This is for macrovision, but should allow you to change region at will:

Introduction

The DVD Upgrade is an advanced modification to your DVD player, which adds extra features and enables you to get more from your machine. The upgrade supplements the DVD player and in no way harms the playback quality or removes any performance features of the machine.

Players Supported

The following DVD players are supported by this version of the DVD Upgrade:

 Sony DAV-C700
 Sony DAV-S400
 Sony DAV-S500
 Sony DAV-S800
 Sony CMT-S9D

Macrovision & CGMS disable

All DVD players have a system called Macrovision built in to the player, which is designed to stop the copying of DVD discs to video. However, this system can have adverse affects on some projectors. For this reason the DVD MOD Upgrade disables Macrovision to solve any problems.

User manual

Put your player into „Standby“ Mode and enter one of the following commands if necessary:

Remote control command Function
[0] [ENTER] Default Default region code on the player
[1] [ENTER] Region 1
[2] [ENTER] Region 2
[3] [ENTER] Region 3
[4] [ENTER] Region 4
[5] [ENTER] Region 5
[6] [ENTER] Region 6
[7] [ENTER] Region 7
[8] [ENTER] Region 8
[Arrow down] [ENTER] Only play DVDs with the selected region; auto switching OFF
[Arrow up] [ENTER] Default Auto switching ON
[PREV I<<] [ENTER] Enable video interference impulses (Macrovision ON)
[NEXT >>I] [ENTER] Default Disable video interference impulses (Macrovision OFF)
[Arrow left] [ENTER] Enable user operation prohibitions* and access restrictions
[Arrow right] [ENTER] Default Disable user operation prohibitions* and access restrictions

* The DVD can no longer prohibit you from using the fast-forward, chapter change or Audio-/Subtitle-/Angle switch. You can no longer be forced to watch intros. Just press [TITLE] or [DVD MENU] and select PLAY.

I can confirm that my Region2 DAV-S800 has been made multiregion by using the same hack as the one for the DAV-S880 and DAV-S888

See the copied instructions below:

This guide shows you how to make the update with a regular PC equipped with an IRDA port.

1. Download the winsamp -package http://www.veg.nildram.co.uk/remote13.zip

This innovative piece of software allows you to send standard home electronics IR signals using a PC IRDA port.

2. Extract the package onto a bootable DOS floppy disk.

3. Download this IR code file and place it in the same directory as the package above.

This file holds the five necessary IR codes converted to the format used by winsamp.exe.
http://www.selen.org/files/REMOTE.TXT

4. Boot up your PC from the floppy disk and run winsamp.exe.

If your IRDA port doesn't appear as COM2 you may override this by using an appropriate command line switch. For example, use COM1 by running 'winsamp C1'.

5. Press the 'r' key to load up the codes into winsamp.

6. Turn on the Player.

7. hold down "Display" "Stop" and "Prev" keys ("Mecha Lock" should appear), and while keeping them pressed turn the volume knob to the right. Service IN mode should appear.

8. Make sure your DVD player is in Service IN mode and your IRDA port is within range.

9. Run the IR codes from 1 to 5 by pressing Enter on each corresponding button.

10. Your DVD player should now display "DATA RESET".

11. Press the standby button on the player remote.

12. Plug it out for 5-10 seconds.

13. Start it again, and play your region 1 ect. discs !!

I also have a few notes to add:

1- I built and used the cheap IR transmit circuit detailed in http://www.veg.nildram.co.uk/remfaq.htm. Being lazy, i firstly I tried using the winsamp software in an XP Dos window but this did not work, a Win98 dos boot disk worked for me.

2- It took me a few attempts to get the hack to work, during one of the early attemts a 'Locked' message appeared on the DVD's display and the DVD tray would not eject (what a sinking feeling). I eventually figured out that this is a feature that can be toggled on & off by pressing and 'Prev' & 'Display' buttons in the dvd together.

3- You can check that the Ir commands are being received by the DVD, by looking at the SYSCON menu screen, there is small line directly below the number 6 on the last menu option, this will flash when a signal is being received.

4-As this hack worked with my laptop it should more than likely work with the Palm PDA variants of the hack.

Good Luck

I've managed to reprogram my brother in Law's DAV-S800 using Psiloc total IR remote on my Sony Ericsson P910 - Free trial download! This program is also available for Nokia Series 60 phones!

Total IR remote available here: http://www.psiloc.com/?id=prod&nrp=97

I then got a Philips Pronto setup file from Remotecentral.com:
http://www.remotecentral.com/cgi-bin/fi ... er&fc=

Total IR recognises this file - beam it to the phone, or put it on a memory stick - open the file, then select to import the codes.

Now open Total IR and select any device (I used a Sony TV setting as it has numbers on it).

Assign the buttons thus:
Tap the menu button in the bottom left corner, then tap Select Command - dismiss the dialog then tap the 1 button on the remote. Press select on the next dialog...

Here I ran into a snag - but I worked it out from the fact that I learned here that button 5 should be the power button - but button 1 was power for me. So the codes were backwards!

Assign Unnamed 5 by tapping Done.
Repeat for buttons 2-5 by assigning 4, 3, 2, 1 respectively.

Who knows, maybe for you the codes import the right way around - so if this doesn't work, try assigning code 1 to button 1.

When the ir Remote is set up, just follow the instructions from above...

13. Start it again, and play your region 1 ect. discs !!
