********NOTICE********

I'm not responsible for the damage/malfunction to your DVD player for using the below listed hack, use it at your own risk and be prepare that the unit may not work properly after the modification on the unit.

I tried at my risk of damaging the DVD player but it works.

Hacks for DVD-HD950 (Region 1)

This required the connection the unit thru it's composite or component output (not HDMI) to TV.

1. HDCP-Free: Requires only DVD Remote.
2. Power On DVD player, wait until "no disk" display
3. Press "Angle"
4. then number on the remote "4", "3", "2", "7"
5. TV Screen displays "HDCP Free"
6. Press "Angle" to turn off the "HDCP Free" display
7. Try 1 more time from step 1-6 (HDCP Free will display)

Removing the HDCP also turn the DVD-HD950 into region free player, I tried the repeat + code trick...it doesn't work, then I tried the Angle + code and the TV screen shown "HDCP Free". I put in a Region 3 disc...it play, swap region 1 disc...it play too, owesome!

Also...turn off HDCP will enable you to use the component with adjustable resolution to it's capabiltiy (480P, 720P, 768P & 1080i), to further utilized highest resolution with my Samsung HPR-4252 plasma TV, I connected the DVD-HD950 thru it's HDMI output to the plasma TV, it works as well as the components connection except the HDMI produce much more vivid color.

I purchased this player thru Dell.Inc for $229 in early June, try to find coupons code from the web and it may sometimes discounted to 10-25% off + free shipping. I got this unit in 2 business day no shipping from Dell.

The player does not have DCDI logo as shown on the DVD-HD 941, the picture quality is good...can't compare to HD broadcast from Direct TV or cable, but it's almost there.

By switching the resolution from 480p to 720P, 1080i not a big different but only gain better details at 720p or 1080i, for folks that have HDTV this is must have in order to fully utilized the 1080i or 720p resolution format.

I am not sure the Macrovision still enable or not since I am not planning making any dub to other sources.

Have fun and good luck in hacking business.

The same procedure I had posted for the Samsung DVD-HD745 & DVD-HD945 in the past, also works on my new DVD-HD950 (Region 2 player bought in Greece):

http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks.php?select=Samsung+DVD-HD945

On all three players, the hack also unlocks the component progressive-scan output, so that it can upscale to 720p and 1080i, just like the DVI/HDMI outputs do.

On the DVD-HD945 thread, a user also reported that the above region-free hack for Region 2 players also removes HDCP protection, but I cannot verify this as my projector is HDCP-compliant anyway. The other HDCP procedure (reported for Region 1 DVD-HD950 players bought in the USA) with use of Angle button does not work on my Region 2 device.

This is the way to get a Samsung HD950 region free.
The other hack on here for the HD950 did not work for me so I tried this one that I found for the HD850 and It worked for me!

1. Turn on the Player with no disc on the tray. The tv screen and the dvd lcd will display "No Disk"

2. Press the "Repeat" key on the Samsung remote control

3. Press the keys: "5 7 5 3 8" on the remote. A number must appear n the screen. That is your player's current region.

4. Prss the number for the region you want to use next ( 1 , 2 , etc). If you want your dvd player to be unlocked for all the regions press "9". A number should appear in the screen.

5. Press the "Open/close" button in the remote. The tray will open. Leave it open for a few seconds.

6. Just press the "On/off" button in the remote.

7. Congratulations: You now have a multi-region dvd player

This also enables High Definition using the Component connection.

My HD950 was bought from HK; in the early beginning, it was region free player, but I don't know why it changed to region 3 player a few months later. It doesn't work with "57538" code, maybe it is a region 3 player.... Finally, I got the workable code from the message posted by Sam regarding HD850 as follows:

http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks.php?select=Samsung+DVD-HD850

Here is the hack for all region's players. It changes regions and unlocks the ability to use Hi-Def modes (720p,1080i etc) through Component connections - some regions ship with this disabled!

Power on player with no disc in tray.

1. Press the Repeat button on your remote control
Don't confuse with the Repeat A-B button

2.If your player was purchased in Region 1:
Press the buttons 2, 9, 3, 3 and 4 on your remote control, in order one at a time
If it was purchased in Region 2:
Press the buttons 5, 7, 5, 3 and 8 on your remote control, in order one at a time
For Region 3 players:
Press the buttons 5, 6, 7, 3 and 2 on your remote control, in order one at a time
For Region 4 players:
Press the buttons 7, 6, 8, 8 and 4 on your remote control, in order one at a time
For Region 5 players:
Press the buttons 5, 3, 8, 1 and 4 on your remote control, in order one at a time
For Region 6 players:
Press the buttons 2, 4, 4, 6 and 2 on your remote control, in order one at a time

3. The numbers 01 or similar current region code will be displayed on the top left of your onscreen display

4. Press the 1 button on your remote control for region 1, 2 for region 2, and so on, or 9 for multi-region playback
NB: The above step may be time sensitive and need to be performed quickly

5. Open your DISC tray and leave open for 15 secs.

6. After 15 seconds have elapsed, power off your player and the DISC tray will be closed and player shut off.

7. Power on player and it is now set to the new region code you chose in step 4 above

Got this at Amazon.com in 12/2005. Region 1.

Just crack the HDCP-Free and REGION FREE will come with that!

To crack the HDCP-Free, follow the instuction posted by nedear88.

Extremely easy.

I am in the UK(Region 2) and have just got myself the Samsung DVD-HD950 from Richer Sounds.
The multi-region hack worked first time, by the usual "repeat", "57538", then "9" for all regions, "Open Tray", wait 5 seconds, then "power off".
The problem that I had was that I couldn't seem to get the HDCP hack to work,I have eventually got the solution from elsewhere.I thought this should be the place to place the complete solution, as it's the place people will come to to look for it.

Turn the player "On"(tray closed) - "No Disc" in top left hand corner of your TV

Press the "Angle" button - Prohibited sign in top right hand corner of your TV

Press "4" , "3" , "2" , "7"

Press the "Angle" button - Prohibited sign in top right hand corner of your TV

The hack has worked , BUT, and this is where I went wrong, you can't adjust the output resolution via the menu screen(this is the bit that drove me insane).
The way to adjust the resolution is simple, all you have to do is press the "HDMI SEL." key, and the resolutions come up on your TV screen.
There is one BIG thing that you CANNOT do though -

YOU CAN'T USE THE HDCP HACK WITH THE "COMPONENT I" SELECTION IN THE DISPLAY SETTINGS.IT CAN ONLY BE USED WITH THE COMPONENT P / HDMI DISPALY SETTING.

If you have any questions, list them below.

The region hack on my newly purchased Samsung HD950 R2 worked first time round using the the repeat and appropriate number sequence.

However, the newer version of this player no longer allows the HDCP to be disabled, using the angle and number sequence routine. This was tested with all possible video connections (composite / component i / component p /hdmi), all to no avail, and also with the open and close tray trick to activate mod.

So all future HD950 purchasers, beware, it seems that Samsung has wised up. Maybe there is another workaround available?

Cheers,

Like Michael above, i bougut a new unit 850 - region 1today (Feb 21, 2006), and tried the various procedures - Angle+code, Repeat+code, etc. It does not seem to work anymore. I am not able to enter all the numbers at the same time. For eg - the angle/4327 code - i press angle, then 4327 - but screen only shows the 43, and I have to enter the 27 on the folowing screen. Anyay, nothing happens with these codes anymore. Cheers.

PostRegion code hack posted by Michael Deseck, February 23 2006:

Can indeed confirm the above.

All 2006 models no longer have the HDCP disable feature in the firmware.

However, as reported earlier on R2 models the regionfree hack still works flawlessly.

Michael

I bought my HD950 in the middle of mars 2006 in Europe and the hack posted by Bryan Powell, September 28 2005 worked just fine for region code hack (hack repeated below)

2. Press the "Repeat" key on the Samsung remote control

3. Press the keys: "5 7 5 3 8" on the remote. A number must appear n the screen. That is your player's current region.

5. Press the "Open/close" button in the remote. The tray will open. Leave it open for a few seconds.

6. Just press the "On/off" button in the remote.

Hi.
If you can't get the hdcp-free hack working go to
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ZoranDVD/ and download the firmware for region 5 dvd hd950 and flash it.
If your player is from other regions, ask and the mods there will help you.
After the flash simply apply the region hack and you'll be rid of the hdcp protection.
Tested and working on a region 2 player with version 112905.03.HNACXL2XEL.

Good luck.

PostRegion code posted by Kalle, March 21 2006:

I can can confirm that the firmware hack works. Just remember that you need to use the region 5 region free hack and it also removes the hdcp.

PostRegion code hack posted by G1ngerNinja, April 05 2006:

Further to Jorge Moreira post, I can confirm the Region 5 Firmware change for
a Region 2 player does work with a 2006 112905.03.HNACXSL2EXL player.

However what I had to do for the HD over Component (HDCP Off) was this:-

1. Load Region 5 Firmware Change (Making sure it shutdowns itself ! )
2. Press Repeat
3. Type 53814 (This displays current region code of 5)
4. Enter required region code 1-9 (9 being All)
5. Press Repeat Again (the screen will go blank and back again
6. Now by pressing the HDMI Sel. Button allows you to change resolution to
HD.
7. Open Tray for 15secs
8. Power Off

Not sure if 7&8 are required but doesn't do any harm.

Hope this helps people out who like me had trouble.

Cheers

PostRegion code posted by G1ngerNinja, April 08 2006:

As an update to my previous post, turns out that this downgrade of Firmware
not only disables HDCP over component, but also over HDMI-DVI.

To get it to work on a Region 2 player you need to set the player to NTSC
otherwise you will get a message saying not supported.

Well thats what I got anyway, and this makes perfect sense, since DVI
operates at 60Hz not 50Hz as with PAL.

Hope this helps people out.

Hi all,
got it flashed with the Region5 firmware downgrade, but I'm still not able to enter the "Repeat & 5 digits" code. I still only have 2 digits displayed like with 29112005.03....XEL firmware when I enter the code.

Didn't it flash correctly or is it because I have it connected via HDMI? It's set to NTSC by default in the dvd-player setup.

I just bought a Region 1 DVD-HD950 from Best Buy ($267.44 with tax), came home, and used nedear88's hack (the first one), and it worked beautifully! HDCP free, but I have still yet to test region-free as I just ordered my first Region 2 discs from www.xploitedcinema.com, which has a ton of great films (I bought Win Wender's 280 min. cut of Until the End of the World). Can't wait to try it out - the upconversion looks pretty darn good for a $250 player. Now I have an entire collection of DVDs to re-watch in Hi-Def! Thanks!!!

BTW, I used the hack, switched to HDMI/Component output, and used the HDMI Select button on the remote to switch to 1080i.

PostRegion code hack posted by Dermot, April 14 2006:

I just Purchased the Samsung HD950 and none of the listed hacks work. I guess it is region one from here on in unless someone has a new hack. It was $165.00 from Amazon.com BTW.

PostRegion code hack posted by Dermot, April 15 2006:

To show your firware version press the "prog" button on your remote. My version is 122105.01.HNACXSL2XAA. What's strange is some people seem to be able to hack this version.

PostRegion code posted by Steve, April 15 2006:

My firmware version is 042505.00.HNACXSL2XAA, and was hackable using the first hack listed for HDCP.

PostRegion code hack posted by Frank, June 08 2006:

Region 5 firmware downgrade + Region code hack worked on my 2006 Region 2 HD950 with firmware 112905.03.HNACXSL2EXL.

Region Free
HDCP disabled
720p 768p 1080i upscaling enabled on HDMI and Component

BTW, I have black (or flashing) screen on Component with 720p and 1080i (480p, 576p and 768p ok) upscaling playing most (not all) of my original dvds (copies are ok).
All is fine with upscaling and original dvds on HDMI/DVI.
I don't know why (Macrovision?)

I have a pre 2006 HD-950 and the 4327 code works inasmuch as it says HDCP FREE, but when I put a disk in it still doesn't play. I am running a composite connection (the old red, yellow white jacks).

PostRegion code hack posted by egallobr, April 21 2008:

I bought my HD950 in June, 2007 in the US. I live in Brazil (region 4). The DVD firmware is 122105.01.HNACXSL2XAA (you can get it pressing the PROG key on the remote).
The hacks published here and another one at the AVForums.com did not work.
Any clue how to make the HD950 region free. I just need the player to play regions 1 and 4.
