Hello all,
the HD 841 hack using philips universal remote control posted by H. Cho, on April 22 2005 works also for HD850, here is the hack with my additions. I used Philips PM725S universal consolidator (well, it is a remote control but with an odd name :-), costs $19.99 at frys)
- have your dvd output in composit (did not test it with other output setups)
- From philips universal remote controller, program your remote controller with the code 786 (Audio, AIWA), I programmed the AUX button

Hack
1. open dvd tray

2. press "info/select" button then "Servo adjustment complete" message will be shown on the display

3. press "9", then all LCD segment on your DVD will light up

4. press "9" again, now the LCD shows "open"

4. close the tray

That's it. Enjoy Region free DVD

If you want see the region code, press "quit" button, then it will show you the region code BUT NOTE THAT IT WILL RESET THE REGION CODE 9 BACK TO WHERE YOU STARTED (in my case 1). It says that it performed some sort of cold start. So you have to start from hack step 1 again.

Hi,
I used the Samsung DVD-HD841 hack posted by ((Cinemasound)) on April 14 2005 on my band new DVD-HD850 I bought in Canada in Future Shop:
I bought an Aiwa audio remote (RC-T501) from scintrigue on Ebay (see Sean's store: http://stores.ebay.com/Discount-Remotes)
Then performed hack by ((Cinemasound)):

1)Open the disc deck. DON'T CLOSE!

Using the AIWA remote control:

2) Press Repeat (DVD player's display will be totally light.)
3) Press Program.
4) Press Clock - and the display will show the word "ADJUST".

At this time using the DVD remote control:

5)At this time using the DVD remote control press 9.

It works!!!
My DVD now playes region 1 and region 2 DVD's.

PostRegion code hack posted by NP, June 28 2005:

THIS WORKED FOR A REGION 2 DISK

1. Turn on the Player with no disc on the tray. The tv screen and the dvd lcd will display "No Disk"

2. Press the "Repeat" key on the Samsung remote control

3. Press the keys: "5 7 5 3 8" on the remote. A number must appear n the screen. That is your player's current region.

4. Prss the number for the region you want to use next ( 1 , 2 , etc). If you want your dvd player to be unlocked for all the regions press "9". A number should appear in the screen.

5. Press the "Open/close" button in the remote. The tray will open. Leave it open for a few seconds.

6. Just press the "On/off" button in the remote.

7. Congratulations: You now have a multi-region dvd player

PostRegion code hack posted by Madkoifish, July 26 2005:

The HDCP Free code works rest dont do anything on a US version (r1) of this player. Closest I get is when you press open tray it will either say open, then automaticly say loading or open the tray about a inch then suck back in. I place a r2 dvd in and still get region blocked.
This really makes me wonder if 90% of these posts are bogus zitfaced brats posting BS or some git in another region posing thier hacks without notification of such. Either way none of the "region" key hacks work without spending $$ on some other universal remote. At this point I dont really want to blow $$ on the remote since I dont even know if it is a working solution!!

PostRegion code hack posted by Rich.C in the UK, August 03 2005:

Yep the above code hack 57538 from NP is the one to use if you got your self a Samsung HD850/950 from Europe (R2). I've just applied this hack to the Samsung HD950!! and it worked first time and so i'm totally region free aswell. Ha Ha!!!!!!

PostRegion code hack posted by Sture, August 06 2005:

I can also confirm that the region hack above by NP from June 28 is working on a HD-850 purchased in Sweden one week ago. I have tested and can confirm both region 1 and 2 works now (I have set the player to 9 for totally region free).

PostRegion code hack posted by stereocentral, August 13 2005:

I can verify that the very first hack on this page works for the Samsung DVD-HD841. Mine is a Region 1 machine purchased in July of 2004.

I bought a Philips PMDVD6T universal remote for $15, programmed the AUX input for Aiwa audio (code 786). I then pressed "INFO" on the Philips, pressed "9" twice on the Samsung DVD remote and then the region coding was completely gone.

It really works!

Samsung DVD-HD850 Region Code Crack
Use the supplied DVD player remote p/n 00038A
Remove any disc from the player
Read the message NO DISC
Press REPEAT button
Press 76884789
Open the tray and insert a different region code disc
( I used a zone 1 disc in my zone 4 player)
Press play
The player becomes multi region and has played zones1,2,3,4 discs.

Works fine 21/6/05

PostRegion code hack posted by MadKoifish, August 15 2005:

HD850 US version R1 locked

Used a philips PMDVR8 similar to the one posted earlier
I selected the audio then applied the aiwa code 786

I only needed to turn on the player let it display the no disc then used the philips remote set to audio

1)) Press display,

The player will display adjust in the lcd. It will then open the tray

2))press 9 on the philips remote

The lcd display will completely light (all segments light up)

3)) Press 9 again on the philips
Then go about playing other region dvds or turn the unit off.

This has been tested with composite, Svid I cannot test dvi, HDMI or composite since my tv is still on backorder. I havent tested for macro cause Im too lazy to go behind the cabinet and dig out a working vcr.

Pretty much any uni remote than can program aiwa audio codes will work, its just finding which button will affect what you want.
Reason the samsung remote trick will not work on this unit is the firmwares, possibly hardware ( I doubt this.) What would be nice is if someone can hack the UK or pal firmwares and make it avalible. The US version doesnt have DIVX (mpeg4) abilities and possibly a few other features. This is mostlikely due to MPAA being little whiners about mpeg4 content.
Either way Im happy I can watch my expensive r2s on this which is far better sound and picture compared to my philips 645. AND one less component taking up space in the cabinet!!

Following worked for Samsung DVD-HD850 region 5 (!) player:
1. turn dvd on w/remote, no disk inserted (message "no disc" appears on tv screen)
2. press "repeat" key (bottom-right) on remote ("no disk" message disappears)
3. type in number "53814" (yellow number "5" appears on tv)
4. type "9" for 'region free' (yellow number "9" on tv)
5. press "open disk" on remote (nothing on screen)
6. press "on/off" on dvd player ("goodbye" on dvd screen;)

Thanks to Ert in "Samsung DVD-HD945" thread for REGION5 code!! :D

PostRegion code hack posted by Chiperub, August 17 2005:

I can confirm MadKoifish posted August 15 2005 works for HD850 Region 1. I used a Phillips Magnavox PN725S Universal 7 Remote Control that I bought on Amazon for $4 (four!) and was delivered two days later. It worked using code 786 that I programmed into the CD key. I had to use the "info/select" key rather then "display". Thanks to all you boffins out there that crack these things.

PostOther hack posted by Steve, August 21 2005:

I was able to successfully apply the HDCP-free hack on an HD 850 purchased two weeks ago. I followed these steps:

a. Power On DVD player, no disk inserted
b. Press "Angle" (forbidden sign appears)
c. Press "4", "3", "2", "7"
d. Press "Angle"
f. Open and close DVD drawer
e. TV Screen does not display "HDCP Free" but HDCP has been disabled.

I attempted these steps multiple times, but not until I opened and closed the DVD drawer did they work. I read in another forum that this "engages" the new setting.

In USA, at least for me, "57538" hack with Samsung remote don't work. Here's what did. Buy Phillips universal remote from Walmart ($7.96- gotta love that!)
Program Aiwa code 786 into remote.
Press info on the Ph. remote & press 9 twice on Samsung remote; I don't even think that was necessary. Disk tray opened after pressing info. Anyway, use the hack(s) listed here for Aiwa/Phillips, and it works. Region unlimited in the USA baby!

PostRegion code hack posted by Mischa, August 27 2005:

Confirmed region hack for Samsung DVD-HD850 purchased in US (region 1), all functions including HDMI work! I followed the advice from MadKoifish and Chiperub to purchase the Philips Universal remote at Amazon.com for $4 (plus approx $6 shipping), program the CD button to code 786, remove disk from player and close drawer to display 'no disk', press info/select on remote, player displays 'adjust', press 9, display lights up, press 9 to set region code to 9 (all) and you're done. We only have region 1 and 2 disks, but they work great with all outputs. Thank you all!

Tried the region code hack with the remote from my 5 year old Aiwa XR-M7 Stereo.

Turned on DVD player (no DVD inserted)
Hit "Clock" on the remote (LCD says "adjust", screen says "Servo adjusted")
Hit "9" on DVD remote twice
Hit power button on DVD remote

There are other buttons that performed other functions:
"Mono/Tuner" button brings out a color test screen
"sleep" button performs a cold start and display system info

I bought this player in SWITZERLAND (code 2). I confirm that the following hack posted by NP on June 28, 2005 DOES WORK.

1. Turn on the Player with no disc on the tray. The tv screen and the dvd lcd will display "No Disk"

2. Press the "Repeat" key on the Samsung remote control

3. Press the keys: "5 7 5 3 8" on the remote. A number must appear on the screen (mine was 2). That is your player's current region.

4. Press the number for the region you want to use next (1 , 2 , etc).

PostRegion code hack posted by Sam, September 28 2005:

I am from New Zealand. We are Region 4 Pal.

I can confirm that this Region hack worked:

Use the supplied DVD player remote p/n 00038A
Remove any disc from the player
Read the message NO DISC
Press REPEAT button – don’t confuse with the REPEAT A-B button
Press 76884
Press 9 for Multizone
Open and Close DVD drawer to SET

Some people say that the above hack also disables the HDCP protection. I am unsure if this is the case because I only read that AFTER doing the following to remove the HDCP:

Disable HDCP protection

HDCP-Free: Requires only Samsung DVD Remote.
Power On DVD player, no disk inserted
Press "Angle" – Forbidden sign appears
Press "4327"
Press "Angle"
Open and Close DVD drawer to SET it.
Some guides say it will display something like "HDCP removed". This is NOT the case.

Sorry for this not being totally clear. But the above did work and I now have a region/HDCP free player.

So just try the region hack first. If it gets rid of HDCP too, then great. If not use the HDCP hack too.

My Samsung now lets me use all the resolutions and looks fantastic!

3. The numbers 01 or similar current region code will be displayed on the top left of your onscreen display

4. Press the 1 button on your remote control for region 1, 2 for region 2, and so on, or 9 for multi-region playback
NB: The above step may be time sensitive and need to be performed quickly

6. After 15 seconds have elapsed, power off your player and the DISC tray will be closed and player shut off.

7. Power on player and it is now set to the new region code you chose in step 4 above

I bought a HD 850 Region 1 in the US. None of the codes supplied in this forum worked for regionhack. The hack for HDCP free works fine.

I can verify that the regionhack using the Philips universal remote WORKS on the Region 1 models. Just buy yourself the Philips PMDVR8, got mine at Circuit City for 24.95 $.

Program it with the Aiwa audiocode 786 then press the display button, tray will open press 9 two times. The player works for R1 and R2 discs. Have not tried any others. (circuit city do have a 30 day full return policy).

I have bought this DVD player in France, set to zone 2.
I have tried the hack by Nico (written above in french), and thank him because it works fine. No need for a specific remote control. The remoted shipped with the player works OK. So I recap the steps:

1)Put the device on with no disk inside. Be sure it displays "No disc"
2) On the remote type REPEAT 57538. The present code (for instance 2) should display on the TV screen.
3)Type the new code on the remote, for instance 9 (for multizone).
4)Open/Close the drawer
5)Put Off the power and then when you put it On again, the new code will be available.

2. Power up DVD player, with no disk inserted
3. Press "Angle"
4. Press "4", "3", "2", "7"
5. Press "Angle" again

The only hack that worked to make region free was using the aiwa remote code 786 on Phillips universal remote Model PD6SS (6 in 1 Learning Remote). I purchased the the remote at walmart in canada for less than 15$.
1- programmed remote code in on CBL/AUX button (code 786)
2- Pressed Info, disk tray opened and said "Servo adjust complete"
3- pressed the 9 key twice
4- close the Tray
5- all done

I am now able to output more resoulution than 480p thru component, I can use 480P,720P,768P and 1080i.

I can confirm that the following HDCP and Region-Free hacks work for Region 1 players and that none of the Samsung remote region-free hacks listed on this page worked for my Region 1 player.

HDCP Hack:

Use the included Samsung remote control.

1) Turn on your DVD player with no disc inserted.
2) Press "Angle"
3) Press the following numbers "4 - 3 - 2 - 7" in the order listed
4) Press "Angle" again. The screen will now display HDCP-Free up in the top right corner.

Region Free Hack:

Use Philips universal remote (I bought the P725S at Best Buy for $19.99CDN).

Product Link: http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logo ... amp;catid=

Remember, most store return policies will allow you to return your remote if you don't want to keep it after this literally 10 second task. I'll let you decide the reason you want to tell them :)

1) Program the remote code for a device (I used DVD). For my remote it was: Hold "Code Search" until remote LED stays lit -> Push "DVD" -> Enter code "7-8-6"
2)Press the "Info/Select". The disc tray will open and the screen will say "Servo adjusted" while the LCD says "adjust".
3) Press "9" (LCD lights up) and then "9" again.
4) Close the tray.
5) Power off, power on.

There is a JP1 remote control file at http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload.php?action=file&file_id=2660
that contains the codes for both "servo adjust" and "color test".

The EFC codes for those two are 078 and 080.

I don't have any non-region 1 discs, so I can't tell if the region hack worked, but when I activate the servo adjust code, the screen shows "adjust" and the drawer opens.

Maybe someone else can verify the hack.

I was very skeptical about this "hack" info but...
I purchased a Philips PM3ST 3 device universal control at Target for $8 and did what Sippeus did. I programmed the vcr/dvd button to 786.

1. Open draw
2. Press info/select. TV reads 'Servo adjustment complete'.
3. Press 9 two times with the Philips remote
4. Close tray and 'Badoom'! Region free.
I immediately played a region 2 movie that only minutes before would not play.
I purchased the Samsung HD-850 from Tigerdirect and received it on 9/18/06. The price after rebate is $30. Just Great!

Recently purchased from TigerDirect the HD-850, and then to Target to find Philips remote to make the unit region free. My Target does not carry the Philips remote, so I purchased a GE Universal Remote for 6 devices Model 84918, UPC 3087884918, $11.

Follow the code setting procedure in the manual for an AUDIO device with code 851 (this is one of the codes listed for the AIWA under the AUDIO listings). Then...

1. Open Tray
2. Press the "Display/Info" button on the GE Remote, and the on-screen-display (OSD) will show "Servo adjustment complete"
3. Now Press "9" twice on the GE Remote
4. Close Tray

Unit is now region free.

I also applied the hack that enables analog component output, aka HDCP-free. This hack uses the Samsung HD-850 remote. Repeated here for clarity.

1. Power "ON" - "no disk" showing on display
2. Press "Angle" on the Samsung remote
3. Press "4 3 2 7"
4. Press "Angle" again - OSD will show "HDCP Free" confirming the changes.

Remove any disc from the player
Read the message NO DISC
Press REPEAT button – don’t confuse with the REPEAT A-B button
Press 76884
Press 9 for Multizone
