed this yet on the NS355 but it should work as the other hacks are using the same codes. I'm going to try it this weekend

I've managed to reprogram my RDR-GX3 using Psiloc total IR remote on my Sony Ericsson P900 (Compatible with: P800, P900, P910, BenQ P30, Arima)- Free trial download! (This program is also available for available for: Nokia 3650/3600, 3660/3620, 6600, 7650, Siemens SX1, Panasonic X700, Samsung SGH-D710, Motorola A1000)

Total IR remote available here: http://www.psiloc.com/index.html?action=ShowArticleItem&ida=140

I then got a Philips Pronto setup file from Remotecentral.com: http://www.remotecentral.com/cgi-bin/fi ... er&fc=

Total IR recognises this file - beam it to the phone - open the file, then select to import the codes.

Now open Total IR and select to add any device by tapping one of the buttons(I used a Sony TV setting as it has numbers on it).

Assign the buttons thus:
Tap the menu button in the bottom left corner, then tap Select Command - dismiss the dialog that pops up then tap the 1 button on the remote. Press select on the next dialog...

Here I ran into a snag - but I worked it out from the fact that I learned on another forum that button 5 should be the power button - but button 1 was power for me. SO the codes were backwards!

Assign Unnamed 5 by tapping Done.
Repeat for buttons 2-5 by assigning 4, 3, 2, 1 respectively.

Who knows, maybe for you the codes import the right way around - so if this doesn't work, try assigning code 1 to button 1.

This definitely worked on my parents-in-law's DVP-NS355 at the weekend, and it the keys were still imported backwards by the app on the phone.

Stupid me, forgot to say the obvious... You have to press the buttons 1-5 in succession. With the trial version, you may need to close/reopen the app before doing this as it only allows so many keypresses.

Hello all!

I have discovered a hidden menu for Sony dvp-ns355.
I am using remote-control RMT-D166P
I do not know if it will be of any use to make the player regionfree ?
I have just discovered this menu and have not had the time
to examine it more throughly.

There seems to be a lot of adjustable parameters.

Here it comes :

The player should be turned off - in other words Standby

1. Press the button called Top menu
2. Press the button called Clear
3. Press the button called Power - It is in fact a symbol
for turning the player on/off

Wait for a couple of seconds!!

A menu should appear

I do not know if this might help ?

Maybe another wiser person - should be able to help ?

Yours sincerly

Jan, Copenhagen

I've just bought mine and even though it says region 2 on the back it will play my region 4 and region 1 dvds.

So before you worry about hacking it, test it first !

HI
I rented a special remote from www.sonycodes.co.uk . All my non region 2 films play perfectly in colour. Only 19.99 inc postage. It was really easy and quick, definatly worth the money.

Hi, I hacked my Sony DVP-NS 355 with a One For All(For Google: One4All) URC 7740. It works as reed posted. But you have to add "00" before the codes at steps 4-8. It's because you can reprogramm with the code "994" all buttons (except magic, tv, dvd, sat and vcr). After pressing 994 and the magic-button shortly you have to press the code for the function and then the button you want to be used with the new function. For example: You want to reprogramm the button number 1 with the functioncode 00189. So you have to press:

1. Hold Magic until the LED flashes twice.
2. Press "994"
3. Press Magic just once
4. Press 00189 for the code
5. Press 1 for the Button you want to reprogramm.

After pressing 1 the LED should flash twice :) So it's "001891" for the hole code, as you see.

I hope you can understand my crapy English and I could help you.

If the Screen flashes or is black/white it DOES NOT depend on the countrycode of the Disc! Maybe you have to change Scart-Port at you TV (against flashing) or you have to switch from S-Video or Video to RGB in the Screen-->Line-menu. On my TV it was both, I had to change ;)

Greetings from Germany,

R. Schmitt

I hacked my player last night using the all for one remote urc7740 the same way Rudi Schmitt did and can confirm worked first time you can get the remote from currys. the gray areas about standby and wlecome screen are standby you need to turn it off and the welcome screen is normal disc in the player but not playing hope this helps

PostRegion code hack posted by MADHunter, April 21 2005:

Rudi Schmitt you are my hero. The hack does work as Reed said but only if you use the One For All URC7740 and follow Rudi's slightly different instructions. I should know as I've tried both at the expense of 2 remote controls. (God bless Ebay as well)

Cheers Rudi.

You can also use WinCESoft's IrDA RemoteControl II v1.18 which supports CCF codes. Install it on your palmtop and create a new IR database entry with five buttons. Each button will have each own hexadecimal value. Here they are (in the order you should press them):

Can I use original remote?

PostRegion code hack posted by Josef K, November 04 2017:

I'm coming to this quite late (Scart connected players are out of date now as TVs increasingly don't have Scart connectors)
but this hack did work for me. I did it using a URC 7040 (yes- that's a 7040, not a 7740) that i got from Ebay.

Using the URC 7040, I didn't need to put in zero, zero as Schmidt had suggested. When you put in 1,8,9, then 1 for example,
the remote automatically gives a little flash after the 9 and before you then put the '1' in. If you use 0,0 first, it flashes before
you finish putting in 1,8,9 and I don't think the coding works.

There are lots of steps and button presses to follow to get this right and I missed bits the first time and had to start again.
when i did get it right, I pressed 1,2,3,4,5 and the word 'SUCCESS' came up on the player.

Josef
